Thanks.  Just heard there is another round of layoffs/firings that is going to happen soon.  The state keeps cutting back fundage so we have to keep cutting back.

I know that feeling.  The UK government decided to reduce the Civil Service by 30% a few years ago, and they are working steadily towards  it.  The good news (for me personally) is that they won't come for my job until after I retire.

That is good news.  They never tell us ahead of time which jobs they will cut back.  They will go first, of course, for those who are close to retiring or seasonal layoffs.

It started about 4 years ago with each year being told to cut the budget anywhere from 15-30% and that was each Department.  This year they were told to do it again.

TBH, I half wish they would come for my job :)  I am old enough that I could probably get an early retirement and enhanced pension out of it.  Much cheaper than making a younger person redundant - and (for me at least) socially much more acceptable.

I would be like that if I could get things like early retirement options, etc.  My retirement looks like it will probably be at best half of what I'm making now.  Since I'm civil service (university clerical employee) we don't have things like enhanced pension etc.

Ahh -  I have moved about quite a lot and screwed up my pension plans.  TBH, I never really thought I would live long enough to draw it.  Still I have a small pension  from my years teaching, and will get another small pension from the Civil Service - and there will be a lump sum from an old private pension as well.  Together with the state pension and I will be OK -  noy good, but OK.

But my wife still has to work another 10-12 years though, so I can't really retire.  *grin* I always knew I should have married a girl my own age!  Or, better still,  a very rich one :)

I hope all goes well with the layoffs Neva.  I know that situation is very unsettling and makes one terribly nervous and unhappy.  I'll keep you in my prayers.

And Billy, definitely the life of a kept man with a rich wife is the way to go!

Man, it's always a drag to hear how education is often under siege in the USA and UK. (Not to mention the civil service and/or public worker unions, depending on the country.) Best of luck!

As well, at some point Vacc Suit skill was brought up? It does suffice as Zero-G Cbt.-0 if you have it at level-1. Otherwise it still covers all aspects of EVA activity both while on the surface and while spacewalking. Everyone has at least Vacc-Suit 0 even if not on your character sheet. As well you also have Gun Cbt. 0 for all hand and ranged weapons listed in Book 1 (except for archaic ones like bows and muskets).
