Re: Out of Chracter Posts I

I could have sworn I saw it posted here but..

were there any changes in skills that can be used at 0% by MP personnel?

Also, with skills such as Firearms the book seems to indicate no need to specialize at 20 and under between rifle/pistol/machinegun, that is how I read it.

I will be getting Bargain at 30, does this mean that other bargain rolls that are not in my specialty are at 20?

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 70):

1) You're correct, I posted a few Advanced skills that you were assumed to have at 0% (instead of the -10% penalty for unskilled use) due to Project and RECON training. But this was unclear in the rules so I took it out. Sorry for any confusion!

2) Correct. For all skills that do not require a Specialty from the outset (marked with a "!") all skill rolls with subskills are at the base, up to 20%. To use your example, say you put 30 in Bargain, with 10 in Negotiate. Your Negotiate rolls are at 30 + EXP Skill Base, but all other Bargain rolls would still use your base 20. If you have Firearms 20, you can use all firearms at 20.

I am travelling Friday and going to funeral on Saturday. Look for the game start post on Sunday! Please have your characters completed before then so I can have a look at them.

We also need someone to play TL!

1.  Good, I thought I was going MAD!

2.  Very few are marked without a specialty.  Like.. 4 Own Language, Own Culture, Performance, and Martial Arts... Two of those are "Freebies" and I think that is what the bang (!) is for there, and the other two I am pretty sure a specialty is required at start.
From your description, you would mark it up to 20, then branch and add 10 to "Negociate?"  Is that the same thing with Firearms?  The sample sheets show breaking it up into 5 points per specialty, which seems to contradict the rules.

3.  My condolences, travel safely.

Re: Out of Chracter Posts I

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 72):

1) Pretty much all skills have a Specialty. The general rule is up to 20 is "general" knowledge, applicable to all facets equally. Eg. Firearms 20 means you can fire shotguns, handguns, rifles and machineguns all at a base 20.

2) Above 20, any points must be put towards a specialty. These points are added to the general points (above) when using that Specialty. Eg. Firearms 20, [Rifle 15] would count as 35 with rifles, but only 20 towards shotgun, handgun and machinegun. You can have multiple specialties, of course. Eg. Firearms 20, [Rifle 50], and [Handgun 10] equals Rifle 70, Handgun 30, shotgun and MGs at the base 20.

3) Only some skills are marked with a "!". These skill must start specialising right away. This makes sense; if you have Create! [Sculpting] 39 you can only create sculptures, you have a 0 in all other Create! skills.

I'm not sure which "sample sheets" you mean? The excel spreadsheet?

Ah, I see. Looking at the sample characters, I don't see any errors off the bat with the way points are allocated on a per-skill basis. The points are spent in blocks of 5, but I did that as well for ease of convenience.

Hello Team,

It occurs to me that some players might not know how to access their character sheets.

Please go to Character Details in the upper left side of the Game Menu.

From there, you can enter information into your character sheet. As well, you ca add a description, which is also something I want players to do. Finally, you can choose a portrait there, which you must do or I will choose one for you!

If you haven't seen it, this website is amazing.

And, I know the Commando Ranger is traditional.. but maybe we could have a HMMWV?

Yeah, Matt's site is pretty cool!

The Project doesn't issue Humvees, at least not in this era. It would be an XR311 (the stretched Lambourghini Chetah version).

Another great site is:

http://asmrb.pbworks.com/w/pag...242/Morrow%20Project

Lots of period gear photos.

It's not so bad. There's one near here in Chilliwack that I've gone out to see. There's not that much space but there's really good head room compared to most APCs and IFVs including the LAV and M113. And it's pretty good for the driver and assistant driver/RTO, east to get into and out of.

The campaign style is basically "Late Wake Up" with some "Lone Wolf" elements thrown in.

Re: Out of Chracter Posts I

In reply to Tim Charles White (msg # 82):

The above gear is all GM-approved.

Tim would have literally suggested this to the other personnel in Regional RECON team K-44 (Jimmy, Malina, Alice). They have all trained together for over a year in standard Project fashion.

Dylan would have training and deployed with SCIENCE S-6, assigned to Combined Group Seattle. The three local recruits (Filat, Jenna and Kim) are a different story, of course!

When we go to game start, RECON K-44 will start in one thread, the other PCs will be in another.

Sorry for not mentioning it but Tim is TL for RECON K-44. Dylan is leading the local PC group.

Re: Out of Chracter Posts I

Lina's list is:

waterproof plastic pouch
  Family pictures
  civilian driver's license
Small leather bound Bible with zipper.
  Mother's Rosary

Water proof plastic pouch
  Engineer's pocket reference
Flip-book of engineering/construction laminated charts and tables
  Slide Rule
Casio graphing calculator w/3 sets of extra batteries.

Waterproof plastic pouch
2 bars of rose scented soap
  Reusable feminine hygiene products.
Roll of TP, flattened in ziplock bag.

Balisong knife
Kerambit in leather sheath

------------

Lina is primarily focused on bringing memories and some comfort items along with some pro gear.

As a practical item, some USGS maps of our patrol area would be a nice to have.

She's not a gun/tactical person, but she has been around enough to realize the need to be armed.  Most of Tim's choices seem to be practical and Lina can recognize their utility .  If there is still room left then why not stuff in some extra stuff. NVG would make sense, maybe the ACOG.

I had to do some research because I didn't think it was that old.

BTW, how are you supposed to mount an PEQ2 without a rail?  Our weapons are pre-tacticool.

The TA01 was the first product that Trijicon made in 1987 up until that point they had been importing a similar optic from South Africa. Tim is a gunsmith so he can stick something on with little problem. All the items that can be attached to a rifle come with quick detach mounts so he just needs to get out the drill and butcher the hand guards.

Jimmy is focused as a contact specialist.

He has chosen the gift of music to share and harmonicas to gift, and has some very useful phrase books, rather than learning every language under the sun.  He is very adept at picking up languages on the fly and that gives him a leg up.

His full time job was used car salesman, and he was a Cav Scout (19D) in the US Army, Initially.  The hidden truth is that he re-enlisted INSCOM after that, and was an INSCOM NCO in the reserves working on Russian intelligence.

I'll say that any weapon modifications can be done beforehand. All your weapons are the ones you've trained on and are sighted-in for your PCs personally, no reason Tim can't work on them ahead of time.

For example if Jimmy wants to add a "can" for his Walther (and some subsonic ammo) then Tim can install a threaded barrel.

Re: Out of Chracter Posts I

Hi team,

I feel very foolish! In making the character sheet I forgot to make an entry for "Explosives"! Perhaps this critical skill got overlooked some. I know Dylan will have it, as well as Jenna and Alice, at least at basic levels. Mahalina as a Seabee would probably also have some knowledge.

OK then, it looks like Alice has the only demolitions training on the team so far, and it's pretty basic. Not a problem, RECON teams are not usually expected to deploy a lot of demolitions.

No worries.

I think the RECON team is a little light on personnel. Minimum RECON team size is usually 6. This allows for 2 vehicle crew plus 4 dismounts.

Therefore I'm adding a couple NPCs to the roster to add a little depth:

Robert Michael Kastelein: backup comms, driver and tech; Load #1. Viet Nam veteran (support) and short-order cook from New Jersey.

Tina Marie Lassiter: scout, demolitions, gunner; Load #1. Hunter, trapper and former Sheriff's deputy from Florida.
