22:05, Today: James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire rolled 3 using 1d100 with rolls of 3.  reroll on digging out.

From one extreme to the other, I was excited momentarily because most games reward you with a low roll =(

This is like.. a terrible success roll.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 35):

Yeah, it's a bit of a bait-and-switch from most games, where a 03 roll would be nice!

Luckily, the point here is not to keep you bottled up in the bolthole. Otherwise, how would we start the game? But we might have to slow down the pace a little to let the other group catch up.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Dylan Richard Sinclar (msg # 37):

You can roll for Dylan as well. For him it's a Difficult (-20%) check. This is due to a lack of familiarity, using old maps and not possessing the lore passed down on this area.

Re: Die Rolls

PD Note: All players can assume they are on the correct freq. No roll is required by Lina to accomplish this. She can make a Comms check (Routine difficulty, +20% to skill) to draw some conclusions from Prime's transmission.

Communications 60 +20 for routine task.

22:24, Today: Mahalina Rae Powell rolled 96 using 1d100 with rolls of 96.  Comm check.

1 Degree of Failure... not too terrible.

It just seemed like a normal transmission, completely expected.

That would be a problem since we don't have any tin foil or psychiatric meds.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Jenna Tallfeather (msg # 49):

As a note, when I say "Add a +20/+40 bonus to your skill" do not add that number to your rolled number. This will make it HARDER to roll under your skill, right? Instead, count that towards the skill itself, making it easier to roll under!

That works for me.

Make a Navigation roll at +40 (Easy) to your effective skill level. (Not the roll itself.)

But with it, a resounding success!

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Jenna Tallfeather (msg # 58):

It's a little counter-intuitive.

If you get a "positive" bonus, we naturally want to add to or subtract from the roll. Yet with a percentile system you want to roll low. But low rolls are bad as well, or at least not good. You want to roll as close to your TN as possible without going over, so subtracting doesn't always work as well. It's not surprising many people don't really like this kind of rolling, although I see the positive benefits including the generation of degrees of success.
