The rear door was at the back on the left, as Dumaer had described it. They could see no out outside now as the night had gotten very cold.

Lorain shivered, bundling herself in her jacket.

"Are we going to cut through the fence, climb over or try to sneak through the gate?"

Re: Qarant

Ken watched as the tech came out of the van and took a smoke and then considered the situation.  "Thomas, keep an eye on the guards and the techs in the van.  Warn us of any movement and cover our exit if things go pear shaped."  He looked at Neva and Blake.  "We'll cut the wire and go into the back door.  Neva, you and Blake lead and Lorain and I will follow you in.  I want Lorain to see what is in there and decide what is important.  Got it?"

He moved forward and carefully cut the wire to prepare the way for Blake and Neva to lead,

Re: Qarant

The infiltrators made it across the gravel lot to the building silent as ghosts. Everything glowed green monochrome in the nightvision goggles. When they got to the side door, Neva found it locked.

Neva rolled her eyes.  For once couldn't somebody leave something unlocked?  Of course she knew the answer to that so she didn't say anything.  She looked at the lock, trusting in the others to keep a look out.

The lock looked easy enough to pick. It was mechanical, not high-security.

Neva got out her tools and set to trying to open the lock.  Picking it sounded so illegal so she preferred to just say open.

Blake puts his back to the building, silenced gun in both hands and scans the area, left/right, up/down.  He runs the guard scene thru his head, did they have any body armor on ??

Ken crouches against the wall on the other side of the door from Blake while Neva picks the lock.  He kept his eyes and ears alert for signs of guards or such.

Re: Qarant

The guards looked like they were dressed in cloth armour.

From where he was staying on overwatch at the rear of the compound, Thomas couldn't see anyone moving throughout the area.

The lock clicked under Neva's lockpicks and tension cam in less than a minute. Someone had oiled the hinges because it swung back into a darkened corridor without sound.

Kalamanaru's office was down the corridor, on the right,

Blake would probably be the last person in, after nudging the prof in.  Any obvious wires/cables running from the door ??  Security cameras ??

Re: Qarant

It did not look like the door had a security system. Neva checked for motion sensor or beam alarms and did not find any either. Not surprisingly the sheer remoteness of the dig site served to make Kalamanru and his Deasekhe allies overconfident.

Once Neva checked the door, they entered Kalamanru's office. By flashlight they quickly found the materials and maps Lorain needed.

Outside, Walker scanned the area. There was no one on site, no activity was visible.

Inside, Blake checked out the door and then exited. Walker picked them up without much problem in the dim starlight, although it would have helped if his rifle was equipped with a starlight or thermal scope.

The borrowed night-vision and the PRIS viewers confirmed there was no one else out there in the cool night. Carefully, they made their way back up to where the Grav APC was hidden in the foothills without incident.

"Back to your ship?"
