Re: Escape From the Lost City

In reply to Blake Renfield (msg # 184):

As they were leaving, Stanley caught up to them. "I should accompany you, yes?" The group moved through the jungle. Thomas in the lead, following the fairly clear trail, then Linus, Ken, Neva, Blake and Stanley. The rain continued to fall, then tapered off.

After 2 hours of tracking through the jungle, it was obvious that the native war party had travelled in a relatively straight line to the SW. They were apparently heading towards some forest-covered hills that rose out of the jungle floor. Their destination was marked by the glow of several bonfires, filtering through the trees and vines. They were about 200m from the site of the fires, which appeared to be on a slight plateau jutting from the near side of a small but steep-sided mountain.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

Ken waved at Blake to catch up and then nodded to Stanely.  "Absolutely come with us Stanley."  As they neared the camp fires Ken looked about.  "Perhaps we could approach from the mountain side to give us better cover and a better view of things."

Silently, the group circled around to the south, to start climbing the side of the mountain to the west for a better vantage point.

They were about halfway there when a hue and cry was raised from the site of the sacrifice.

In reply to GM (msg # 191):

Stanley stopped and listened at the hubbub. It seemed to be drawing closer

"They are excited about something... the prisoners have escaped! They are heading this way!"

They were about 100m away from what sounded like many of the natives, who were indeed closing on their position. The group was on a slight rise overlooking a clearing. There were tree trunks around and other cover around them.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

In reply to Ken Jenkins (msg # 193):

This was a relatively good spot for an ambush. One side of the clearing at the foot of the rise was bounded by a creek, and it became apparent a trail led alongside the stream.

The rise itself seemed to be the some kind of mostly-buried ruin, possibly from the Raynirjik era. There was a little cover in the form of fallen trees and tumbled stone blocks. From there they could form an "ambush line" and hit anyone coming along the trail from the side at about 15m range.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

In reply to GM (msg # 194):

Walker said nothing, but found a stable place to shoot from.  He sorted out his priorities.

First choice target was anyone too close to the escapees.
Second choice target was anyone ready to fire a ranged weapon at the escapees.
Third choice target was anyone with a ranged weapon.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

Ken arranged the others to set up a line ambush parallel to the trail.  He put the automatic or semi automatic weapons near the center to sweep up and down the trail while the single shot weapons were on the flanks.

OOC: Do we have the refugee from the camp who showed up to join us?  He had an SMG IIRC.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

They set up a "hasty ambush" line parallel to the trail: Thomas, Ken, Neva in the middle, Linus and then Stanley. Jaxxon was left back at the wrecked GEV, helping with the wounded and to construct a raft.

Within a minute, a woman came out of the jungle, running down the path. Due to the lack of light all they could tell was it was a human, not a native. There was only one person. They could also hear several pursuers in hot pursuit, but not yet in view.

Ken flicked a flashlight on and off quickly to provide the woman with some guidance on where to run but not shine down the path.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

In reply to Ken Jenkins (msg # 200):

Instantly, without replying Lorrain changed course and sprinted up the hill towards the light, or at least tried to. It was clear she was at the ragged edge of her endurance. The rise was covered in tall grass and low bushes, so she struggled up, starting to flag halfway. It was very uncertain she'd make it all the way up without some help.

It was clear if they opened up before she made it up the rise, Lorain would be directly in the line of fire.

Neva kept her eyes on her targets and patiently waited for Lorraine and Ken to get out of her line of fire.  She concentrated on her breathing so as not to get over excited and it affect her shot.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

Ken moved forward quickly down the slope despite the darkness and uneven terrain.  He reached Lorain and grasped her around the waist, half carrying her as he headed up the slope with her.  "Come on Lorain, we've got you.  Are you ok?  Where are the others?"

Perhaps it was the combination of carrying the exhausted woman or the darkness but he stumbled and staggered getting her up to cover, the delay perhaps proving fatal as the natives came in sight.

Re: Escape From the Lost City

Close to collapse, Lorain gasped, "it was... just Liisha... and I. She's... I don't know. Back. There."

"We're not gonna make it..."

She looked back, clutching Ken as he helped her along. It was clear that they wouldn't make the cover at the top of the rise. The angry tribals were going to come into view at any moment.

GM Note: As Ken and Lorrain are in the line of fire, you are best firing single aimed shots (regular fire). Range is 50m, the targets have no armour.

You can also use "panic fire", basically a rapid fire "mad minute" per Mercenary. This would empty your weapon's entire magazine. Single shot weapons would make 3 attacks, the autorifle would make 5 attacks. All attacks are at a DM of -2. If those on the firing line use rapid fire there is a chance of hitting Ken/Lorrain in the crossfire.

If Ken wants to fire, then he'll have to draw his weapon at an additional DM.
