Re: Die Rolls

Project Director:
In reply to Jenna Tallfeather (msg # 58):

It's a little counter-intuitive.

If you get a "positive" bonus, we naturally want to add to or subtract from the roll. Yet with a percentile system you want to roll low. But low rolls are bad as well, or at least not good. You want to roll as close to your TN as possible without going over, so subtracting doesn't always work as well. It's not surprising many people don't really like this kind of rolling, although I see the positive benefits including the generation of degrees of success.

Tony

It is strangely exciting.

"Did I just muff that roll, or knock it out of the park?  Let me check my sheet."

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Project Director (msg # 59):

You needing any rolls from me now?  Like something about my opinion of how good a chance we have of getting through? I was thinking - the other crew is supposed to have vehicles.  If we go down there and get stuck, none of us are getting out of here.  We'll need rescue for the rescuers and the Project can't really spare the resources.

Does Jenna have any knowledge of the other trail that runs back south from Lake Geneva?  Basically instead of coming back this way, you would continue south and eventually cut back to the Open Road.  Problem is, unless that too was maintained it will not be at all functional.  Even in good times it was just a little two lane back road.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Jenna Tallfeather (msg # 61):

I am not waiting on any rolls. She thinks they can make it. If anyone gets stuck, they do have a tow truck! KR-44 likely has a vehicle, possibly a Ranger or V-150. Either they take the vehicles or they walk. If they take the vehicles, then Jenna is doing useful route recon on the most obvious route.

This is the only trail she knows of. She can return to the Open Road and try somewhere else, like the route that goes through Alger as you mention, but as they passed by without seeing anything there before it's unlikely to be better "pioneered" (maintained/blazed) than this one.

As for what Dylan wants, it's hard to say. Dave is apparently having some issues posting so basically do what you want. Daniel is acting as de facto 2IC and running the team unless Dylan says otherwise, at least to keep things moving.

Dave's issue was stomach flu and all the fun that intales.  But I am back now and ready to play coach.

failed stealth.  Though why dex is involved in hiding I don't understand.  Would think that would be sneaking, not hiding.

Re: Die Rolls

In reply to Jenna Tallfeather (msg # 70):

The Observe rolls in this case were made secretly by me.

I guess you can make the case that hiding is mainly a matter of keeping still, which is a measure of you ability to exert control over your body. Otherwise I guess you could argue it's a FOC skill.

Otherwise, I am going to make a new shared thread for both teams. Not just this moment but soon.

I put together Demolition and Observation to see if she had any idea of what to do to finish the job.

I think both Jesnna singing and Jimmy's harmonica are Route tasks (+20 to skill) if not Simple (+4). Certainly not Challenging (+/-0)!

No worries about the volcano! My fault for not being clearer. There are about three active ones in your AO (Baker, Rainier and Glacier Peak) and one of five Stratovolcanoes in the Cascade volcanic Arc.

For that matter Alice needs to make a drive check for taking the Ranger out. Normally this would not require a check but there is some rough terrain and obstacles (craters and tree trunks) in the way or partially in the way.

This is an Easy task (+40 to skill) so it's unlikely you'll fail. Blow your roll by enough and it's "roll the Ranger" time!
