OOC:  To clarify, Sword's saying no baddies are on Level 2 anymore?

If so, Osc will fly up the elevator shaft & possibly give a friendly hero a lift?
Or he could take someone up thru the floor...?
No hurry b/c Osc is a ways down on the INIT table...

... so, Eddy moves up the ladder at 23" an action  How many actions till he gets to the 1st floor elevator doors, please? And are they open, or will they need to be persuaded apart?

OOC: I would suggest holding your actions and getting a lift from Oscillator otherwise you will not have enough movement to get down the corridor then up the ladder. You wouldn't be in until next turn doing that.

Onyx fires another blast of energy at the remaining soldier's head but it goes wide again in the back-and-forth of the conflict, scorching the wall next to the soldier. In the office Nightmare sees the flash of light from the blast but still hears nothing aside from a really loud ringing.

OOC: I *really* (REALLY) am starting to dislike the dice roller. Vosper you can definitely climb up the ladder and open the doors with your 1st action then you can take your second action to attack the lone soldier if you choose.

Dashing up the ladder, Vosper did her best to ignore the throbbing in her head and tossed open the door.  Spotting the guard, she loosed a dart at high speed.


07:36, Today: Vosper rolled 2 using 2d8 with rolls of 1,1. Velocity damage.
07:36, Today: Vosper rolled 7 using 1d6+3 with rolls of 4. HTH damage.
07:35, Today: Vosper rolled 3 using 1d20 with rolls of 3. Throwing dart, HTH +10 to hit.


OOC: And I finally hit, and then roll snake eyes for damage. :eyeroll:

OOC: Since Poco is holding to get a lift from Oscillator and there will be a few phases from his count before the pair are on the 1st level Vosper can take her action on 15 and I will likewise do the soldier's action. I will sum that up then Poco and Oscillator can use their saved actions. Once that is done I will sum that up and assuming the soldier is still standing Nightmare, Onyx, Oscillator, and Poco can use their remaining actions.

Vosper rushes up the ladder in a blur of speed, reaching the 1st level rapidly. She pries open the doors and sees Onyx engaged with another SMG-wielding soldier. The soldier is unscathed while Onyx is noticeably bleeding. Vosper enters the hall and whirls, flinging a dart at the soldier which hits him solidly and the blood seeping from the area shows it did penetrate his armor. She whirls again and sends another dart flying but this one goes wide and embeds itself in the wall. The soldiers turns slightly upon being struck and sends a round from his silenced pistol at Vosper, the rounds striking her solidly and dropping her to the ground unconscious. Moments later Oscillator emerges from the elevator shaft, dropping Poco to his feet. Both see the soldier and Onyx still standing (flying in Onyx's case) and Vosper bleeding on the ground as is another soldier. Nightmare is nowhere to be seen.

OOC: Vosper hits the soldier once, doing damage to him. She is struck once for 6 points, 3 of which is rolled into power (-3 power) and the other 3 from hit points reducing her to zero (-3 hp).

Alerted by the flash of energy in the hall, Nightmare pads to the door while pulling his bolas from his coat. Spinning the bolas as he approaches the door, he steps out into the hallway and lets fly at the soldier.

OOC: 23:25, Today: Nightmare rolled 3 using 1d20 with rolls of 3. to hit with bolas.
23:26, Today: Nightmare rolled 7,3 using 1d4+4,1d3 with rolls of 3,3. bolas damage.

Nightmare responds to the flashes of light in the hallway. He steps out and throws his bolas at the soldier who manages to see them coming out of the corner of his eye but not quite enough to avoid the hit. He grunts from the painful impact. Oscillator launches a blast of energy at the soldier which goes wide and scorches the wall next to the soldier. Poco rushes at the soldier, slashing with his claws but with the soldier moving to try and keep all targets in sight it does not connect. Fortunately the timing of Poco's attack lines the soldier up with Onyx who strikes him solidly with a blast of energy and the soldier is looking very battered and scorched at this point.

OOC: Nightmare, Oscillator, and Poco can take their final actions for this turn. Probably not likely the soldier will make it to the next turn (I hope).

Realizing that the soldier is now being overwhelmed, Nightmare goes on the offensive as he sprints to the soldier and throws a punch at him.

Despite knowing she can regen, Osc can't help it
& he flies to the side of Vosper to see if he can help her.

He makes sure she's breathing, then puts pressure where the bleeding is worst.

Oscillator stops to minister to Vosper's wounds, seeing her laying limp on the ground. Nightmare moves in to flank the remaining soldier but his punch goes wide. The soldier is unable to keep both Poco and Nightmare in front of him and Poco's slash just catches him, sending him into the wall then slumping to the ground bleeding. The corridor is quiet aside from the heavy breathing of the group. Nightmare cannot hear anything aside from loud ringing while Poco and Onyx are able to hear some through the ringing in their ears. Although unconscious, Vosper appears to be breathing normally and her wounds are already looking like they are starting to close.

OOC: So I basically had Nightmare and Poco coordinate actions to flank the soldier. That in addition to a +1 Merry Xmas-get-this-combat-done bonus allowed Poco's attack to hit, finishing the battle.

Seeing that the mayhem has stopped for a moment, Oscillator offers, "Perhaps we take a moment to regroup?"

He continued to survey the area with his motion sense.

"I apologize for offering erroneous information previously.  I believe one of the opposition utilized some form of consciousness manipulation on my psyche."

When Vosper is able to sit up on her own, he moves back from her.
"Your recuperative powers are amazing.  I was distressed about the severity of your injuries, but apparently you heal fast.  Most impressive."
He seemed uncomfortable touching her -- but he did it because she was injured so badly.
Despite all appearances of self-confidence, perhaps Oscillator is uncomfortable around attractive women?

OOC: Don't forget even with Regeneration once a person drops to zero hit points they have to regenerate to full before they wake up (normally people get a wake-up roll every hour).

Wrap-up:

After a few minutes Vosper's wounds are all closed, including the horrific one on her head, with not a scar to see. She wakes up and looks good as new, aside from the blood on her uniform. Searching the 1st level the group finds no other enemies and the situation remains silent. Radio silence is broken to inform Commander Barnes that the enemies have been routed and the base is secure. He replies that reinforcements are on their way in and should be expected within 60 minutes.

The group finds no sign of the Russian supers and their soldier allies as they search the remaining levels. On level 4 (the storage level) they find a skeleton crew of soldiers, scientists, and staff from both the installation and the facilities topside. They are all unharmed aside from a bit of a hangover-like effect from the sleeping agent used. Checking level 5 (the research level) the group finds that there is no "trapped" soldier although the room where he would have been trapped had a coded lock. Inside that room is a terminal that allows access to the research & testing room where the device is kept. The scientists point out the entire room is surrounded by a impenetrable energy field that needs to be deactivated by a specific code. Cutting off the power precipitously would have resulted in a self-destruct of the device and any stored data. The handful of scientists that possessed the code are all on leave, leading to the assumption that the Russians timed their raid poorly, possibly due to incomplete information. Had Oscillator allowed himself to be led down to the research level the woman probably would have tried to have him crack the code to access the device.

As stated, within 1 hour a substantial amount of soldiers arrive, including some with obviously advanced armor and weaponry, to secure the entire area. Commander Barnes expresses appreciation at the efforts of the group. He is somewhat disappointed the villains got away, but the group accomplished the primary and secondary mission goals; securing the technology and rescuing any hostages. From the descriptions the party gives of the pair of villains Commander Barnes is able to formulate a profile which will be ran through computers to get a specific match although the name "Shroud" is recognized by him. A flight is secured to transport the group back to their base.

OOC: All conversation can now go to the SMITE Base and HQ thread and I will be closing this one.

Everyone receives 740 xp for the soldiers defeated plus an additional 200 xp for accomplishing the stated mission goals.
