"Sure, I can whip up a short lexicon. As well you can show me a picture by communicator and I might be able to translate it. Assuming you are in range of the repeaters we set up."

Re: Within the Asteroid

"Do we still have a good supply of repeaters, that will allow us to extend the network?  So far they just cover the route we have already explored." Billy asks "And which way are we heading?  We were heading, indirectly, for a power supply that we detected earlier.  Is that still the plan?  We also know there is another exit from the 'garden'  where we met the natives.  Are we intending to go back and talk to them?  And what about our captive from the other tribe?"

Re: Within the Asteroid

In reply to Billy (msg # 916):

Dr. Chandragora pointed out a large packing case that was open. Insider were racks of the golf ball-sized repeaters.

"We have several hundred of these small self-powered repeaters. Enough to cover at leas half the asteroid. We can cover more ground if we put them in a chain, probably go from one end to the other inside this thing. We've used about a half-dozen so fare."

"Excellent.  Do we have any sort of plan of the asteroid and the route we have taken so far?  Where does the power source we detected earlier fit?"

Linus scrounged up a piece of paper and sketeched as good a plan of their route so far as he could remember.

In reply to Billy (msg # 918):

"The neutrino scans indicated a four active fusion plants. There seems to be no logical distribution, that is, they are spread through the ship and not concentrated in Engineering. Wherever that is!

"Closest power source is about 500m past this chamber. That way."
She pointed at a part of the ceiling. It was obviously past the far side of the immense agricultural space.

I vote for the nearest fusion plant. Not that far away right now. Blake then notes a route via his inertial locator, approximate location of the plant.

Re: Within the Asteroid

"So we have the basis of a plan then?  Back through the 'garden', and out the other side?  Wasn't that where we thought the native attackers had gone? Do we go back to the village to say hello, and see if we can get a guide, or just trying to find the other exit ourselves?"

Billy says trying to put things together logically.  Just like engineering really, get the data and work out how to use it ....

The Vargr asteroid specialist pointed out, "while there could be a direct corridor our sensors couldn't probe this depth. Maybe if we had a military or Scout service densitometer we could! But for all we know from this side it's 500m solid nickle-iron substrate. Or not?"

Re: Within the Asteroid

Although I love this great group of "Indians" we have there, we need a Chief, we need to decide what to do and do it, sorry if I seem direct, I am not used to working in large groups, I am used to fending for myself and having to make decisions quickly and not questioning myself because that's my life. Can we come to a consensus here?

Jedec is speaking in a raised direct tone, not aggressive per say, but making sure everyone standing around can hear. His stance and movements are those of someone anxious to do "something"

"Last time I had a chief, we called him Captain - and he was in league with the pirates that took over the ship."  Billy says looking at Jedec.

"But most of these guys are here working for the scientists, and the scientist have been giving us information to make decisions with -  so we don't go off at half-cock without a plan in mind."

Re: Within the Asteroid

"Perhaps we should head back upstairs to the bio area, and decide what to do with our prisoner?  We might be able to get him, or the friendly natives, to show us the exit on the other side of 'The garden' as they called it, and then tray and track down the power source that Blake has marked the location  for?

Oh, and remembering to lay a trail of repeaters  on the way.  That way we can keep our hand computers up to date with any linguistic breakthroughs or other important news?"

Re: Within the Asteroid

A bit disappointed to be suiting up again so quickly, billy takes his place in the group heading up to the garden.  In the lift he leans up against a wall, waiting for it to grind its way to the garden station.  On the way to the village, he slots in towards the rear again, shotgun in hand just in case they were attacked again.

Nodding a greeting to the villagers as he enters the village, Billy joins the others in the hut with Jack and Gilenkaar.  "We're back ...." he says flatly.
