Re: OOC

Day 2

We were in Steelport now, and it was time to deliver the Devon Goods to some guy that lived here. I challenged everyone on the beach and crushed them thoroughly, being rewarded with some Soft Soil and Soda Pop. Paltry tokens to appease me, but they will do for now. We then headed into the town proper, wandering around for a time. I stumbled upon a path that was blocked off by Team Magma, but happened to spy an Electrike in the grass. I caught it and aptly named it "Stole My Trike" before heading back into town.

There, I found Team Magma lined up to go inside some museum or another. They were obviously planning something, but the Powers That Be were not willing to let me stop them. Arceus does love to make Humans suffer so. I happened to find a large warehouse at this point, which was apparently where I needed to deliver my package to, but the man who was supposed to receive it was not present. Rather than leave it there, I was told to wander aimlessly until I found the clod myself to give him the package personally!

By now, the line into the museum was gone, and so I ventured inside. There, I was forced to pay $50 to enter the museum. No sooner had I entered than I had stumbled upon Team Magma once again. A sniveling worm who claimed that I had beaten him previously gave me a TM and scurried away with his tail between his legs, knowing full well what was about to happen. I cannot claim that all of them are idiots now.

I found the recipient of the package upstairs and no sooner had the goods turned hands than Team Magma had come to interfere. Their lives were forfeit. Their Pokemon were pathetic, but before I could finish the job some person called Maxie arrived to inexplicably tell me that Team Magma's goal was to expand the planet's natural landmass. I didn't care either to listen to the plan or to explain how stupid it sounded. I was interested only in burning down the entire museum with the morons trapped inside. Alas, they ran away too quickly, and so I was left with nothing to do except leave the museum.

At this point, I realized that Team Magma had likely ceased their barricade and traveled back to the road to discover that I was right. I spent some time there destroying the competition and claiming the wilderness as my own. That's when I spotted Brendan again. Him again...

I decided right then and there that I was to destroy him again, and so I captured an Oddish with the explicit purpose of destroying his Mudkip. I named it "Crab Grass" and started training. Soon, it was a Gloom, and I now had a Kadabra and Gyarados as well. Truly my victory would be glorious. Unfortunately, Oddishes are worthless and only know Absorb, so I was forced to destroy Marshstomp with Little Mac. Little Mac nearly died in the process -- a slight that shall not be forgotten. We are now in the next town, and preparing to challenge the next gym.

Re: OOC

So, assuming it survives to the endgame, I'm trying to figure out my endgame moveset for Roselia.

Giga Drain
Leech Seed
Magical Leaf
Synthesis

Another possible set would be.

Giga Drain
Ingrain/Leech Seed
Solar Beam
Sythesis

The second set would be particularly good if I had a Sunny Day user in my party. This would make Blaziken even more beastly as well, while hindering water-type moves used against him. Right now the only drawback would be that my Wingull would do half water damage, and eventually my Gyarados's Hydro Pump would be weaker as well.

Of course, there's also the type coverage setup..

Giga Drain (Grass)
Sludge Bomb (Poison)
Shadow Ball (Ghost)
Synthesis/Magical Leaf

Re: OOC

You need toxic on that move list. In my experience using toxi on your first turn as rosella cuts battle time in half.

Re: OOC

My personal thoughts would be.

Gigs drain
Ingrain
Toxic
Leech seed/magic leaf/ solar beam.

The idea is to dot damage to death.

Re: OOC

Hmm... Then what about these setups.

Delay Game Roselia

Giga Drain
Leech Seed
Toxic
Stun Spore

Sunny Day Roselia

Giga Drain
Toxic
Solarbeam
Synthesis

Type Coverage Roselia

Giga Drain
Sludge Bomb
Shadow Ball
Synthesis/Magical Leaf/Toxic

They each have advantages. Delay Game uses paralysis to halve enemy speed and have 50% full paralysis chances. Leech seed does 1/16 HP every round, plus Toxic's cumulative. If you open with Toxic, then Stun Spore, then Leech Seed, they'll take 1/16, then 2/16 and Stun Spore, then 4/16, then 5/16, and finally 6/16 for a 5 turn wipe. If the opponent deals decent damage through paralysis, a Miracle Seeded Giga Drain will have a power of 66 and restore decent HP. Alternatively, Giga Drain could be swapped out for Sludge Bomb, for a 30% poison chance, causing three stacking DOTs. This works out great on Pokemon that aren't Grass type or Steel type, since Grass is immune to Leech Seed and Steel is immune to Toxic.

Sunny Day has 1-turn Solarbeam for a devastating move, and Synthesis for 2/3 heal in Sunny Weather. Giga Drain stays for support heals and damage, while Toxic is the DOT. Roselia's Grass/Poison setup and poisoning ability make it a good support for Blaziken's Fire/Fighting. They are also both optimized for Sunny Weather fighting this way.

Toxic isn't strictly necessary with the Type Coverage setup, since Sludge Bomb can cause normal poison and bust out Shadow Ball to lower SpD. This build relies on Roselia's pumped up SpA. This build can deal super effective damage to Grass, Psychic, Ghost, Ground, Rock and Water. Giga Drain provides some survivability. The fourth pick could be Magical Leaf for a reliable hitting Grass move, Toxic for the DOT effect, or Synthesis for more survivability.

Re: OOC

Ingrain's a good move since it heals on time and has great synergy with leech seed (2/16 heal every round). But it makes it so Roselia can't be switched out or retreat, which might bite me in the ass in a permadeath run.

Also, I am currently stuck on the screen debating if I want Magical Leaf. I can't TM it later, so I really need to know if I should stick with it.

Re: OOC

Actually... Ingrain, Leech Seed and Leftovers would make for a 1/4 heal every round... That's pretty crazy.

Re: OOC

Oh, and if I really... really... really wanted to obsess over making an amazing Roselia, I could always breed with a Cacturne to get Spikes. A setup using Toxic, Leech Seed and triple Spikes would be devastating. 1/4 damage from triple spikes on a switch in, plus Toxic and Leech Seed would end up killing in 4 turns.

Status is a good way to go on Roselia, but if I was going to roll a status Roselia I'd have been better off EV training Defense or Speed...

Re: OOC

Day 3

I went to the next gym to challenge it, only to see Ralts kid arguing with his uncle about fighting the gym leader. He wasn't moving at all. He wanted to battle me to prove his strength, so I decided to placate him. His Ralts went down with a single blow from Filet-O-Fish. Pathetic. And it was his only Pokemon. Then he had the gall to say that being a good battler wasn't all it took to be a good trainer! What a loser. Doesn't he know that your worth as a trainer is directly measured by your prowess in battle?!

Anyway, I found out that the Gym Leader uses Electric-type Pokemon, and so I headed into the wild to find something with which I could brutally destroy him! In the process I found a Roselia and promptly caught it. His name is Kuja, and he shall replace that worthless Crab Grass. Grass types have a natural resistance to Electric moves, but it is not the ideal matchup that I was hoping for. At any rate, Kuja needs to grow stronger, and so I continue to ruthlessly slay wild and trained Pokemon alike in my search for power.

Ultimately, I failed to find any suitable Ground-type Pokemon, but Kuja had grown sufficiently powerful, so I took him to the gym. He crushed the competition, earning me my third badge. This journey is now nearly halfway over.

I like some of your Roselia builds, but I have a major problem with your sunny day build. Mainly being, it doesn't know sunny day.

As for advice on magic leaf... I can't help you. It seems to be a move that lasts among even higher tier pokemon, but I've never been much of a grass trainer.

Re: OOC

True, but is there really a point in teaching one pokemon a move that only lasts about 5 rounds for the good of two other pokemon?
