Re: OOC: Table Talk

Sularius Alariel:
Hey DM, almost finished but have one question.

Are you allowing the optional weapon specialization and double weapon specialization rules listed under the fighter.

Hmm. I don't really have any strong feelings on this issue. Pros and Cons either way. Let's do this:

We'll allow single specialization for 1st level fighters. Maybe double specialization will be available at a higher level, like maybe when you next earn a weapon proficiency (3rd level, right?).

Something to look forward to...if you survive.

Re: OOC: Table Talk

Okay, so the final cast is as follows:

Ben - Human Thief
Hestilan - Human Magic-User
Norion Ironaxe - Dwarf Fighter
Ravick - Elf Thief
Saliq - Human Illusionist
Sularius - Elf Fighter/Magic-User

Though certainly not the "classic" adventuring group composition because it is missing a cleric, we'll see how it goes. Worse case scenario the group will suffer the inglorious fate that many of the PC parties of my youth endured: TPK.

We'll have fun in he process!

On a side note, character selection was very difficult. There were so many great character pitches to choose from. I had not expected such enthusiastic response to this game ad.

Thanks for that.

Now...get those character sheets posted if you haven't done so. We get started as soon as all sheets are posted *nudge nudge*

Re: OOC: Table Talk

Just a thought.  Since we already have a thief in the party, I'll gladly make a cleric, if that will help the group.  I never play clerics, so it would be a nice change of pace to he honest.  I'm not too deeply into my character sheet.

That works for me...you might be able to recycle some of Ravick's character elements and just have him be a Cleric instead, or you could develop a whole new persona.

In reply to DM Storm (msg #32):

Yeah,

I'll make him a half-elven cleric - a follower of Avandra.

Re: OOC: Table Talk

Hi everyone! My name is Erik and I'll be playing your dwarf for this adventure. I'm 42 years old, living in California and enjoying being in school once again. I've played rpgs for the past 30 years and like many of the old timers out there, I got my start with 1st Edition Dungeons and Dragons. I've played each incarnation except 4th Edition and have shelves of books in my library to show for it.

My character Norion won't mind if you feel the need to make fun at his expense. He certainly hasn't made his clan very proud of him yet. He isn't a bad sort. He just hasn't made the best of decisions lately.

The dice seem to be a little worn out by the workout yall gave them:
quote:
19:55, Today: Norion Ironaxe rolled 11 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only.
19:55, Today: Norion Ironaxe rolled 10 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only.
19:55, Today: Norion Ironaxe rolled 14 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only.
19:55, Today: Norion Ironaxe rolled 8 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only.
19:55, Today: Norion Ironaxe rolled 15 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only.
19:55, Today: Norion Ironaxe rolled 11 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only.

Thanks for letting me join your game! Just point me in the right direction from time to time and we'll get along just fine.

EDIT: I finished my character sheet, apart from skills. Is there a table for these or is it based on character background?

I am originally from CA as well: San Fernando Valley.

No table. Just based on your background. Just an extra feature to clue me in to something unique about your character. It's deliberately vague to give you guys room to flex your creative muscles.

I've added Foraging and Fast Talk as skills, as Ben strikes me as the kind of guy who lives day-to-day by relying on his wits to get what he wants for free instead of using cold hard cash.

I used to live in Canoga Park as a kid (age 7-11). Two different places. 1. Apartment right across the street from Lanark Park. 2. Right across the street from Welby Way Elementary. I have very fond memories of Canoga Park. I spent more time living in the East Valley though (Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Sun Valley). It's probably much different now. Haven't been back home in like 15 years.

Re: OOC: Table Talk

Okay. It looks like 4 of 6 you have complete character sheets. Please finish up your sheet if you haven't done so already.

***

It's going to be very interesting running a D&D game without so many rules to worry about. I have ran two 4e D&D campaign games via RPoL over the past two years. On just ended two weeks ago and the other will be wrapping up shortly. I really enjoy 4e but it is a chore to DM via PbP. Just so many moving pieces to track at any one time.

So this game will be a somewhat of a break as the gameplay is relatively simple. I had debated about running a Basic D&D game, but that was *too* simple. Besides, I never really cared for races as class. It's not a deal breaker for me (I play in a Basic D&D game here on RPoL), but I think AD&D offers more choices for the DM and Player.

At any rate, I am rambling. So, umm, yeah, get those sheets posted :)

Being sick sucks. I can definitely empathize. There was a real nasty virus making the rounds here a few weeks ago. I was sick for like two weeks. Finally broke down and went to the doctor when my ears starting messing with me. I can handle mucus but when fluid gets in the ears...that's when I have to tap out.
