Rath gave the roper a mighty hack, but the monster still poses a threat to all concerned.

Especially Inas, who is just moments away from being consumed whole!

Though what he can do is small, Ben slings away yet again...

This time he manages to hit the body of the beast, but the bullet bounces off the tough exterior without doing any damage.

Inas kicked hard and wrestled with the creature's tentacle. With all his strength he managed to free himself and scrambled to his feet, moving quickly out of the way. With his bow lying uselessly ipom the other side of the chamber he drew his sword and prepared to charge.

09:23, Today: Inas Eoinsson rolled 3 using 1d6 with rolls of 3. Escape the roper.

I assume that I cannot attack this turn. If I can then let me now and I will roll the dice.

More than anything Saliq's instincts told him to run but he couldn't abandon Inas.  After a few seconds of fateful hesitation the illusionist gave a while cry and charged the Rocky Cavern Prowler, the Jambiya Moonblade a silver arc as he slashed at it's rock like hide.

Sadly his attack went wild, glancing harmlessly off the monster's body.

OOC: 11:17, Today: Saliq Musfara rolled 6 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 5. Attack with Jambiya Moonblade.

Re: Don't Fear the Roper

The roper continues to draw Inas closer toward its mouth. The ranger is now just a few feet away from that dreadful, chomping maw. Yellow bile oozes between the creature's chomping, jagged maw, expectant for a juicy treat.

Meanwhile, Saliq ends up on the wrong side of one of the creature's flailing tentacles. The force of the blow knocks the illusionist back a few feet, though he is still standing. For now.

Inas is in trouble...

OOC: Eagle and Ben are currently hiding. Everyone else is gathered near the Roper. Inas WILL be devoured whole next round if the roper is not stopped. Saliq took 14 points of damage.

Norion, never a deeply religious man, feels a growing desperation as attack after attack fails on this monster and Inas is drawn ever closer to it maw,  he gives a silent a silent prayer,  "Moradin, seldom do I ask for anything of you, nor do much for you in return, but ever the Ironaxe clan has been steady with you, grant me some of their grace if I have none of my own to ask for, grant me heroes luck".  Swinging his blade slams against the side of the creatures hide and for a moment seems it will bounce away but then the hide gives way and the blade slices through, not a great slash but maybe enough to buy Inas more time.

Re: Don't Fear the Roper

Norion cuts down the roper just moments before Inas would have been dragged into the monster's chomping maw. The roper stirs for a few moments, its tentacles flitting about wildly, before it comes to a final resting position, lifeless an grotesque.

The chamber becomes quiet now, the chaos having passed.

Re: Don't Fear the Roper

Cautiously creeping from his hiding place, Ben slowly approaches the dead Roper, and gives it a hearty kick in the eyeball along with a short but creative string of profanity.

"Hey, if this thing eats people whole, like it looked it was about to, I'll be it's got some goodies inside. Think we can get it open?" he asks the others.

Re: Don't Fear the Roper

Inas dragged himself back to his feet, his heart thumping. Moments before he had been doomed to die, a mere snack for this hideous beast. He approached Norion, and clapped him on the shoulder. "I owe you my life, stone brother. I am in your debt."

As Ben began cursing in a quite creative manner, he retrieved his bow and searched for his spent arrows to see if they were still useable. When Ben enquired about butchering the beast he waved a hand in the air. "Feel free to try. I will gather my wits awhile if you don't mind."

OOC - I fired two arrows, are they still useable?

Also, does my strength return now that I am not bound by the Roper, or am I still weaker?

"What now?" Saliq questioned.  The illusionist seemed uncharestically downcast despite their victory over such a foe, perhaps because he had been completely unable to participate in any meaningful way.

"Rest and then withdraw in the morning?"  He glanced uneasily at the doors.  "That thing nearly destroyed us - we're in no state to handle any fresh horror."

Re: Don't Fear the Roper

"Lucky to be alive," Rath mutters, glaring at the dead monster, ready to poke it again if it starts to writhe. "Unlucky to be almost dead. But Fortune's Coin keeps spinning." He smirks. "For us, anyway."

Rath glances uneasily at the big door. To the henchmen, he says, "Grab your javelins, boys. Expect you'll need them." Rath winces, looking over Bruno's battered form. "Hang in there. We'll get you out of here ... once Ironaxe hacks this thing open so Ben can clean out its gizzard."

When it's time, Rath volunteers to lead the climb back out of this death chamber. He intends to drop a rope and brace it from above, to keep anyone else from falling, especially those who were weakened by the roper. "Anyone have some rope?" he asks, after checking his own gear with some frustration.

'Here I am my friend,' Eagle says as he emerges from the shadows having just transformed himself back into human form. 'At the moment all seemed lost, I channelled Melora's grace and transformed into a chameleon. I am grievously injured though, and retained that form until the immediate danger had passed.'

Eagle looks around. 'Do we want to explore this place further, or should we try to seal the door and contact the lizard-men that their home is now safer? I could work some magic to help the healing process, and if we want to go further into this accursed place perhaps we should rest here? I would much prefer to be under the sky though.'

OOC: Think we should definitely rest here if we are going further, otherwise we should get the hell out of dodge! BTW, am I right in thinking the door is stone? If so Eagle could probably glue it together with the frame using a stone shape spell!

Norion looks almost surprised as the creature falls.  "Tis no debt mah friend, Inas, you've more than paid tha' debt.  Yes, let's chop this thing ta peices, make good and sure it won't come back to haunt us."

Norion will use his great axe to chop the thing into manageable chunks.

"Ah seem ta remember that we 'ave someone that can shape stone, could it be used ta seal that stone door fused solid ta the wall.  If so, we'd seem pretty safe here with the only other access down tha' shaft.  With those manticores having put the fear into most everything, I doubt anything will be coming to this demonstone from above for some time"

Rath grunts. At first, the idea of camping here seemed like the talk of lunatics; but he had forgotten the power Eagle had over stone itself, and with a proper seal on the door, Rath is more than content to break here to regain strength. He grabs a torch and gives the chamber a thorough going-over, to ensure as far as he is able that none of the other rocky formations here are monsters in hiding.
