Could Eagle use his stone spell again to block the rock from falling. A decent plinth of stone should hold it in place...

That *might* work.

Re: OOC: Table Talk 2

I'm thinking we should send a scout ahead - Eagle could turn into a bat and Saliq could turn him invisible. InvisiBat presumably wouldn't set off a trap and would be better equipped to see what lies ahead than the rest of us.

Fine with me, but need to open door first.

On inas's idea could eagle just join the seams of the rock into the rest of the ceiling so that it's part of the ceiling?

Seems he could open the stone beside the rock, and we could simply avoid the entire thing...

Lol.

Apologies, my earlier post wasn't that clear (posting from a phone. . .). What I meant was whether Eagle could see through the windows into buildings to get a closer look at what might have caused so much devastation, or if there was anything nasty lurking in buildings etc.

I kind of figured as much. Not really sure how much exploration you intend on doing, but from a cursory examination, Eagle will find evidence of bodies outside of the city, not really inside.

Glancing through windows, etc. will reveal what looks like evidence of a prolonged pitched battle taking place within the city.

Re: OOC: Table Talk 2

Great. Intending my examination to be as cursory as seems safe to a bat fluttering around - what I want to establish as said bat if if there's any sign of whatever did for the dwarves now having taken resident inside the buildings, I guess Eagle would go as far as flying down streets/sitting on window ledges as long as it looks safe. This is all with a view to establishing it looks safe, in order to go and get the others so we can properly start to investigate (if we so choose)!

So happy for you to give me whatever information you see fit, and then return me to the party so we can take the next move (or I suppose have some giant monster swallow me whole with no warning if that's the consequence of my action. . .)

Eagle cannot speak while in animal form. As a bat, he may screech however :)

I know we are quite a while off 'establishing stronghold' level (which is Level 10 for an Illusionist) but Saliq is thinking long term... :)

Not that far off are we? (I'm already level 7!) but not sure Eagle would join you in a subterranean stronghold in the underdark. Doesn't seem entirely safe to me!

Re: OOC: Table Talk 2

Eagle did peak over the top of each of the structures. They weren't really open at the top, so it wasn't like a castle. It was more like stone blocks, so upon casual examination there did not appear to be entrances inside the fortresses via the top.

Re: OOC: Table Talk 2

Invisibility 10'Radius.

Explanation/Description: This spell is essentially the same as invisibility
(4.v.). Those affected by it cannot see each other. Those affected creatures
which attack negate the invisibility only with respect to themselves, not
others made invisible, unless the spell recipient causes the spell to be
broken.

NOTE: If you assume each person needs a personal radius of 3', you could get close to (or maybe a little more than) thirty people within the spells area of affect.

Huh... My copy of OSRIC says:

OSRIC:
This spell operates as does the invisibility spell, but affects all creatures within 10 ft of the recipient at the time the fi nal words of the spell are uttered. If the creature upon which the spell was cast makes an attack, the attack will negate the invisibility of all the others. However, if one of the creatures affected by the spell’s radius (not the direct recipient) attacks, the invisibility only of that one creature is negated thereby. In order to remain invisible, those who were made invisible by virtue of the spell’s radius must remain within 10 ft of the creature upon whom the spell is centred. All creatures affected can see each other.

Not sure what OSRIC is. I'm looking in the 1st. ed. Players Handbook. Mind you, I like your version much better...

OSRIC (http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/a1.html) is essentially a SRD of AD&D 1st edition, which I've been using for convience since I was under the impression it was identical to AD&D just with the serial numbers filed off.

Looks like it isn't... dang. :(

Wow, very cool. It is possible they tweaked a few things for ease of play, or based on their home rule sets. It's up the DM of course, but I like the 'we see each other' version...

Yeah. OSRIC is pretty close but there are some minor differences here or there, as is evidenced by this spell discrepancy.

Out of curiosity, how many of you have access to 1st edition AD&D PHBs?

I do too, which is what I think we'll use. I just fact-checked with my wife, who is a big Harry Potter fan. When the kids were under the invisibility cloak, they were able to see one another, while invisible; however as soon as they left the cloak, they could no longer see one another. So.... because Harry Potter.

I think the caster should be able to weave the spell such that everyone can see one another. And so it shall be for our game.
