Leveling Up

And here we are! We're finally going to make some of you level up, so I think it warranted to explain in detail how that's going to work.

I might have said it in the past, but when you level up, you get to pick between one of these two options:

- 1 New Magnakai Disciplines and 1 Improvement on a previously known Discipline

- 4 Improvements on previously known disciplines

Now, as it happens, this possibility of choice isn't just here for flexibility, but also for one hidden reason; I apologize in advance because it was sneaky of me, but I wanted you to play naturally and I knew that it would be easier for you to do if you didn't knew.

Basically, I'm not going to let you pick whichever discipline you wanted out of the full block; I want your Discipline selection to develop organically from who your character is, not randomly or metagaming to keep things balanced - not that I think any of you ever would, but better be careful, right? :)

Anyway, the option of the 4 improvements was there to give you some way to progress should you not have done anything that would make it reasonable for your character to develop a new Discipline. Luckily, you all have managed to do something that open up the possibility for you to learn new Disciplines, so now that option is just there for those who want to make use of it.

That said, you should keep in mind that gaining four improvements it's quite big, especially for some disciplines. I would also like to point out that, if you look at the NPC, then Starfire would be the kind of person who went for a new Discipline each time he leveled up, whereas other characters who have less power - like Moon Shadow, Blue Snake, or Shining Peacock - took their time to actually master the disciplines by gaining improvements on them. So, keep that in mind! ^_^

So, as I said, I tricked you all a bit. However, to make myself forgiven, I added another leveling up mechanic, that of gaining plus (+) on certain Disciplines. Not all of you gained one, but those who did will know that it takes doing something extraordinary/unprecedented/highly unusual with one of your Disciplines.

These + can be spent to improve your improvements, so to speak. :P

As you might remember, some improvements have a * symbol next to them. This mean that you need to have already took that number of improvements before being able to gain that one. This symbolizes the greater difficulty of gaining the insight in one's discipline needed to learn it; however, the + count as such an insight.

So, you can spend your + as such:

+ = you can reduce the number of * from an improvement you are taking by 1 - effectively, you reduce the required improvements to take the one you selected by 1. Multiple + can be used on the same improvement to reduce the cost as much as one wants.

+++ = you can get an extra improvement in addition to the one(s) you should get from leveling up. You still need to met the requirements though - meaning, if you want to spend +++ to get an improvement that has a * symbol, without having any improvement in that discipline, you can't - unless you spend an additional + to reduce the requirements, of course!

Also, it should be clear, but + are specific to the discipline you gained them into - if you have ++ in weaponsmastery and + in psy-screen, for example, you cannot spend them all to get an extra improvement.

And that's all! Hopefully it makes everything clear, but if not, do not esitate to ask. I will discuss your leveling up personally via PM with each one of you; start thinking! :D
