Re: Out of Character Posts I

Ok,

Here's my take on items that we don't have but I think we may want.

9 PASGT HELMET (We have the vests, but I think we missed the helmets.)

Why don't we include a complete vehicle loadout....
There are a few items in here that we already have and can ignore the duplicates.  And we have several items that are not on this list that we need, but combining Jimmy's list with this and adding our individual items should get us in pretty good shape.

1. Basic – common to all vehicle types.
 (Weight 140.1kg with M3 tripod, 126.5kg with
M122 tripod, less 3kg with PhostrEx extinguishers)
Tools: Shovel (3kg), pick (3kg), axe (3kg), sledgehammer
(5kg), machete (2kg), one pair bolt cutters (2kg),
vehicle tool kit containing spanners, wrenches,
sockets and a jack (10kg). Tripod (M122 (6.35kg) or
M3 .50 caliber (20kg)).

Camouflage/shade net (7x7m) with poles, stakes and
guy ropes (4kg), M83 solar power unit (3kg, after
1987).

Safety equipment, cables and ropes: 20m Tow Chain
(10kg), three Halon or PhostrEx (after 2014) fire
extinguishers (2kg or 1kg each for PhostrEx), 50m
11mm nylon rope in bag (5kg), Large medkit (5kg),
two pairs dust goggles with interchangeable lenses
(clear, amber, polarizing tinted, total 0.2kg)

Communications and sensors: AutoNav vehicle navigation
system (17kg), two AN/PRC-70 radios (17.7kg
each), one radio direction finder (4kg), one set of
CP-7 binoculars (1.7kg), two pairs AN/PVS-5 night
vision goggles (0.8kg).

2. Team supplies - The following is issued per six people
(114kg): Two ration packs (17kg each), one camp
kit (21kg), one utility box (20kg), 1 trade pack
(15kg each), 1 Mountain Kit (12.83kg).

One Recon team load: (weight 277.66 kg)

• Four M1 Rocket flares (.4kg each)
• One M79 grenade launcher & standard load of 36
40mm grenades in vest (13.04kg)
• Four Armbrust 300s (6.3kg each)
• M21 Sniper Rifle with 12 Magazines, Suppressor (13.46kg)
• One case 9x19mm ammunition (2880 rds, 52.16 kg)
• One case 5.56x45mm Ball (1640 rds, 31.5kg)
• One case 7.62x51mm Ball (920 rds, 31.29kg)
• One case 12 ga Magnum 00 buckshot (500 cartridges, 39.91kg)
• One case (30) M26A1 fragmentation grenades (23.4kg)
• One case (16) M7A3 CS gas grenades (13.5kg)
• One case (16) M34 grenades (18.9kg)
• Two M18A1 Claymore mines (1.6kg each)
• Two M1 Timers (.6kg)
• Ten M2A1 Timers (.5kg)
• One roll, Primercord (5kg)
• One M183 demolition charge (10.5kg)

Re: Out of Character Posts I

Great idea!

I will dump that Camo net, though.  I dealt with those in the Army and assure you that they have little use on a boat in winter, and are large and heavy.

I question whether we can install an autonav, I would love that if we can.

I don't see climbing gear, and after Jimmy's conversation with the native guide he is going to want a bunch of that.  I do see a "Mountain kit".  We might want two... if that is what it is, or specific gear for ICE climbing.

Here is the current list:

Team Mission Issue:
1 Camp Kit, Team issue,
1 Demolitions Kit,
1 Demolition charge (C4, Det-Cord),
1 MAG-58 load (3 belts) plus tripod,
1 M174E4 load (3 drums) plus tripod,
1 Case Grenades, AN-M98 Smoke,
1 Case Grenades, AN-M14 TH3 (Thermite)
1 Case Flares, M1 Hand-Launched,
1 Case Mines, M18/A1 Claymore,
1 Set Tools, Electronic,
1 Set Tools, Mechanical,
9 Hazard Suits, Mk.I,
2 Geiger Counters,
9 PASGT Kevlar vests,
9 Cold Weather kits.
1 Pair Night Vision Goggles, w/ recharger
1 portable solar generator.

Boat Issue:
1 Set, AN/PPS-05 Surface Radar,
2 AN/PRC-70 Radios,
1 Trade Kit,
1 Contact Kit,
1 Medical Kit, Large.
3 Ration Kits (180 days food),
1 Portable Water Filtration Unit,
1 Portable Solar Power Unit,
1 AN/PPS-12 Ground Search Radar Unit,
1 Panasonic AG-196UP Wide Angle Camcorder in Hard Case,
6 Sony E-180 VHS cassette tapes.

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 596):

It looks like there never was a "climbing kit", even in 3rd ed. It was always called a "mountain kit". But this is definitely the kit you need for climbing!

The autonav would take some time to set up. There are two common versions: land and maritime models, plus one for aircraft. And these come in old (microfiche) and new (microprocessor) versions. The maritime version is best and available at Tukwila (Jimmy can bring one with him). It will take additional time to install it!

Thanks,

Tony

I know we have a weather deadline, but... I would like to have it if possible.

Yes, Jimmy will look into getting one for the boat for this mission.  Digital, please.

And a few more mountain kits.  =)

Do I need to RP any of that?

Re: Out of Character Posts I

Heads up!

Looks like RPOL is moving servers soon.

We will be offline for a while...

Here are a couple links with info.

link to a message in another game

quote:
Due to a requirement from our current host, the server is going to be relocated shortly.  The entire site will be unavailable while it is physically moved, you will not be able to access the site at all.

You'll know when it's back and running as everything will start working again.

link to a message in another game

quote:
Please be aware that we will "shortly" be moving RPoL to a shiny new server in a different location (Silicon Valley, California).

RPoL has been running off it's current software for about nine years now.  The operating system is out of date and no longer supported.  The hardware was upgraded once, three years ago, but the hard drives are the original and one has failed.  It's time to move to a newer operating system and newer equipment.

Our current host (NetDepot) has been very good to us but pricing has unfortunately increased for a modern equivalent of what we currently have.  Additionally virtualisation allows for a dedicated-like experience at a fraction of the cost.  In this instance 19/52s of a fraction, or around 36.5% of our current cost (if you want to be all user-friendly about it).

We'll be going from 3 GB memory to 8, a faster CPU (though less cores), and storage will be nice and fast on SSD (rather than 9 year old spinning disks).  Initial testing is promising and the new server looks very fast (up to 4 times faster for a very complex page), though take that with a grain of salt as it's not under any load at the moment.

Due to the fact we have to move a lot of data between locations there will be some downtime while the new server is updated with the latest from the current.  I will do dry runs before the final migration to give you a better estimate of the time it will take.

I'm not sure when exactly.  NetDepot have informed us they need to move our server in the next few days so it'd be nice to get it done by then, but I don't think I'd have sufficient testing by then to be comfortable to pull the trigger.

Folks I hope you don't mind me bringing Leaf, but even though she might be a hindrance to us doing what we want, this is Morrow Project, and relations with the native people are necessary and the project leaders members should be trying to do things the right way, whenever possible.

In reply to Mahalina Rae Powell (msg # 605):

I did. There were actually 2 cons going on, one weekend after another. My first one I mainly played in a monster Battletech game which reminded me why I stopped playing. (So much dice rolling, so many charts, so much record-keeping!) I did get to play in some great Harn RPGs. One even had a dude that composed filk songs on the fly about the game as it progressed.

Anyways please go over and update your gear lists. I'm looking at you, Lee! Once this train leaves the station it will be difficult to turn it around and come back!

Thanks,

Tony

Re: Out of Character Posts I

Lina is just going to take her basic load with her and leave most of her personal gear in a locker back at the fort.  Except for the ACOG which will be mounted on her carbine, NVGs, and her kerambit tucked inside her waistband.

I will be heading to Vegas tomorrow for a couple of days.  I will probably have time to read whatever you guys post,  but I won't be posting.

In reply to Mahalina Rae Powell (msg # 609):

Sure, have fun in Vegas!

I'll have you roll Persuasion to see if the gunsmith will mount an optical sight on a carbine or just laugh at the foolishness. I'm old enough to remember that in the 80's mounting such a thing on anything less than a battle rifle chambered 7.62mm NATO (e.g. HK91/G3 or M14/M21) was unheard of. (It's not impossible but unusual.) Project weapons do not have Picatinny rails (not invented yet) nor the earlier Weaver rails so mounting a telescopic sight would require actually drilling and tapping the receiver, not a simple process. (Actual Trijicon ACOG scopes would probably have been difficult to get ahold of in the late 80's but something similar could be obtained so that's not an issue.)

Thanks,

Tony

OOC:  It'd be nice to have both.  And the rain gear...

PD Note: shifted OOC comment to the OOC thread.

You have enough rain suits for everyone. Make a request about the zodiac(s) and see what happens!

Tony.   I thought that mounting sights and accessories was something that would have been taken care of before we went into cryo.  It was Tim's suggestion in the first place.  I can still make the roll if you want.

Either way, Tim. I don't think that it's that big of a deal.

Lina really isn't a gun person so she might be better served with a nice pair of binoculars instead. Something compact that fits into a pocket maybe.

Re: Out of Character Posts I

In reply to Mahalina Rae Powell (msg # 613):

My apologies, I didn't recall this being brought up before or else I missed it.

I would have pointed out most Project weapons (aside from the M21s) are not rigged for scopes (no rails) because almost nothing but sniper rifles were in those days and rails were uncommon. (My version of MPCanada issues Steyr AUGs with Weaver-type rails, but this is obviously not canon.) Nowadays it's standard to mount optics on most weapons (as this is a good idea) but back in the 80's the idea of mounting a telescopic sight on a carbine carried by an RTO (and not a marksman) would boggle most Project armourers' minds! Times have changed, of course, but that's the 80's for you.

That said, Lina can easily trade in her Stoner carbine for an M21? Or if it's not important we can move along.

Further, has the gear and ammunition you're taking been compared to standard MPV (Morrow Project Vehicle) issue?

Thanks!

That optic was the only thing that was not compatible with project issued equipment.

I see no reason to haul around that heavy ass rifle along with my already heavy ass radio.

How about we just drop the whole scope issue and retcon in something like a rubber-armored monocular, 8-10 power?
