Likewise, Duvall's attack will hit, but please roll init so we know when your attack goes off.

Gotta love THAC0. I had to look up the rules again to remind myself if a high number was good or bad for initiative.

I updated the PC stat tracker to list your to-Hit numbers, so that should help you determine whether you hit or not.

I am not sure how 1st edition by the book (BTB) initiative rules go (BTB combat was always too complicated for my tastes, so I never used them), but here, high goes first.

Re: Holidays

Hey, good news! I just realised I never rolled extra hit points when I levelled up over the break. So I took the liberty of rolling them now. And for once the dice roller didn't realise it was Eagle rolling, I think.

So, here are 8 shiny new hit points - just in time by the look of it!

19:59, Today: Eagle rolled 8 using 1d8. level four hits points.

EDIT. Hey, rather disappointing news! Just went to edit my character sheet, and instead of the 19 hit points showing in the game thread, it says 25. Which rather suggests I did roll hit points, and got a 6 rather than an 8 sometime earlier. Still I won't grumble with that! DM, let me know which of my figures you want to take, and we can try and reconcile records accordingly!

It's not like dice rolls are exactly a rare commodity...  ;)

Re: HP

It's no problem - I won't grumble with a 6 rather than an 8!

And looks like the dice roller has given me some instant karma with the natural 20 on Eagle's attack - I think that might be the first time he's managed a successful attack roll in his entire adventuring career - it's impressive that he's 4th level already!

LEVEL-UP!

Wow! BIG score against that water weird serpent!

Congrats to Ben, Duvall, Norion, Rath, and Saliq...You all gained a level!

Go ahead and level up your characters, roll hit points, and make necessary adjustments to your character sheets.

The only one who did not earn a level is Eagle; however he is pretty close.

It's been 8 days since Duvall last logged in. Hopefully we have not lost him. I will give him a couple more days to surface before I look for a replacement.

Phew. :) Can't wait til next level when I start getting 3rd level spells.  Which reminds me I really need to start tracking down potential sources of Illusionist magic so I can beef up the number of spells I know.

You get to select one spell every time you level up. This represents your continued magical research. But yeah, you can also look at purchasing scrolls in Stormhaven with your earnings.

I must say your approach to xp in this game is fun - I've been playing in another rpol dungeon crawl for the best part of two-years, and I'm still second level in it! If he survives another couple of monsters Eagle will be 5th level in no time!

Re Duvall - 8 days isn't very long for rpol absence, is it?

Re: LEVEL-UP!

In reply to Eagle (msg # 947):

Thanks!

If I was trying to run this game using standard XP rules, only one player would have leveled up after a year of playing...which stinks as far as I am concerned. Stinks for the players and the DM. Players are stuck with the same bells and whistles and the DM is limited in monster/trap options.

PbP moves slow enough as is and that makes it tough to keep players engaged. By speeding up the leveling process, we get to move quickly through all phases of the game rather than being stuck with 1st level characters for a full year.

If you think about it, in a tabletop game, after a year of playing your characters would probably be about 4th to 5th level...so this method simulates that pretty well. We just don't have to slog through 20 encounters with kobolds to reach the same place ;)

***

It's been 11 days with no log-in attempts and no "heads-up" message letting us know he would be away. This, coupled with the fact that he is a new player to the group is reason for concern that the player might have disappeared, permanently.
