Re: Festival Day 3: Afternoon.
At the smith.

"unfortunately we currently do not have any Enchanted Mithral Breastplate. In fact generally we don't sell magic items, unless we get some as barter or to pay off a tab. What we do have are mostly good solid dependable weapons and armor. We do have some superior items that the master has crafted and among them is a single set of Composite Mithral breast plate. The young lad leads you deeper into the shop and over to a particular rack. On that rack is a set of Silver breast plate with Dull black streaks and accents.

<brown>"This is one of the masters best works to date. It is made from a composite alloy of both adamantine and Mithral. How the master managed that is a feat I can't comprehend since those two metals have such vastly different attributes. It grants the wielder more protection and reduces the damage taken from grievous blows at the cost of being heavier and a little less agile as mithral breastplate is supposed to be."
OOC: in game terms the stats on the Composite mithral breast plate are +7 armor bonus, +4 max dex bonus, -2 armor check penalty. no base speed reduction, spell failure chance 15%, weight 20 lbs, When the wearer is dealt a critical hit the damage received is reduces by by up to 10 point, max half of damage dealt. basically if you are hit by a critical hit and the base damage is 7, if the weapon had a critical x2 multiplier the damage taken normally would be 14 but the armor would reduce that to 7. Same hit but the multiplier x3 so the damage normally would be 21 it gets reduced by 10 to 11. it is not magical

"The cost of this armor is 8,500 GP.You will need to pay an additional 500 gold if you want it."

At the Academy

"That is quite the request. From my somewhat limited understanding creating such an item would technically be impossible. We have a couple of the standard haversacks for sale. If you are set on obtaining these unique items there are two possibilities. The first is The request board. You pay a 500 gold fee as a deposit, to ensure your seriousness in the request, and we post a detailed notice on the request board. If a student, teacher or some associated mage sees it and is interested we will pass on your contact information so he can discuss the project with you. After you both agree to terms and a contract is signed we will hand the 500 gold over to the one who accepted the request. The one attempting to fulfill the request may ask for additional resources or funds. Such negotiations are part of the contract. Additionally we, the school, are not responsible for any failure of the one who accepts the request to produce the agreed upon items, experimentation results, translations, schematics, ect that were agreed upon in the contract. If you cannot find anyone who is willing or you believe is capable of fulfilling your request you will be refunded your 500 gold minus a 10 gold processing fee.

The second method is to try and directly form a contract with a specific mage. We can contact said mage and relay your request to him. That has a 20 gold non-refundable fee. however we cannot guarantee that said mage will be interested or capable of taking said request."

The second method is to try and directly make a contract with a specific mage.

At the Academy:

A bit of wonder revealed itself in the arch of Safia's brow. Technically impossible? She tilted an inquisitive, if not curious look to Morien, but remained silent for the moment.

While she waited, she let her gaze roam about in casual survey, her thoughts drifting. It's probably ridiculous to consider the Archmage Archibald for the job, but wouldn't that be incredible.  With all that Tamalie’s mother had told her about the Academy, Safia half-expected to catch a glimpse of something unusual-ish.

Re: Festival Day 3: Afternoon.
At the Smiths

"I was counting the Mithral Ore as part of the 8000." the young boy takes sometime to evaluate the mithral breastplate Draz'gar is currently wearing. We can give you 2175 gold worth of credit in exchange for your breast plate. Which means we would need to take 6325 worth of gold from the Mithral Ore, gems and gold you placed on the counter earlier. If you want I can give you gold for the remaining amount of left over mithral Ore."

At the Academy

"Someone who would be interested in this request? Hold on a Moment. We have a ledger where some have listed what sorts of jobs they would be most interested in taking. I will check and then contact the person in question before I post the request on the board and maybe save you a little money." The man takes twenty gold and then pulls out a large ledger and starts going through the pages. After a few minutes he seems to settle on a name. He then tears off a small square of paper from a pad of paper and writes on it. He then folds it into an odd shape. chants something and then tosses it into the air. The paper crumbles and then forms into what looks like a spectral monarch butterfly and then flutters away. He asks you to wait and a few minutes later he suddenly turns his head as if he heard something. He then waves you over. "The mage I sent your request to is an instructor here by the name of Bryon Exley. He would like to speak with you about your request. This does not mean he will accept the commission. Follow this light and it will lead you to the classroom he is currently in." A small orb of light blue light. It starts moving down the hall.

OOC: assuming you follow it.

After a climbing several flights of stairs and utterly losing your place since this building had way more halls, turns and wings than it looked like it had on the outside, or really had any right to, you find yourself led into a small class room. There is a large slate at the front of the room with various formulas and arcane symbols on it with various notes around explaining various technical points. There was a large magic circle carved into the stone floor and there were several slate tables with chairs next to them. Each of the tables had several small magic circles carved into them. Standing next to the Slate at the front of the room is a 30ish year old male human wearing a plain and practical brown robe. At the two tables nearest the slate are 6 students. 3 to a table.

"Hello. I am Bryon Exley. I heard you have an interesting and unusual request."

Re: Festival Day 3: Afternoon.
 At the Smiths's

the young apprentice assists Draz'gar in taking off his old breastplate and putting on the new one. He then walks away with drazgar's breastplate and the money he broght. He is gone for a couple minutes and then returns. He hands Drazgar a pouch containing 167 platinum pieces and 5 gold pieces. "Is there anything else you want or need?" The young man asks.

At the Academy

"The proposal specifically mentioned handy haver packs, but that's not a big deal." The mage turns his attention to the students "Can anyone simply explain the three methods of extra spacial storage?"

one of the students, A girl of about 16 answers "The first method, and most difficult, is the creation of a new space, often called a pocket dimension; with the storage item acting as both key and gate. The Second method is link the storage item to another plane. This is much easier than creating a pocket dimension, but it has it's own problems like the possibility of those items being disturbed or displaced by phenomenon on that plane or troublesome interactions with other items. The final method..."  Professor Exley interrupts her "requires a bit of explanation on the properties of space. I know you know it, but I wonder if any of your fellows can. How about it Albert?"

A male student also about 16, who was writing in a notebook. Looks up "We normally perceive 4 dimensions. 3 of space and one of time. A good representation of this is a thrown ball." He casts a spell and a ball of lights appears. He moves it towards the Slate. at certain intervals along it's path the ball flashes and leaves a glowing ball behind it. By the time it has finished along the path the ball as traveled there are 10 balls of light. "But just because this is what we perceive, doesn't mean that it is all that is there. The other dimensions are out of phase, a good way to think of it is Alternatively perpendicular to the three spacial dimensions we can perceive and thus interact with. The last method of "extra dimensional" storage modifies and wraps the space with in the container in such a way that it allows it to be perceived and interacted with. Thus there isn't really any extra space in the container, we are just now able to use the lost or unperceived space."

"Good. Generally almost all forms of extra-dimensional storage and a lot of spells which are commonly considered to create "non-dimensional" or Extra-dimensional spaces use that latter effect. The warping of that space to allow the use of the space that exists there that we normally cannot perceive or interact with more of less cuts it off from the rest of us outside that space. Which is why they often will not work inside other "extra-dimensional" spaces and why spells often cannot effect people or objects inside such spaces. Which means that we cannot link two bags of holding or handy haver packs or other such items. However if we used one of the other two methods we could. But those methods have their own issues and are many times more expensive. If I was to attempt to fulfill your request I would use the first method mentioned. Create a true pocket dimension and then use two items as both gates and keys to that dimension you are looking at about 35000 gold pieces for the cost and I would need about a year to complete the project."

Morien pondered what he'd learned for a moment. "That was quite an informative lecture. I am still quite interested in purchasing such an item, but it seems that I will need much more money than I had originally planned. I will return when I have earned more... but one last question before I go, if you do not mind.

Can a traditional bag of holding, or other such item, fit within a true pocket dimension? My primary interest in the item is rapid transit of goods."

"What do you mean by fit? You can bring a bag of holding into a true pocket dimension. The issue becomes that the nature of 'space' often tends to be different on other planes. For example Some don't have time or time flows differently there. Why does that matter? Change a few variables and then the Eldritch equation used to warp the space in the bag is no longer balanced and causes it to malfunction while there. It's the same reason why you can't nest bags of holding. A more cost effective way to move a small quantity of items quickly magically would be teleportation rings. Equip mages with bags of holding, have them create and attune to teleportation circles in the different cities and then have them move between locations. Or, if you could find someone who knows it, there is a modified gate spell that connects to locations on the same plane. Archibald knew such a spell, he might even have helped create it according to some rumors. That and teleportation rings are what connect this Academy with similar institutions around the world."

Re: Festival Day 3: Afternoon.
"Sounds like that's a 'no'. I don't need anything exploding inside of an artificially created space. Thing is, I need the items to be mobile... or at least one side of the item to be mobile. I suppose it doesn't matter terribly if one side is static... but, in any event, it seems I need more money to commission such a thing. I will return when I've gathered enough. Thank you for your time."

As he left, he searched for Safia. "I don't yet have enough money to buy what I need... I was wondering if... if perhaps..."

He struggled, as if it were difficult for him to actually bring himself to say it.

"...you could help me with something."

The word "help" was strained as though he had forced the word through a cheesecloth.

In reply to Morien (msg # 30):

At first Safia's brow knitted together as she sought to make sense of Morien's sudden awkwardness to speak. What had that blue orb he'd followed upstairs done to him? But then her brow suddenly arched as she realized what he had asked.

"Oh... Uh, yeah. Of course, Morien." She breathed a sigh of relief and flashed a sidelong smile up at him while she shrugged her pack off her shoulder to get to her funds. "So you're good then? Nothing funny happen on your way up those stairs? Or...anywhere else?" One question after another tumbled out, which was to be expected, really, considering she had been restricted to twirling her thumbs in the lobby while curiosity gnawed at her thoughts.

"So what are you buying?" She tossed her curiosity to Morien, lowering her tone near to a whisper. "Any chance it will help us to find out who murdered Jace?" Retrieving the small box of cash that Jace had willed to her, she handed it over to Morien. "Take whatever you need."

Moien shook his head. "N-no. That's not what I meant. I'm trying to procure a bag of holding or something similar that connects two bags to one space. It's a tangential matter, but I was thinking of hiring someone to hold one side of the bag while we carried the other. Then we could sell anything we happened to come across quickly... or buy something we desperately need while in the middle of a dungeon. I have someone in mind to hire... but..."

He paused awkwardly again. "The thing is that I'm not exactly welcome in the establishment where she currently works anymore and I didn't have any luck finding her home address at the hall of records."

"Oh. Well that would come in handy." Safia laughed good-naturedly and hefted her pack over her shoulder again. "Just point me in the right direction and I’ll see what I can do. Where does she work? What’s her name? Any place other than her work I might inquire of her whereabouts?" She turned toward the way out and tossed another question up askance to Morien. "Um...and what if I actually find her and not just her location? Should I speak on your behalf or ask her to meet you somewhere?"

Morien sighed. "Remember when we all split up to find leads on Jace's killer? Tamalie and I went to a shop with one of the knives for sale... to a place run by a man named Kyle Luther. She works as a clerk there. For the life of me I can't remember her name with all that's happened since. All I can remember is that she has a large family... don't ask.

Long story short, I lost my temper and said some things I probably shouldn't have so I'm not allowed back... but since then I've decided to hire someone that can run around town, haggle, and find the best prices for all the things we want to buy and sell.

If you can find her, that would be best. I'd like to bring her to the Monkey and talk to her there."

OOC: Aden will sit back, enjoy some tavern relaxation, and get a slight buzz, not drinking too much alcohol.

Will wait for the other party members to arrive.

If nothing happens / DM has nothing planned for the tavern, then at some point Aden will head out and start seeking out Sarah Keyes.

Will use Diplomacy to gather info and ask around about where she might be found.
