Re: OOC

Ah, what's the matter Hexus? Worried it's you? Or that it will be you next? Don't worry. I don't 'dunce' anyone I don't think can handle it. Anyway, your idea of Duncing is a little...long in the tooth. I merely gave demoralising encouragement.

But I already said I'm not saying the name, so retract your teeth.

Re: OOC

Well, I was hoping that someone would have had their skills done by now, but I think what I'll do is start you guys out with a Basic Training thread just to get used to this format. This will have a few benefits, and may encourage the finish of said skills.

Stand by, we'll start something within the next couple of days.

If you keep waiting for the slowest member of the herd it's not going to get rockin.

!st rule of parenthood, you've got to start so the poor bugga realises he's been left behind and is missing out, then the kid learns he has to lift his game.

Re: OOC

Okay Newbies, there's a new thread just for you guys. It's going to serve as our tutorial. We'll play it out and I'll give pointers within the thread. I've set the scene for you, so it's anyone's go.

Before you post, a couple of things please. Instead of clicking on [reply] in my post, hit the Post a Reply button at the bottom right of the window. This keeps things cleaner and helps with the flow. There's lesson 1.

Lesson two is: pick a color for your speech. Just so's you know, purple and red are already taken. Any time your character speaks, it should look something like this, including quotes: "Wouldn't be dead for quids, Love."

I encourage you to go back to the Rules and Guidelines notice to get a quick overview on how this should all go down.

Happy posting.

Re: OOC

Sorry for the delay in posts guys. I've been a little sick the last couple of days, and feeling kinda brainless (comments on this in the derogatory will get you no special favors). I'll post soon, probably tomorrow if all goes well. I'll be stuck in the office with bugger all to do, so there's a good chance I'll get something down.

Bummer.  That's 2 in as many months for you.  Is that to be thanked from having petri dishes with legs running around your house?

Actually, it's from the wife, who is coincidentally around many of said petri dishes every day. She gave it to me. Intentionally I think. Though this is mere speculation.

Re: OOC

Thanks amigo. Seems it'll take about a week from the advice of others going through it. I'm 3 days in now, and feeling a bit better, enough to move my fingers anyway and post, so I'll try to stay on top of it.

Re: OOC

Just a suggestion that I'd like to know if everybody has consensus on.... if GM wants a perception roll or an insight roll from a character... I think it is best if he simply rolls it himself and tells us the roll and the result....

That is faster... I have no objection to rolls being made for me... what do others think?

Re: OOC

In reply to Quiksit (msg # 72):

Especially in the RuneQuest system there are times for the GM to roll for the characters, but it's usually rare.  Those cases are when the character won't necessarily see the results right away, or because whatever their skill is involved in will produce results that belie the reality.

Here are some examples from the book when the GM might roll for a character (though, as with everything- final arbiter of decisions is the GM):

The character using the skill would have little or no way of
knowing how successful his skill attempt has been until it is
put to a practical test.

The skill’s outcome is not immediate.

Revealing the outcome of the Skill Test incrementally will
create a better sense of tension.

So basically for all other rolls, that's on us.  One last little opinion: I run my own game on RPoL as well and there's tons of work involved.  If I had to do every single roll for every character, it might start to seem like a job in very short order.  If everybody is mostly responsible for their own stuff, and I can just tell them the world's reaction to their efforts, I don't go insane.

That's just good science.  :)

Re: OOC

Thanks Chrono. Couldn't have said it myself. Well, maybe I could've, but we'll never know now. :)

There will be times when I'll roll for you to continue my description, and other times, most of the time, you'll roll. It's also much easier for you to check your CS rather than me checking up to 5 at a time. I did warn you that this game was rather skill based.

Just so you know, there will be less rolling in the actual game, but I want you to get used to the game mechanics and your character. At some point, I expect you'll be offering rolls and checks in your posts before I ask, taking initiative with your interactions.

But we'll see if anyone else has an opinion on this before I make a final call.
