Yes. I am.

I had initially reached out to the players who had been involved the most.

Those who would like to return are interested in rebooting.

Re: OOC Chat
Hello all,

I am probably going to be remaking my character, and would like to discuss with you and maybe plan what we would be making and if we want / can have some background together. A lot of detail may not be needed but it can give us a bit of grounds to better start without the usual time spent to introductions.

Cheers,
Benigno.

Re: OOC Chat

Hello! Same here - I've been playin an alternate version of Shylae in another game, so I am changing my character as well. I was thinking of going with an elven warrior with a largely DEX-oriented build, but have yet to come up with a backstory so if we can collaborate on writing those up, I'd be happy to do it! ^_^

Speaking of which, GM, I found among my Pathfinder pdf the "Guide to Absalom" - would it be a good idea to read it for inspiration? Or would I risk spoilers and thus it's better not to use it?

There is no issue with reading the guide to Absalom. It will actually be a help to you as you will recognize places in the city.

Same here actually. I'm probably looking at one of the new Occult classes for this one.

As far as integrating backgrounds goes, I'm all for it.

As soon as we all iron out classes i'll get to putting out a request for players. I would like to make sure they compliment the ones you all choose and also fill needed roles.

I'm actually pretty sure I'm making Isa into a kineticist. I just need to figure out if I want to use an archetype and which element(s) I want to focus on.

Re: OOC Chat
I wasnt aware of these occult classes. What does it play like ? similar to a sorcerer ?.

Anyway, I was going to go for a dex build fighter (to try out the swashbuckler class, but since Celene is going for something similar, I can go for a Brawler, as I enjoy the flexibility it provides, and I think it goes well with the setting. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind a Bard at all, as I have been looking to make one for some time now.

Re: OOC Chat

If you want to go with a dex fighter yourself, Prak, I am willing to change my own character to something else - likely either arcane or divine support of some type. While I have the build worked out (a Bolt Ace + Swashbuckler multiclassed combination) I don't really have a character personality yet, so if you have a more solid idea, I can easily change my own character and make up something different.

Your choice, but really, changing my plans is not a problem for me. :)

Re: OOC Chat
No solid ideas, don't you worry. Stick to what you have, I am really easy on this... many classes I like, just a few I really don't like. :)

So we have a Dex build fighter/somethingarcane, and a pyrokinetic (which I take to be some kind of arcane caster ?)... and there is no one else ?... then I'd say the brawler is best fit, and depending on how many other players are coming in, we'd need a cleric and a rogue ?.

Re: OOC Chat

Well, I will have a ridicolously high DEX, a solid WIS, and Perception is a class skill to me - if we need somebody to find traps, I could take disable device; being unable to find magical traps would be a bother, but if I'm multiclassing anyway, adding in three levels of Unchained Rogue would only cost me 1 point of BAB.

Re: OOC Chat
So that's ranged combat that you will be doing for the most part ?.

I think I'll go with the brawler then, its not the best tank, but its a one size fits all kind of fighter, and I like that along with the manouvers.

Re: OOC Chat
The book actually released yesterday

The Occult classes use Psychic magic, a new brand. Instead of using Verbal and Somatic components they use emotional and thought components. This means they can cast without speaking or moving their hands but they can't cast while under any sort of emotional effect or when not thinking clearly. They can't provide the emotional component while under the effect of a non-harmless Emotion or Fear effect, so even if you Intimidate them they can't provide Emotional components. Thought components require a lot of focus so any concentration check involving a thought component goes at +10 unless the caster takes a move action before casting to centre him/herself

As for the classes, there are 6:
The Psychic: 9 spell levels spontaneous caster, Int based with Wis or Cha as secondary (depending on some class feature choices)
The Occultist: 6 spell level spontaneous caster with extremely restricted spell list. Uses implements in addition to the components mentioned above and only has spells from schools tied to his chosen implements. Also gets powers from the items by investing himself into them. Has a thing for magic circles.
The Mesmerist: The "Reverse Bard". Think Bard-like chassis (HD, skills, spell progression, weapon proficiencies) but a debuffer focused on mind affecting spells and effects. Can eventually affect mindless creatures and creatures normally immune to mind affecting spells with his effects. Also has some tricks to aid his allies directly.
The Medium: 4 spell levels spontaneous Cha based caster. Channels spirits into himself, gaining powers by letting those spirits influence him. There are 5 spirit types, all with a different focus (Caster offensive, Martial offense, defense, healing, buffing and trickery). Actually becomes a 6 lvl caster while channelling the caster offense or the healing spirit but his magic changes to arcane and divine respectively. Also quite adept at dealing with haunted locations.
The Spiritualist: 6 spell levels Wis based spontaneous caster. Has a Phantom companion, a bit like a Summoner's Eidolon or a Druid's animal companion but instead it's the spirit of a dead being that avoided going to the negative energy plane at the last moment and as such avoided joining the undead and is now an outsider. Represents a strong (mostly negative) emotion that initially sent it spiralling towards the negative energy plane, like hatred or fear (Devotion is the only "positive" emotion among them)

And then we have the Kineticist, which is an oddball as it isn't actually a caster at all. In fact it's a class that thrives on spell-like and supernatural abilities. It's main attack is the blast, which does scaling damage but can't be used for more than single attacks no matter your BAB. It requires Con for most class features and Dex to aim and for the DCs of more complicated blasts. Blasts are either physical or magical with physical blasts ignoring SR but needing to hit AC while magical blasts target Touch AC but are prone to SR.
The kineticist gets utility and infusion abilities based on their element. The infusion abilities alter his blasts and the utility abilities do what their name implies, provide utility options. He also has a mechanic to increase the power of his abilities at the cost of non-lethal damage to himself (this damage can only be healed by a full night's rest) named Burn.
Must choose an element at first level and which blast you get depends on that. Can choose elements again at 7 and 15 which means you can pick another one and learn to combine them (water+earth=mud) or pick them same and get better at that (Aether+Aether=Force).
The choice of element is quite a big part as each has there own niche:
Fire is damage focused but also gets quite a bit of mobility. They all do good damage, fire just has the highest concentrated output. Only does magic blasts on it's own
Water is more control focused and also has an option to heal. Obviously has aquatic mobility. Can be both magical (ice) and physical (water)
Air has the best mobility as well as a measure of control. Together with earth and aether the only ones that can affect multiple targets(beyond cone attacks) without combining elements. Has both physical(air) and magic(lightning) effects.
Earth most defensively focused. Has the most options to restrain targets but is limited to ground based effects for most utility. Purely physical(earth) but also able to pierce some DR by using metal instead of earth.
Aether, the telekineticist. A bit of a jack-of-all-trades. Starts out with a bit of everything and has the widest range among utility options. Basic blast is pure physical(throwing stuff) but if focused on can also magic blasts (force). Can also learn to throw his enemies.

I'm not sure which element I'll go for as of now but I am looking a specific archetype. The Elemental Acetic adds some monks to the Kineticist. They can infuse their fists with elemental power (to reduced effect) and flurry with it but also give up all options that require a ranged attack roll. Replaces Con for Wis for all but the damage of his blasts.
Other archetypes are the Blood Kineticist (think those from Avatar: the Last Airbender mixed with vampirism), the Elemental Annihilator(pure damage and destruction, no utility), the Kinetic Chirurgeon (healing focused, gets more paladin mercies than a paladin)  and the Overwhelming Soul (Cha based instead of Con but unable to use Burn and as such can't use all abilities. Also takes negative levels when forced to take Burn).

Re: OOC Chat
Heh, I am loving these two at least on their description The Mesmerist: The Medium:

Anyway, dear DM, I do not know how combat is going to be treated, and while I do not enjoy heavily complex systems, I also don't quite enjoy over-simplified ones, mostly if I am going for a build that revolves around being tactical, and not just dishing out damage. (Finding out initiative is not used after going for improved initiative and this kind of things are a bit of a cold water bucket :)

Please let me know in case you are planning on simplifying combat to change to a different class that may be fun with your combat system before building the character.

Thanks in advance, Benigno.

Re: OOC Chat
Combat will be largely the same as it would be table top.

I will most likely roll initiatives for you, I'll give one initiative to all enemies in like groups, if there is more than one type, and the rounds will run accordingly.

I generally create maps as it is easier for me to understand what is going on, who is where, and what is allowed.

I don't think you, Prak, ever really saw any of them for this game so I'll post one from another game for you to see. Isa and Shylae had dealt with them but that was years ago now.

It looks like we have a ranged/roguish character, a brawler, and a kineticist. I'll get a player's wanted thread going later today for 2-3 more players.

Re: OOC Chat

Yeah, the Occult classes were all well received during the playtests, from what I read - and they do look very ineresting, particularly considering they're Pathfinder's answers to as successful a system as psionics.

Anyway, Prak, you are right that I will be doing mainly ranged, but those few levels I'm getting in Swashbucker will give me some Switch-Hitter potential (which is necessary since it takes a few levels for the Bolt Ace to really come into its own strength), and I ought to have a pretty amazing AC between my DEX and a double dose of Nimble bonus, so supporting you in melee as necessary won't be too hard for me. I hope, at least. :)

Re: OOC Chat
The flavour of the Occult classes is, luckily, quite different from the Psionics. I think they managed to get the vibe of more 18th, 19th and early 20th century occultism. Think seances, spiritualism and Rasputin with a sprinkle of Lovecraft Mythos for for instance the Occultist and the Psychic.

As for my character's role, it will depend highly on which element(s) I go with and whether or not I grab an archetype and which one it will be (I like both the Elemental Ascetic and the Kinetic Chirurgeon). If I go with the latter archetype I'll start out as a Hydrokineticist as it's either that or Telekineticist in that case.

Do any of you have new names you want to go by?

I'll be starting to look for new players today. I will let them know we already have a Bolt Ace Swashbuckler, a Kineticist, and a Brawler; and that they will need to provide concepts to help fill roles missing and compliment these characters.

When you have more of a developed idea I'd like to see a few goals/hooks for each of your characters.

Re: OOC Chat
I assume we reroll stats for the new characters?

EDIT: As far as the character goes, I think I'll keep some parts of Isa for the new character, like the veneration of Sun Wukong.

Also decided her primary element will be earth, I'll see which secondary I pick when we get there.

Re: OOC Chat

So we get an Earthbender? That's awesome. :)

DM, when you say we can rearrange the stats, does that means we could also rebuild our stats, so long as we're using the same amount of points as we did then?

Also, as far as my concept go, I was thinking of going with the daughter of an elven priestess of Calistria who, having grown bored of her life in the temple, deiced to seek out her father, of whom she only knows that he was an elven adventurer who'd disappeared to continue his vojages shortly after she was conceived - but really, finding her father is at best a nebulous motivation, and she's really trying to find new ways to make her life exciting.

Could that work? And if anybody has ideas on hwo your characters could have met and befriened my character, let me know - I'm always willing to work things out. As for a new name... how about Ylea Serkan? Doesn't really mean anything, but it would greatly help me not to be running two Shylae at once in different games. :)
