Re: Out of Character Chat

I'm a tad lost as to who the lady carolina is (she's not in the RTJ thread list) and how she comes to be there.

Also, I did deliberately stay out of sight of all within the room...

Re: Out of Character Chat

Lady Carolina is the wife of Baron Bluestone, the ruler of Kallamehr. While you haven't met her IC yet Captain Jafar did mention her. She is also the beautiful woman you glimpsed. She was originally an NPC (which is why she isn't in the RTJ) but is now a PC in her own right.

While you haven't strictly entered the room yet there isn't really any space to hide and get a good view of what is happening on the first floor since Captain Jafar went fully through the trapdoor and into the room above you.

Re: Out of Character Chat

I never read Sorcery and I'm very glad, as the surprise won't be spoiled!
Anyway, I read Fighting Fantasy gamebooks around 25-30 years ago, so memories, although vivid, are a bit blurred...

Re: Out of Character Chat

Uh, Elstarir that isn't how attacks work.

You roll your Attack Strength (your SKILL + weapon skill + 2d6) then roll your opponent's Attack Strength (its SKILL + weapon skill, if any + 2d6). Whoever has the higher total wins that round and you roll for damage, then roll to see if armour negates any damage.

Re: Out of Character Chat

Its my age it takes a few smacks of the mace on the back of the head for the rules to set in now a days.

Just so I got tit completely When I roll to hit I roll the snake and the winner does the damage. Do you the GM then roll for the snake's turn and again the winner rolls the damage or is the roll I've posted cover both snake and PC attacks and all I have to do is roll again for both in the next turn

I promise I'll sit down and read the rules again tonight too :o)

Re: Out of Character Chat

Your roll covers both the snakes attacks and you. I'll post some descriptive text about the fight, then you do Round 2. :)

Generally when facing normal monsters without lots of special powers I think it works a lot faster to have the player do the rolls each round. Since the Giant Snake is 'merely' an huge man Elf eating snake I'll let you manage it.

My copy of Crown of Kings arrived from Amazon today. The book is the official Advanced Fighting Fantasy version of the Sorcery! gamebooks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorcery!) It's an interesting looking campaign but I'm not sure if I could run your characters through it, at least just yet since it takes place on another continent!

Any of you guys ever play through the Sorcery! books (The Shamutanti Hills; Khare: Cityport of Traps; The Seven Serpents and The Crown of Kings)? They were probably my favourite of the whole Fighting Fantasy line. Very different and very colourful.

Cool. I'm going with you arriving a little behind the others, probably after they have left since you took a moment to check the riddles.

You got 1 out of 3 btw. :)

Which was the silence one. I knew the knife one was wrong but thought the grain one was correct. hey ho - Vithrain is still young and learning and his mind is occupied with his brother's possible fate....

EDIT: Thinking on it, I should have gone with my first thought on the tree one.  The table one could have several different answers. Will work this into the IC thread at some point.

Sorry I didn't say his befre: I'm sure that we WILL find a way to make it work, maybe with some link-adventure in between, last but not least because you invested your money and time in this (for us).
Of course we'll have to see what happens with THIS adventure...

Re: Out of Character Chat

Okay, this is pretty much the first fight with a high possibility of a PC dying so I thought I'd talk a little bit about how I'd handle character death.

If your STAMINA drops to 0 you are unconcious and stand to lose 1 STAMINA point every round unless you successfully Test for Luck ("Guess it looked a lot worse than it was") or are stabilised by a character with the First Aid skill or healing magic (including a Potion of Stamina - I'm houseruling that another character can make an unconcious character swallow enough drops for it to take effect.)

If you reach -4 STAMINA you are dead. Generally in Allansia dead means dead so try to avoid that if possible.

(All of this nly applies to PCs btw - monsters on 0 STAMINA are dead as a very dead doornail.)

I don't want to lose my brother!

(I don't want to be an only child)

(He makes for a good scapegoat....)

(He does a good job of pretending to listen when I talk....who else would do that!?)

(Who else can I blame the farts on....?)

Actually Fighting Fantasy elves 'only' live for a couple of centuries or so. ;)

(Mind you considering the average human in Allansia is lucky to hit forty with disease, evil cults, orcs, monsters and regular old fashioned war going on hitting two hundred is pretty impressive.)
