Billy nodded a greeting to Jeri and her gunner as they introduce Jedec to Blake.  Billy knew the man from aboard the ship.  Their shared interest in electronics and mechanic devices had given them a mutual interest.  "Hello, Jedec."

In reply to Billy (msg # 889):

I look around, amazed at how much they have managed to explore. It "seems" they have been at this a while, when for me this is all new. (Real world timeline joke)

Jedec faces the group " I'm a fringe space navigator, scouts 3 term, just wanted a job.. now I've stepped in it!" He turns to Billy "glad to see your ok, I was not even aware you were on a cutter, I was keeping to myself too much I guess, maybe I could have seen something coming if I had been paying attention."
Turning back to the group " feel like a scouts mission again!? Thought I had left all this crap behind! (Exasperated laugh)

Hello Jeri. Hi Lexi. How's that hunk of salvage coming along ?? Yeah, we had a shooting encounter, still working thru it. Leave it to good o'l Lucky to bring it back in several pieces ... I'm not sure how many times he flunked out of flight school.

Blake gives Jedec a Scout's welcome secret handshake. Getting ready for a survival school Scouting Hike, if you're interested. W With a Wink, Wink, Nod, Nod towards Ken. One of those mandatory "Everything that can and will go wrong, but even worse" trainings.

In reply to Blake Renfield (msg # 891):

What were these "attackers" you guy encountered using for weapons?  Sounds like things are pretty "native" around here.  I did manage to get my gear when I left I have a pistol and a blade. But I am willing to do whatever, Scout, work on the cutter, whatever - just no negotiating, im not the talky friendly type.

Dr. Chandragora, the technologist, answered, "the attackers were using primitive weapons. Spears, bows and arrows. Don't recall if they had metal knives. The villagers seem more sophisticated, if not by much."

"Err.  I stole one of the cutters when I realized the ship was being hijacked." Billy responds with a bit of a grimace.  "Among other things we discovered that I am not a very good pilot."

Reaching up to scratch the side of his face he adds, "I could do with getting out of this suit for a bit ...."

SO.. then tech is what we need. WE need to search this place for better tech than knives and sticks. Or we are going to be here a very long time. From the size of this place and its fabled nature, I am sure there must be active tech.. we just have to be careful and find it.

"Yep.  We should, at least, be able to understand the tech for that." Billy replies to Angus before turning back to Jedec.  "We know that some tech is still working.  The  lights work, the air is breathable, that  elevator still goes up and down, and we have detected a power source.  It is just a case of finding it.  But before that we need to see how much of the natives' language the computer can work out.  That might make life a bit easier."

So any sign of a terminal? interface panels? anything that could patch us into the operations of this "ship"?
Jedec begins to outfit himself - checks for tranq in his pistol, blade is slug. Hand computer, and LR communicator.

We have operational communication with the group?? Maybe Blake and I should at least scout.  Between our skills, we should be able to find something. Not sure how large or small we want various other parties? Is this a democracy? We have a structure? what we doing?

"A number of us  have been travelling as a group.  And probably a good job considering the way that the natives attacked us."

OOC:

We have been travelling with all the PCs and a few of the NPCs as one big exploration group.  This group that you have come forward with, is part of our supply line.  there have been all sorts of written things  some over different controls -  but not in a language that any of the PCs or language specialist NPCs can decipher.  We are her to get the computer to help with that.

Well I have pretty good electronics skills, I have my kit and my hand computer, which DR. wants to come along to help with translating things.. I think we should be talking less and moving more. my 2c

Re: Within the Asteroid

In reply to Jedec Istec (msg # 901):

Heinrich was one of the scientists. He was armed with an autorifle and looked like he knew how to use it.

"I can read some of the language. We've had previous samples recovered from other Sky Raider digs on planets over in Jungleblut. We found an untouched crypt on Mirayn with the remains of Sky Raiders inside. Some jewelry was recovered. That led us to look on Qarant. On Qarant was an ancient temple, and at the bottom of a deep shaft there was an armed small craft, around 200 tons. Not jump-capable. I found that the computer cores were salvageable. My team at the Institute for Interstellar Studies on Alzenei were able to decode and translate them by comparing some text files in their native language that also had some Vilani translations. An electronic "Rosetta Stone", of sorts! Spoken? That's another thing.

"Dr. Gilenkaar is working on translating the spoken language. In a day or so we should have enough data in our computer to simulate the entire spoken language, as we already know its structure from written information.

"We found a couple control rooms in the living complex you came through to get to the elevator that took you here. There were displays, but for this agricultural space. Ergo, those control rooms were for here. And as the environment here is still working, they are obviously still working. But there did not seem to be a computer datanet that would allow us access to any main control system. Should any still be functional."

Re: Within the Asteroid

In reply to Jedec Istec (msg # 904):

Lorain, the leader of at least the scientific portion of the expedition, provided some context of the inhabitants of the huge, ancient asteroid ship.

"We learned the Sky Raiders were originally a minor human race known by the Vilani as the "Loeskalth", originally from somewhere in Gushmege sector. They traded with and then eventually fought against the Ziru Sirka in the very earliest days of the First Imperium. They expanded rapidly and were capable of immense technical feats. In around -5000 The Ziru Sirka decided they were too dangerous and tried to assimilate them, lest they be conquered by the Loeskalth. It turned into a war of extermination. But the final phase saw the Loeskalth vanish from their home system. Now we know why. They converted this asteroid into a mother ship and took it across the Great Rift, heading in a Spinward direction. Sometimes using Jump, often travelling at sublight speeds using a Bussard ramjet. They eventually ended up here in Far Frontiers sector. Using this as a kind of massive mothership they raided many worlds through at least 3, maybe 4 subsectors of Far Frontiers. Many of the worlds here had been settled centuries earlier by the Vlazdhumecta, a minor human offshoot of the Zhodani that had and then lost the capability for interstellar travel. They were easy pickings for the Sky Raiders, as they became to be known. The crypt on Mirayn had started out as a communications vault or bunker before we believe the Sky Raiders abandoned the world.

"We are unsure why the Sky Raiders disappeared, but we believe that they split into two factions. One faction tried to settle the world of Qarant, but the colony failed. The massive "temple" pyramid had originally been the world's primary defence complex but it hadn't been used that way for centuries before being converted to ritual use. The small craft that was found there was at the bottom of what would have been a protected silo, although it too had eventually been used for some sort of ritual worship. The other faction may have survived here, on this ship. It seems likely, but these people will be the key."

She changed direction. "Still, I think you were going to have a look to see where the raiders came from? That's a good idea."

So who is with me to do some scouting?

Blake? Billy? Prof. Lorain, can you download any relevant information to my hand computer? Any key words or phrases, Dr. Chandragora that might help - ID important stuff, or a " we come in peace" message??

Jedec is standing facing the group with a "who's with me on this?" Look.

"Isn't that what we have been doing so far to get so far into the vessel?" Billy asks.  "Far enough in to be able to set up a forward camp?"

"And while I am far from an expert, I always thought scouting trips were meant to collect information,  which was then analysed  and used as a base the next set of explorations?  Well we have collected quite a bit of information, but now we need to give the scientists some time to analyse it?  Else how do you know where to scout next?  Or do you just want to head off at random?"

In reply to Billy (msg # 910):

Hey Bill, I am getting what your saying... and I have my communicator on.. both to let others know what we find and so they can tell us if there is anywhere specific or better to go, but we are a large group, I am sure we can each be working on what we do without a group of us just sitting around?

Seems to me we need to find TECH.. or people who have access to tech.. or we are not getting off this rock.

Jedec is more than willing to to wait for a better plan.. this is just one he is suggesting.
