The test of Mettle!
 the set up for the test of mettle was finished first, since it was the easiest. All that needed doing was bringing out the padded weapons and creating a large circle. One by one each of you was called into the ring.

"THUNK!" A large bugbear in chain mail walked forward grabbed whatever looked like the heaviest of the padded weapons, a huge club, and entered the ring.

"This be easy. Smash you quick." it proclaims.

"CLEAVE" A large dull gray sturdy Golem like creature stamps forward. Though not as tall as the bugbear this creature obviously weights more from how the sand compacts every time his feet drop. cleave grabs a large wooden sword.

"Try it meatbag!" the warfroged retorts

"GEORGE BLAKE" A heavily muscled, but short, man with platnium hair golden eyes and what looks like occasional silver flecks that glint in the sunlight in his skin, what you can see of it with his helmet off anyway, wearing fullplate and carrying a shield walks forward. unlike the other two he doesn't say anything. he grabs a one handed wooden sword.

"JARVIS WALKER" An old stout slate skinned and grey bearded dwarf walks forward.  he grabs what looks like a padded staff or pole. "Time ta learn ya youngins somethin'."

"JACOB TAYLOR" a young human boy of about 16 steps forward. He doesn't say anything but you can clearly read the eagerness and excitement in his stance and gestures. he's ready or at least he thinks he is. he picks up what looks like some kind of padded polearm.

"MORIEN!"

 Morien clanks into the arena and grabs hold of whatever looks closest to a Padded Greatsword. He says nothing. Instead, he eyes each of the other combatants, trying to figure out the best way to approach this.

01:10, Today: Morien rolled 20 using 1d20+2. initiave.  (for when it comes up)

Re: The test of Mettle!
All of the contestants have entered the ring and the crowd watches in eager anticipation. Often these fights are a crap shoot, either a quick, brutal mess of limbs until only one stands or a long hard fought battle of position, timing, and tactics. the first move almost always decides how this things play out...

OOC: initiative order is:

Morien
george blake
thunk
cleave
jarvis
jacob.

it is a large 40 foot in diameter ring, so you are at most 40 feet from an opponent.
----------------XXXXXX
-------------XX--T----XX
------------XX-------C--XX
-----------XX-G----------XX
-----------XX-----------JXX
------------XXM---------XX
-------------XX------A-XX
---------------XXXXXXXX

just a little diagram to give you a rough idea.

t = thunk
c = cleave
g = George blake
j = jarvis walker
a = jacob taylor
m = morien.

Morien first move is yours.

stats on the padded greatsword. 1d10, 20 crit x2. it deals nonlethal damage on a normal hit and half lethal half nonlethal on a crit.

You get to move first. Which means who ever your first opponent is will be flat-footed against your attack if you make an attack this round. good luck!

Re: The test of Mettle!
 Morien was ready, perhaps overly so. He was ready to move as soon as the signal was given... but he waits instead. If there was one thing that Morien was, it was patient. If given the opportunity, he would wait until his opponents were otherwise engaged before making a move.

 He readies his weapon though. If anyone attacked him, they would recieve an unpleasant surprise.

17:49, Today: Morien rolled 1 using 1d6. freezing blade damage.
17:49, Today: Morien rolled 14 using 1d10+4. padded greatsword damage.
17:49, Today: Morien rolled 3 using 1d6. shadow blade damage.
17:49, Today: Morien rolled 20 using 1d20+6. shadow blade 2.
17:49, Today: Morien rolled 19 using 1d20+6. shadow blade 1.

Re: The test of Mettle!
Round 1 summary.
Morien:
geogre blake
thunk
cleave
jarvis walker
jacob taylor

Morien waits and readies himself for an attack.

George blake acts similarly.

Thunk screams and charges Cleave "You be scrap metal man." bringing the heavy wooden club down on the warforged with a powerful two handed strike. thunk attack vs cleave ac is a hit the bugbear might sound like an idiot but he knew how to swing. the club makes a solid thunk as it strikes the heavy dull gray side of cleave. Damage 23 the powerful attack put a large dent in the warriors side and made him stumble a bit.

But cleave recovered quickly and lashed out with an attack all his own. cleave attack vs thunk ac is a hit. that scored into thunk's flank. the bug bear's chain shirt doing nothing to soften the blow. Damage 18

Something about the bug bear must have annoyed the asasimar because george blake rushes forward and attacks thunk catching him between the warforged an himself. George attack vs thunk ac is a miss but despite that advantage he somehow manages to miss. "good, all come to thunk so he does not need move as far to crush you!" the crowd is eating up the exchange between two monsters exclaiming oohs! and Ahh! at each massive blow.

meanwhile the dwarf moves in on jacob, the young warrior however is not caught napping and lashes out with his longer weapon at the dwarf's hands. disarm attempt vs jarvis is a success the young man's aim his fast and true. smacking the dwarf's hand hard and knocking the weapon out of it. to the dwarf's embarrassment. "thought you were going to teach us something old man?" the dwarf continues forward now moving faster "experience and determination beats the crap out of pluck." and raises his elbow while lowering his stance to get lower to the ground and slams into the kid. bullrush vs CMD is a success knocking him back and forcing one of the kids feet out of the ring "Proper use of position and terrain trump all. Remember it." the crowd laughs and applauds

"Oh the battle has begun! It's looking like it will be intense this year. Already some savage blows have been exchanged and Jarvis Walker has taught jacob taylor to respect his elders! But morien has yet to engage! is it because he is afraid? Or is he merely sizing up the enemy and waiting for the right moment to strike! with out contestant out of the fight already it looks like this year's competition will be over fast!"

OOc: since no one attacked morien his readied action does not come to pass and round 1 ends. post round 2 whenever you are ready.

 Seeing the golem creature and the aasimar engage the bugbear, Morien moves to do the same. He tries to take up a flanking position with the Aasimar in order to bring the bugbear down more quickly.

20:45, Today: Morien rolled 21 using 1d20+6. attack (+2 if flanking works).
20:46, Today: Morien rolled 7 using 1d10+4. damage.

Round 2 Summary
morien
thunk
cleave
george
jarvis walker
</orange>

Morien moves forward and gangs up on the bugbear as well, deciding to take that threat out fast was the wiser course instead of waiting and finishing off who ever was left. He lashes out with his heavy wooden sword can't flank with george since he is flanking with cleave. Attack 19 vs ac is a hit though. and clips the bug bear in the thigh. damage 7

"smash you!" the frenzied bug bear shouts as he swings at cleave once more. Attack vs cleave ac is a miss but morien's strike seems to have thrown him off balance and though he connects the warforge's heavy reinforced body turns the blow.

Cleave retaliates immediately and scores a sound blow unlike the now foaming at the mouth bugbear. cleave attack vs thunk ac is a hit smashing his wooden sword down hard unto thunks shoulder. damage 22

george once again attacks the bugbear Attack vs thunk ac is a hit and catches the beast square in the back. damage 8

jarvis moves over and picks up his weapon, but does not engage.

"What a fight! thunk is proving to be a one tough opponent. facing odds of three to one yet still no hint of hesitation of fear. Just relentless offense. the crowd is loving it, but with the amount of damage he's taking it doesn't seem like a good overall strategy. Also makes you wonder what those three temporary allies will do once the bugbear is down? Could be a tense moment and exciting standoff that ends with an intense three way fight! don't forget about jarvis walker though. the old dwarf after having showed Jacob Taylor the ropes so to speak is now sitting back and watching the melee. Is he planning to let the younger warriors wear themselves out before picking off the rest or merely catching his breath?

 Morien pauses for a moment or two, as though pondering something. He then wreaths himself in shadow and takes a position between Cleave and the bugbear.

OOC: using a withdraw action to reposition myseal so that Thunk gets a flanking bonus vs Cleave. Not taking any offensive action though.

Round 3 summary:
Morien
Thunk
Cleave
george
jarvis

Morien carefully disengages from the melee only to appear behind Cleave.

Thunk capitalizes on the now distracted cleave, though it seems that the bugbear is moving on vicious instinct and hate rather than any sort of tactical acumen. he brings his heavy club down in a powerful two handed smash thunk attack vs cleave ac is a miss but the experienced and hardy warforged is able to turn his body such that the blow rounds off and only clips him, doing no real damage.

"one stupid meatbag and one clever meatbag are still no match for me!" Cleave comments as he lashes out at thunk again hoping to bring down the now rabid seeming bugbear. cleave attack vs thunk ac is a hit his wooden two handed sword crashes once more into thunks side damage 18 and sends the bugbear sprawling to the ground clutching his side and weezing heavily unable to move or seemingly breathe the bugbear falls unconscious.

George Blake looks at the two of you "I'll going for that dwarf. when I'm finished with him I'll take down which ever of you two is left." and then charges at jarvis. george blake attack vs jarvis ac is a hit and uses the momentum from his charge to bring the blade down hard on the dwarf's shoulder. damage 5

the dwarf barely even flinches as the blow lands and counters with one of his own. jarvis attack vs george ac is a miss But george deftly deflects it with his shield.

 Morien grumbled to himself. He had overestimated the bugbear's toughness and now found himself in an awkward position. "I would have preferred to wait a little longer before engaging... but oh well."

 He then launched a scissor-like attack at the golem-creature with his blade, covering it in shadow and frost.

23:42, Today: Morien rolled 8 using 1d10+4. damage.
23:42, Today: Morien rolled 6 using 1d6+3. Cold (freezing blade).

Round 4 summary
morien
cleave
george
jarvis

Morien attacks with an exotic technique, his sword appearing to be in two places at once attacks 22 and 23 vs cleave ac are a hit and both blades catch cleave in the side. though the sturdy warforge's metal reinforced hide absorbs some of the impact. damage dealt 14, total damage on cleave 35

"Impressive, but not enough meatbag!" the warforged exclaims as he tries to bring his sword down upon you. cleave attack vs morien ac is a miss but you manage to predict the path of his swing and move out of the way just in time.

george blake continues his assault on jarvis attack vs jarvis ac is  a miss but misses as the dwarf proves far more nimble than expected.

jarvis retaliates almost immediately jarvis attack vs ac is a miss but can't seem to penetrate George's impressive defenses.

Morien lashes out with a chilly hand and firmly slaps cleave's side touch attack vs cleave's ac is a hit. damage 4. Secondary attack vs fort is a hit. cleave is now fatigued. . the warforged at first glance seems unfazed, but in a moment you notice his form's getting a little sloppy and his swings aren't as fast "Clever meatbag, but I'm not frail like you. I'll end this soon.

cleave then lashes out with his wooden sword cleave attack vs ac is a miss but his attacks just lack the power they previously had and your armor keeps absorbing the impact for you. it's almost like he's hitting you with a pillow.

George and jarvis are full in it now. george swings once more george attack vs jarvis c is a hit damage 4 whileno one blow is serious they are adding up. He's taking jarvis down bit by relentless bit. The dwarf realizing that he won't hit the other warrior if they keep like this instead tries to trip. CMB vs CMD is a failure but george reads jarvis's move and avoids the dwarf's leg sweep.
