Oscillator suddenly remembers he may have left a Bunsen burner on in his lab.
"Oh shucks, I quite possibly have set the entire facility on fire ... again..."
and is so lost in his thinking that he completely misses -- (something)

The group makes its way towards the town; Poco slinking off alone while Nightmare and Vosper approach more directly. Oscillator and Onyx move in from the air. The soft glow of the lights is evident as twilight falls and there is a gentle breeze in the air.

As the group closes to within about 300 yards Onyx gets the sensation of being watched and jinks in flight while Oscillator flies along unconcerned at the moment. At that instant each is struck in the air by a bullet and the report is heard a moment later.

OOC: Both Onyx and Oscillator are struck for 13 damage. I did take into account both the vibratory and magnetic defenses as well as Onyx's evasion. Because of the vests you can each roll with the damage at double normal, so Onyx would take 1 hit point and 12 power and Oscillator would take 13 power.

Everyone can make a Detect Hidden roll at this point. (basically to spot the flash at the moment of fire)

   Onyx felt, or sensed, the bullet more than saw it, and spun with its force, thankful for the extra protection his vest lent him.  Still he could feel a small trickle of blood where the shot had grazed his arm.

   "Sheee..." He said softly, remembering that he shouldn't be too loud lest he attract more potential gunfire.

   His eyes searched for the source of the gun fire...but he just couldn't quite see where it had come from.

   Onyx continued dodging through the air, but descended to the earth to find some cover.  If he couldn't find any suitable, he would bend some metal into an appropriate form of cover.

Nightmare had continued to quietly walk towards the town when he heard the report. "That was too sharp to come from a muffler, it sounds like someone needs their timing fixed."
He takes another step or two, then realizes that Onyx and Oscillator appear to be suffering the aftereffects of an attack. He speaks to Vosper, saying, "I think I may want to leave the road."

   By the time Onyx got to the ground, he was little rattled and his reaction speed wasn't what it could have been.

The bullet tore through Oscillator's white coat and into the bulletproof vest -- and cleared his mind.  This was a serious firefight!

"These vests are an excellent addition to my combat potential!"

Oscillator's HART weapon begins to thrumb with a low pitch vibration "bbbzzzzzzz".
He engages the touch control which can re-arrange kinetic to potential energy.

OOC: Oscillator rolled INIT 25 using 1d10+15 with rolls of 10. INIT

First Action is activating "absorb" for next attack.

"Christ," Vosper breathed as the report echoed and two of their number took hits.  Fortunately non-lethal ones, but still.  Her speed kicked into overdrive as she scanned for the source of the shots.

Turn 1

The group scans about, hoping to have caught a glimpse of muzzle flash but no one had seen anything. All the group knows is the shots came from somewhere in the town ahead and that likely more shots are forthcoming...

Vosper zigs and zags along the ground as she approaches the town. An audible buzzing is heard as Oscillator tinkers with his HART in the air.

OOC: It is roughly 220" to the general store in the town. Until people get amongst the buildings there really isn't much out here to provide cover and only some small shrubs here and there for concealment.

Eddy had been bounding ahead* of the team for some time now ... since they had crested that final hill way back when.
And now he checked to see how close he was to the township.

Let's see if I can get this mechanically correct:
- call 'evade' at the beginning of my first action, then make a full run for the edge of town.
I am not using my multiple actions, as I wish to hold onto those PR

Slower than the others, but still at a respectable speed for a running human, Nightmare also begins to zig and zag his way towards the town, mumbling as he runs, "Scatter targets, require the enemy to expand his field of fire."

OOC: first action is evasion, full move (48") towards the town but at an (approximate) 30° angle to the path taken by Poco

The silence aside from the desert sounds is almost eerie as the sky continues to darken. Vosper arrives in the center of the town, looking about for any signs of life, a dust cloud in her wake. Poco moves to the edge of town, moving such that he makes himself a harder target. Nightmare likewise moves in on the town but is still a ways away, also moving carefully. From their brief initial observations there does not appear to be anyone moving around in town. This just seems completely wrong as even taking into account the holidays there should be some people moving around at this hour.

OOC: Poco and Vosper can both make detect hidden rolls please.

As the group continues to move towards (or in some cases are already inside) the town both Nightmare and Poco have something strike the ground near them with a pair of reports moments later. It seems their evasive movements have put the unknown gunmen's aim off, at least for the moment.

OOC: People can make Detect Hidden rolls once again.

Crouching in the shadows, Eddy was startled as the round spat up dirt nearby.
He quickly looked about, in the general direction that he guessed the bullet may have come from, but couldn't see any clue to the attackers location.

Moving quickly, he speed off through the shadows, in the hopes of throwing off the aim of his assailant ... and finding a better place to watch from.

As he zigs and zags toward the town, Nightmare notes a round whistling nearby. Rather than look at the eventual location of the bullet striking, he continues his jinking across the landscape. There is nothing he can do but close with the target, and he will do nothing else until he does so.

   Onyx again took up a zig-zagging pattern and shot off as fast as possible towards the city.

OOC:  Evade and fly towards the city!
