I swear, this dice roller. When I need a 20, it gives me a 27. When I need a 30, it gives me a 19. Sigh. >=/

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
The time it takes isn't an issue, I think it's more of the whole auto success thing that bugs me. I just might house rule something about it soon because I feel it's being used a little to often. It's not supposed to be a "I take 2 hours and find all the traps" it's more of a I take 2 minutes and climb that small wall or up that tree type of deal.

Oh by the way yanyeeku there aren't any traps. This is a straight skill challenge obstacle course.

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
well, in the case of traps, taking 20 to find them is more of a search check than a spot check and anyone poking around looking for them will likely set them off if they don't have some training (ie. trapfinding)

now, if you're taking 20 to find all the traps in your current path (representing testing each step you make (probably with a stick or something) to avoid traps), then that should probably still slide, unless, of course, it's a trap that triggers something far off (like a boulder)

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
trapfinding is different in pathfinder. anyone can notice traps with dc over 20. now trapfinding is just an ability that gives you a bonus on perception checks to find traps. Also it's not just traps I just used those as an example. My point is that personally I am beginning to feel like people are using the rule to often, but enough of that.

anyway Drazgar I was telling dustil to make an acrobatics check to walk along the balance beams. If you want to follow him go for it. However I thought you were going to jump onto the harness train with the rest of them.

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
alright so drazgar make your climb or str checks if you are going to use the harness to get to the platform aden and morien are on.

Otherwise so far dustil and yanyeeku have finished, but the rest of you still have a ways to go.

To be clear though, Dustil is going last. So if someone like Drazgar needs help he can help. That's why I was trying to wait to roll, but...I didn't want to be holding up the game.

Do you guys need Dustil to help out? I did mention he was going last to try to help out. I just wanted to get the rolling taken care of (stupid diceroller).

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
well where they would need you would be on the third platform with a red pole on it on the right side. it's just to the right of the small platform with the balance beam that leads to the platform with the door on it. so you'd need to do a little jumping but nothing you couldn't handle.

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
So Dustil would need to move back to the platform on the right with the red poles that's NOT right against the wall, right?

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
I knew I should have just numbered these damn things...and yes that would be correct. dustil would need to move to the platform just to the right of the small platform connected to the exit platform by the purple balance beam.

That last post is a good argument for why the take 20 rule exists I think :P

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
I know why it exists and I don't think using it is bad, but I do think using it as we have been has trivialized certain kinds of challenges was my point.

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
Does Dustil need to make a roll to catch the tossed rope/grapple, or to 'hook' it on something or anything?

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
well on a miss that was close you could make a dex check to try and catch it. but otherwise if he would get it into your square by meeting the ranged attack dc you auto catch it. As for securing it; that depends. to secure it to something you can reach requires no check. it you want to attach it to the top of the pole you have to climb up and secure it. toss it and secure it or, if you can make the dc, jump up and secure it. so securing it in itself has no check, just getting the circumstance where it can be secured to something might.

Okay, what would I be looking at for climb or jump DCs out of curiosity? I might be able to take 5 on the jump up, but I'm willing to roll climbing.

Re: OOC part 2: the revenge...
you're looking at a jump dc around 40 if you want to jump to the top of the pole. It is 15 feet tall.

the climb check dc is somewhere around 17 ish. since your base land speed is 40 you can climb it in a single round so only one check would be necessary.

the ranged attack roll to affix the grappling hook to the top of the pole by tossing it is 9 if you stand next to the pole.
