Started a pen and paper table top game yesterday! Been a long time. First time playing 3.5 outside of NWN. That's a lot of information! We had a great time though.

It's been about 3 1/2 years since I have played a face-to-face game. 3.5 is a good game, I enjoyed playing it, especially at low levels (levels 1-6 or so). It starts to become bit too for me complex at higher levels, but it's still fun.

Play by Web is a great way to play, in a lot of ways, but I'd forgotten the fun of the immediacy of being there face to face, and playing till two AM!

*Is jealous*

I like 3.5 - technically it is the only system I have significant tabletop time with - but I don't like the very mechanical way magic items are used and the assumption that when you are Level X you automatically are expected to wield magic item Y. Also the art in 1e/2e is better. :)

Re: Holidays

I was actually looking thru the 3.5 books, and thinking that same thing. Although one had a cover which was a different angle of the   cover the of the first ed. players handbook which was pretty cool. (And the original AD&D DMG had a horrible cover!)

I thought the art in 3.5 was pretty good. Sure it had some pieces that were not as nice as others, but overall, it was quality stuff.

The art styles changed a lot between editions. There were a lot of line drawings early on (e.g., Otus, Trampier, Sutherland), which eventually morphed to the pseudo-realistic and less cartoony 2nd edition art (probably best characterized by artists like Elmore).

The original 1e DMG, the one with the efreet and the City of Brass, is probably one of my favorite covers. I might like it for sentimental reasons though. As a kid, I had to scrape together $ to buy my own books. I was able to buy the PHB and MM, but could not afford the DMG. One day I was walking home from school (I spent all my bus money) and no kidding, I passed by a bus stop where there was a 1e DMG just sitting on an empty bench!

Looked around. Nobody was around. I snatched that sucker up, hid it in my backpack for a few blocks. Finally, I pulled it out and thumbed through it while walking home.

Re: Holidays

DAMMIT! I knew I would catch up with the guy who stole my DMG!!!

hehehe...

I actually bough my PHB and DMG the day they hit the market. The didn't even have the grey scale that made reading charts so much better. I actually had the original god book with the Chthulu mythos, before they were ordered to drop it.

Re: Holidays

I didn't steal it. Clearly whoever left it there wasn't using it. Why else would one leave a perfectly good DMG sitting on a bus bench? :)

I think one of the other reasons that cover was always so cool to me was because it was so different than the PHB and MM. I bought my books in 1984, and at that time, the current PHB printing had the wizard cover (not the demon god one) and the MM was the red dragon and pegasus  (not the crappy dungeon ecology one....that was a crappy cover!).

One of my friends had the original deities and demigods. Heh....we used that book like an extension of the MM. We would randomly flip to a certain page and say, "let's see if we can kill Odin!", then take our munchkin character and proceed to mop the floor with their bloody carcass.

Ahh...deicide...fun times!

Eagle:
A flicker of an idea starts to formulate itself in Eagle's mind. . . But what would happen if there are more lizard men down the right corridor who haven't yet been alerted to our presence. . . But before it can coalesce into a cogent thought he sees Aldo and Saliq on the move, and decides to banish any conscious articulation, lest it slows him down. He then follows the others down the corridor on the right.

Shhh! Stop giving him ideas!

Re: Holidays

Just want to make sure I understand what you guys intend to do.

Lizard-men disappeared into the corridor shown at E12. Your plan is to move up the corridor indicated at D15/16, and possibly catch them from the other side (assuming they connect?)

Norion hits AC5 on a 13, therefore your attack hit. Go ahead and roll damage.
