Re: The test of Mettle!
round 9 summary

Morien chants and casts another spell

George and  Jarvis are squared off, George with his back to you doesn't see the spell being cast, but Jarvis does. "We could keep slugging it out and make it easy for Mr chilly over there who just cast something or we could be smart. You're call ultra blondie."

"I said I'd be back to crush whoever of those two were left standing."

"What and you'd think he'd be kind enough to wait for you to finish? The smart thing for him to do is attack you while we are fighting until you are down and then move onto me since I've taken more hits. So there are three options here really. We keep fighting giving him the edge, we team up on him and then get back to kicking each others rears or we back away and make this a standoff. See who has more nerve and patience with a whole crowd screaming at us to tear each other apart."

"I teamed up to fight the bug-bear because he was a loud mouthed savage not a real warrior. So I think I will choose the standoff." George then carefully backs away until he is equidistant from Morien and Jarvis. Jarvis stays where he is, holding his weapon at the ready.

"Well then looks like we wait."

OOC: ok round 9 is done. post round 10. If you want to delay we'll do the standoff. otherwise it's on you to act.

Morien chuckles. "Well met, Jarvis. I knew there was a reason I liked you."

Morien, however, had a spell burning on his hand and needed to act, so there was no hesitation on his part. He rushed George. This time, he combines two of his techniques with his spell.

Morien chuckles. "Well met, Jarvis. I knew there was a reason I liked you."

Morien, however, had a spell burning on his hand and needed to act, so there was no hesitation on his part. He rushed George. This time, he combines two of his techniques with his spell. two attacks vs touch ac are a hit the rapidness of the attack combined with the blurring and unusual angles that Morien comes at George from allows Morien to slip his guard and slap the warrior twice. damage 10 Morien senses the attacks are less effective then they normally would have been. secondary attacks vs fort, one miss one hit. George is fatigued But the real effect morien was hoping for hit with full force. George might be resistant to cold, but fatigue was the greatest enemy of all warrior and thanks to morien's magic george's movements were now slower and sloppier, his breathing ragged.

George immediately counter attacks attack vs morien ac is a hit. at first the blow looks like it would be light, but as it lands it strikes with unnatural force. damage 10. this overcomes your DR. Make a martial lore check to Id this technique if you have that skill trained.

jarvis moves into action flanking george with morien. hoping to exploit george's new weakened state since the assimar proved so tough to hit before. attack vs george's ac is a miss but still can't manage to land a blow.

 Morien growled in pain "OWW!"

His next attack is is as much a shove as a blade strike. Taking advantage of the dwarf's new position, he strikes, trying to unbalance the aasimar and give the dwarf a better chance of hitting his target.

20:30, Today: Morien rolled 26 using 1d20+8. Leading the Attack.
20:32, Today: Morien rolled 5 using 1d10+4. damage.

George switches his attention back to Jarvis, obviously hoping to even the odds by bringing down the other obviously wounded warrior. attack vs jarvis ac is a hit. Damage 8 the dwarf grunts. It is obvious that he is close to his limit. But the dwarf lashes out despite his injuries hoping to get at least one more good shot in before the end. attack vs George ac is a miss But the old dwarf misses as George deflects the attack with his shield.

round 11 is finished post round 12 whenever.

Seeing his situation and knowing that most of his attacks would be useless against the aasimar, Morien let out a sigh... and then a roar.

He lashed out with his bare hands, dropping his weapon and reaching for the aasimar's while he still held a slight advantage.

12:14, Today: Morien rolled 19 using 1d20+11. disarm (using hero point).

Morien drops his sword and reaches out for Georges Provokes AoO, attack vs morien ac is a miss ,/orange> George sees the move and tries to stab morien, but the wooden sword does not have a sharp hardened point like a real sword and so Morien's heavy armor causes the attack to round off. Morien reaches out for george's sword <orange> CMB vs George CMD is a success. and tears it from george's grasp.

George does the only thing he can do at the moment. he backs off Provokes AOO from you and jarvis. jarvis AoO is a miss.   jarivs tries to punish the retreating  aasimar but the man's heavy armor takes the brunt of the attack leaving him unscathed. George heads over to where thunk had fallen unconscious. He picks up the huge club the bug bear had been using and dropping his shield. "let's finish this!"

Jarvis takes the warrior up on his offer and charges george. attack vs george ac is a miss But despite Georges decreased defense the dwarf still misses.

12:49, Today: Morien rolled 16 using 1d20+7. AoO.

He then tosses the weapon out of the ring and moves near to the edge of the ring, not bothering to pick up his weapon. "Hey Jarvis, you up for one last shot at this?"

He motions for the dwarf to move nearby.

Morien tosses the one handed sword he took from george out of the ring, but does not stop to pick up his own.

george retaliates against jarvis bring the two handed club down in a heavy strike aimed at crushing jarvis's thigh. George attack vs jarvis ac is a hit. damage 14. jarvis screams as the club smashes his knee and sends the old dwarf crashing to the ground unable to move. As the blow strikes you see a faint flash of limit surround george.

"Pick up your weapon." George calls out.

basically he's going to wait until you arm yourself or take offensive action before attacking.

Re: The test of Mettle!
Morien sighs amd walks over to his discarded weapon, picking it up from the dust. He was out of ideas. The aasimar was able to bypass his defenses and was resistant to his attacks. He didn't have enough fight left in him for many more hits and was pretty sure the aasimar still had plenty left.

He only had one sure way to win, but it was against the rules... so he had to think of something.

... but for now, he waited for George to approach.

George does not make you wait long. He raises the large club over his head and charges at you attack vs morien ac is a miss But with a quick twist you are able to turn enough so that the blow doesn't land cleanly and rounds off your armor.

Post your action. were you delaying or did you ready an action?

OOC: I delayed

Morien takes a defensive stance as he strikes at the Aasimar. He takes advantage of his opponent's usage of a much larger weapon, striking at his opponent's exposed neck.

19:42, Today: Morien rolled 20 using 1d20+2. attack, fighting defensively.
19:43, Today: Morien rolled 22 using 1d20+2. crit confirm.
19:42, Today: Morien rolled 12 using 1d10+4. damage.
19:44, Today: Morien rolled 10 using 1d10+4. critical lethal damage.

---if he doesn't go down---

He then takes a 5ft step backward, gesturing for the half-celestial to attack again.

Re: The test of Mettle!
Morien capitalizes on George's haste and punishes him with a powerful counter attack. Any number of warriors would have been felled by such a blow, but George withstands it and keeps on swinging geoerge attack vs morien ac is a miss but the ferocity of the last blow seems to have effected the warrior more than he let on since his swing goes wide and seemed weaker than his previous attacks.

OOC ok morien your turn again.

Morien lashes out with the last bit of heroic effort he can muster, knowing that, if he is struck again like he knows George is capable of, he will likely crumple.

23:19, Today: Morien rolled 10 using 1d10+4. damage.
23:19, Today: Morien rolled 18 using 1d20+7. attack. (Using my last hero point to bring it up to 22)

---if he is still standing---

Morien shifts position again, trying to place George between himself and the edge of the ring.

Morien's last attack strikes true "damn" George mutters as he staggers and then falls.

"What a fight! After a grueling two minutes of intense battling the Melee is over. Morien is the Victor! team Arcadia Jumps into the lead."

several officals move into the ring. most are tending to your fallen opponents, but one approaches you. "Congratulations on your victory. we will hold your award ceremony shortly. Are you going to choose the weapon or the purse of gold as your prize?

OOc: you needed to use that last hero point in order to win, however winning also grants you a hero point.

Also for winning you earn 2500 xp

Morien takes a deep breath and lets the stick fall to the ground. "I'll look over the items."

He was relieved that the fight was over. At least he wouldn't have Dustil hanging a loss over his head. Now he owed the man a keg of beer.

He raised his hands, drinking in the cheers from the crowd, letting out a loud, hoarse victory yell. He wanted to ham it up for the crowd... but, in truth, he just wanted to sit down and wait for his allies at this point. Fighting the aasimar had taken a bit out of him.

Re: The test of Mettle!
After asking which sort of weapons you prefer and taking your indication of two handed he leaves and ten minutes later a small wagon with a rack built onto it pulled over to you. There are ten weapons on it.

"you may pick one of these."

on the wagon are:

a bastard sword that is without a doubt the best made sword you have ever seen, including Johan's rapier. It is almost as if the smith had taken the idea bastard sword and had given it form.

An oddly shaped great axe. It's head is shaped more like a disk than a wedge and it's haft has an odd bend in it.

A Falchion with a cruel looking nearly serrated edge.

A scythe. Where the blade and the haft meet is worked to look like a large skull. and the wooded haft is carved to look like stacked skulls.

A blackend halberd with a gray wood haft, a cruel looking barbed spike on the back of the axe head and covered with odd looking sigils.

A heavy looking spiked flail that gleamed, reflecting light almost as if it were a mirror.

A heavy red orange pole.

An impossibly big great hammer with a head that seemed to be made out of stone instead of metal.

A long spear with a red pennant attached to the haft.

And a metal quarter staff with a chain running through it. it seems like you can fight with it as a normal quarterstaff or your can break it into three attached sections and fight with it like that.

Re: The test of Mettle!
the attendant picked up the scythe and as it moved it seemed to leave a shadowy haze and emit a soft but eerie noise like sounded like an almost demonic wail full of despair and disappointment.

"disconcerting isn't it? Somehow threats of violence seem more...meaningful when spoken holding it. Also whenever a grievous wound is inflicted by it the victim's will to fight several lessened if not broken."

OOC: I, or maybe I should say you, got pretty lucky when I was rolling for these items. many of these are pretty good. The scythe is a +1 ominous weapon.
you add it's enhancement bonus to all intimidate checks made while wielding it. In addition whenever you confirm a critical hit you can make an attack vs will equal to 1 + your charisma mod. if successful the victim is shaken for 3 minutes, since the scythe's cric multiplier is so high.

"the falchion is slightly enchanted. It was created with a cruel edge so that wounds created by it do not close easily OOc: basically it's a +1 weapon with the bleeding masterwork+ quality. anyone hit by this weapon bleeds for one point of damage a round until they receive a dc 25 heal check or a lesser restoration or higher spell cast on them. the bleeding effect does not stack.
