Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

"What in the thousand hells!" Solomon calls out as the tendrils erupt from the ship.  He instinctively falls back.  Then he sets his jaw firmly in a look of determination.  "Pelor don't fail us now," he whispers to himself.  Whipping his head around to see where he is most needed, he moves to the middle of the ship, to take the most advantage of Pelor's blessing.

Once again he raises his left arm to the sky and the familiar pulse is emmitted, this time without curse or prayer.  The tentacles would have to wait.  It killed one of there own, so it was a 50/50 at this point.  The Draugr were 100% deadly.

He was itching to go toe to toe with the Captain in a test of weapon mettle; but he was doing more good with his area attacks.  Glory will be sung this day even if he isn't the one to fall the Captain.

"Fear not death or pain friends!  I will call for the god's aid to heal your wounds!  Strike now and fear not!"

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Kuldar sees the battle shifting dramatically with Solomon and Renard channeling their energy together. He decides his axe was not quite doing the job he had hoped for this battle, so he redoubled his efforts inspiring the crew, now that he could get so many Sailors at once with it. Meanwhile Kilgur seems to find a new target, being a Draugr that is currently engaging with one of the crew.

Seeing the tentacles come shooting out of the one ship, Temnir rushes to the side of the ship and doing some quick thinking hopes that they are more susceptible to fire than the draugr were or else there were likely going to be some problems very soon in some of the closer sailors near futures.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Yx'raul continues his attack on any draugr that gets too close, once again opening wounds in the chest of his newest victim. Elona, however, is caught off guard by the tendrilsand misses with both of her dagger strikes at the target in front of her. "Gozreh have mercy on us!" Talin, continuing to be useless, takes out his crossbow, fires a bolt at one of the few draugr still on a boarding ladder, and misses spectacularly. With his failure, he turns back to the scorpion and decides the bigger the projectile, the easier it will be to hit something.

"What in the thousand hells!" Solomon calls out as he instinctively moves back from the tendrils. "Pelor don't fail us now," he prays grasping his holy symbol, hoping to get the rest of the draugr out of the way so they could focus on this new threat. Light erupting from him for the third time in quick succession, more than half the remaining draugr burst into sparks of light and disintegrate on the spot. "Fear not death or pain friends!  I will call for the god's aid to heal your wounds!  Strike now and fear not!"

The draugr captain, seeing Felicia and Yx'razul charges the duo and begins swinging with his sword at Felicia, sliding the blade clean through her arm before yanking it back and taking another swing at Yx'razul though the eidolon bats the captain's sword arm away with his tail. The captain looks around to see the crew of the Lifeboat rallying at Solomon's cry, those that were injured pressing through their injuries and those who were on the defensive take the fight to their opponents. Some of the crew on the side of the Leaking Lifeboat where the tentacles appeared take the opportunity to charge the remaining draugr on the opposite side of the ship rather than stand to and become possible targets. Felicia, not one to go down easily shows her mettle once again and as the regains her composure from the blow, she takes the captain's distractedness and runs with it, slashing once across the captain's midsection and letting her inertia spin her around and using the extra force to cut jagged gashes across his face and neck, dropping him to his knees on the deck.

Renard, surrounded by comrades, puts his plan into motion, casting a spell that accentuates his features, puts a rich tone to his voice, and a slight glow seems to glint off of his skin as he finishes the interesting display. Seeming to find his synergy with his companion, Kuldar breaks back into his inspiring the crew, speaking of their great deeds and how they will be sung about. Kilgur in the meantime had moved to take out a draugr who seemed to be closing in on the back of his master though Solomon had done away with it moments before. This being the case, the boar turns back and swings his head at the boarding draugr, catching the undead in the ribs and ripping him off of the ladder and onto the deck where it lays crumpled.

Broadarm looks on with satisfaction with his crew until he sees the tentacles that had emerged from the other ship. Finding his mouth hanging open, she shakes his head and rushes over the the rail closest to the tentacles with Temnir hot on his heels, "Reckon that thing doesn't mind fire like the rest o' em?" Temnir, skidding to a stop on at the rail lets out a sadistic laugh, "Well there's one way to find out!" and even while he speaks, a glowing red ball no bigger than a gold piece begins swirling in his hand and as he lifts it over his head it begins to grow exponentially until it's as big as a good sized boulder at which point he hurls it towards the draugr ship. Even from 30 feet away the heat from the fireball is easily felt as it flies through the air, burns its way through the mast like a cobweb, and lands at the base of the tentacles with a resounding 'KA-BOOM!' and a flash of orange light.

It seems they were indeed vulnerable to fire as two of the tentacle bases char and snap, sending them falling half onto the boat, half into the ocean. The other two are badly burned but still connected and now lashing faster than ever. Two of them attempt to grab on to nearby crew members though only one succeeds, lifting the poor man into the air and whipping him around before he is able to wriggle free and lands with a hard thud on the deck from a fall of at least 15 feet. The man is alive though badly injured and it looks like at least one of his legs are broken though whether from the tentacle's grasp or the fall is unclear.

The remaining draugr crew continue attacking though their impact has not lessened as several crew members take new wounds although one draugr loses his grip on his weapon, and just as well since he was aiming at the dying crew member.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

While the crewmen near him were taking their licks and getting in their hits Renard began to weave yet another spell, its effects enhanced by his previous spell in an attempt to weaken the Draugr nearest to him.  The sudden rush of crewmen from the other side of the ship gave him a reason to look back the way they came from.  For the first time he saw the strange tentacles just as they are engulfed in flames from Temnir's fireball.  Seems like everything's under control over there.. he thought nonchalantly to himself.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Solomon keeps his promise.  With his hand still in the air, he chants.  This time from the golden charm of Pelor waves of golden energy flow outwards, rather than emit a violent pulse.  The light washing over the crew helps close wounds and ease their pain.

"Captain!  I trust the sails still work?  The enemies no longer have a crew or captain aboard their vessles.  How about you get us out of here?!  Or at least manuver us so we are no longer sandwiched between these damned ships!"

Yx'raul dashes across the ship, leaping on the draugr attacking the bow. Raznik looks at the dying sailor beside his minion and grins. "How about a meal Yx'raul? That patheti-NO!" Suddenly Raznik's face contorts into a mask of fear, the madness leaving his eyes. Looking around himself in apparent surprise, he pauses a moment before springing into action, casting a spell and stepping in to touch Yx'raul, whose maw begins to fill with electricity, bolts arcing between its teeth.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Spying a new target across of the ship, Yx'razul charges, tail lashing, giving him a dangerous looking, serpent-like swagger as he moves. Watching his eidolon cross the ship, Raznik grins as he approaches the dying sailor, "How about a meal Yx'raul? That patheti-NO!" As if a lightswitch had been flipped, Raznik's eyes go from furrowed in malicious pleasure to wide-eyed with fear and anxiety. Feeling a bit lightheaded he pauses for a second and Yx'razul spares him a look and a low growl that snaps him out of his reverie. Hustling over to the creature, Raznik las his hands on the beat's shoulder who's mouth begins to fill with arcing electricity. Wasting no time with his new ability, Yx'razul jumps into action against the draugr, effortlessly ripping its limbs from its torso and causing serious electrical burns to appear as the undead crumples to the deck where the eidolon continues to rip and tear.

Tralin and Plume both scan the horizon but feel that their talents are a bit unnecessary at this point and spend their time looking for any new threats, mostly keeping an eye on the second ship should any scary business happen with it as well. Elona on the other hand takes matters into her own hands. With the nearby draugr sent back to their graves, the kicks one off of the scorpion and wheels it around to face the writing and slightly crispy tentacles, firing the still loaded bolt, skewering one of the remaining tentacles about halfway through.

Solomon employs his power one again, this time for healing purposes, closing the wounds of the nearby sailors while looking towards the stern of the ship. "Captain!  I trust the sails still work?  The enemies no longer have a crew or captain aboard their vessles.  How about you get us out of here?!  Or at least manuver us so we are no longer sandwiched between these damned ships!" Broadarm nods and shuffles over to the wheel and calls out to the crew, "Any o' you not dyin or fighting, get them sails unfurled! It's time we be getting the hell out o' 'ere!" A handful of the crewmen hop to get the ship ready to move as the rest attempt to finish off the last 3 draugr near them and being rather successful.

Kuldar, having seen the crewman take his fall from the grasp of the tentacle moves closer to the downed man, "Gonna hafta meet me half-way their lad! Try moving just a wee bit closer." The sailor, though in considerable pain, manages to crawl a few feet to meet him as the bard's healing magic doesn't fully repair his leg, but sets the bone and at least numbs the pain enough for the man to stand on his own two feet, albeit a bit shakily. Kilgur, faced with the final draugr attempts to finish it but gets his tusk caught in some of the undead's ragged clothing and armor and doesn't get any real purchase to speak of. Felicia however, moving to his aid, swiped the undead across the face, killing it and sending its body into the water below.

Temnir aims one final spell at the remaining tentacles and as he points his ringed finger at the lashing mass of flesh, three purple skulls shoot out from his fingertip and slam into it's side, causing it to write in a death throw, slamming into the mast of the ship and breaking it in two before falling to the deck, motionless. The rest of the mass begins to decay quickly a the last tentacle falls and the undead ship visibly begins to sink. "Let's get the hell out of 'ere!" Broadarm shouts as the Leaking Lifeboat begins to make way.

Combat is effectively over. Congrats!

Solomon asks one of the crew men to light him a torch.  He then retrieves a bottle of oil and tosses is across to the remaining ship, so that it shatters mid-deck, near the mast.  With no crew left to extinquish the flames, the ship would slowly burn, lest the tentacles hidden within were smarter than they looked.

Now we're done with combat ;)

Solomon searches the ship, curious about the health of the crew.  If any were in immediate danger of dying he would heal them with his last blessing of the day; which causes the golden charm on his wrist to glow white hot.  He hisses, pulls it off, and rubs the burn around his wrist.  "Thank you, Pelor."  He had never before called upon Pelor's blessings so many times in one day.  It was nice to know where one's limits were.

Kuldar quickly makes his way over to the Sailor that had fallen earlier, bringing him to consciousness. "Tha' was a mess, but we came out good enough." He let out a heavy sigh of relief, this would make a grand tale. Once everything was sorted out, he'd take his time to heal anyone else up unless Solomon or Renard had any more of those healing lights left.

Sorry, all out of mass heals from me.

As Solomon made his rounds he noticed the troubled Raznik.  "You fought bravely from the heart my friend.  Though some of the things you were saying made us question the sanity of your mind.  You must sort out your troubles before you become a risk to us all, yes?"  His words seemed harsh, especially in Raznik's moment of weakness.  "My friend," he adds, patting Raznik on the shoulder.  Solomon cared for those he called friends, but he did not coddle them.  With the crew being seen too, Solomon disappears below deck to check on Cho'kobo.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

As the Leaking Lifeboat pulls away from the two ship, only the mine in tact mast becomes visible above the water of the one and as the other becomes lost in the fog, the orange and red glow of fire fills the air as well as a horrible smell of rotting flesh though it fades with distance as does the thicker fog though visibility is still only half a mile or so. Still aboard the ship are a handful of the draugr crewmen as well as the captain of one of the vessels who isn't quite dead yet though is on the verge of slipping back to the grave. The crew of the Lifeboat had set about to bringing the wounded the the base of the main mast for healing, making the ship ready for sailing again, and a few had the unfortunate duty of stripping the undead of valuables and dumping the bodies overboard. "Oy cap'n! What ya want us t' do with this one?" One of the surly dwarves decimates calls out, standing a safe distance away from the downed captain. Broada's brow furrows characteristically and he looks to some of the neater party members, "I say cut 'is throat n' send 'im t' the seabed. Do ye 'ave any use fer 'im?"

"If anyone else is in need of healing now's the time to let me know.  I won't have anyone dying on us now that we're out of that mess."  If more than one person steps forward for healing he will channel some healing energy for them.  If just one person comes forward he'll toss out a cure moderate/light wounds.  What he is more interested in, however, is the Draugr who are still kicking.  He steps forward to stop anyone from killing them outright, addressing the gathering group of sailors, "If we have any questions for them now's a good time for an interrogation.  Those last two spells I cast will do some good in loosening their tongues at least.  Assuming they CAN talk..."  To those Draugr still kicking Renard would look something like a fierce and formidable archon with a glowing aura of good around him.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Felicia walks over to Renard when he let's out his general call for those in need of healing. She shows him her arm, already partially healed by one of Solomon's healing bursts, "I could still use a bit of help if you have it to spare, but make sure those in more need are taken care of first. I can do without if I have too. It's not life threatening."

Raznik looks up at Solomon as he finished speaking. Anyone could see that nobody could be harder on Raznik than he is on himself. Nodding at the paladin's words, Raznik opens his mouth to speak, but holds his tongue, as Solomon makes his way below.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

Solomon comes back up after calming down the excited axe beak.  "Temnir might have questions for the Draugr captain," he says putting Temnir on the spot.  "If nothing else we may learn the name of he who controls the undead army; or perhaps what has become of Heldenburg."

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

At Renards declaration of healing, a small herd of the sailors hobble over sporting cuts, swollen eyes, and other, smaller injuries from the fight and are relieved to receive the healing ministrations. All but the most onjured among them have their wounds fully closes and many clasp Renard on the shoulder or give hom other well wishes as do they to Solomon before he goes to take care of business with Broadarm and Temnir. Broadarm nods at Solomon and looks expectantly at Temnir to deal with the draugr captain, the look plain on his face that he wants the last undead off his ship as quickly as possible. By all signs, he has had enough of this undead business and will be half to be done with it.

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

"There are plenty of things I'd like to know from the rot-spined bastard. Let's see if he'll cooperate...though somehow I doubt it..." walking up to the captain with the others crowding around behind him to listen to what the captain has to say. Temnir grabs the captain by the collar, face wrinkling at the smell of the putrid flesh, and drags him to the side of the boat with some difficulty. "Attacked the wrong ship I'm afraid buddy. If you value whatever it is you call a life you're going to have to offer up some serious information and you're going to have to do it right quick. Let's start with an easy one shall we?" he says with a mocking tone and shoves the captain so he's leaning over the side of the boat. "and In case you're wondering, no, I'm not stupid enough to let you free into the water," as he says this, his free hand begins to glow with a blue light and electricity starts arcing between his fingers. "Now then, what has become of Heldenburg?"

Re: Black Tide: Back to Heldenburg

The draugr looks at him blankly and opens his mouth as if to speak but all that comes out is another torrent of putrid smelling water and a low gurgling growl. There doesn't even seem to be any repetition of semblance of language to comprehend; just a guttural growl that conveys no meaning other than the desire to rid himself of the presence of the living.
