Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

The ages passed.  Heroic deeds faded to dust, heroes turned into legends.  The stories of the Lord of the Forge faded from the minds of the creatures of the world long before the name of Bugrem Stonesinger faded from the land.  Crafting the energy of the Divine became something unfeasible before it became laughable until it was an idea that faded completely from the minds of people.  The fact that a mortal had crafted an artifact was beyond what the mind of a normal person could handle.

And so, the land changed.  Kings and emperors came and passed.  But, the story does not end.  With a blow struck for freedom against a tyrannical society.  For tyrannical societies are as common as grains of sand in a desert.  Stories never simply end.

They just take on a new beginning.

Trudging through the forest, cloaked figure crossed the trunk of a fallen tree and stopped, looking from one direction to another.  Reaching up, he pulled down his hood to reveal the ears that identified him as one of Elven blood, but the rest of his features were decided not what one commonly thought of as Elven.  Those of that long-lived race usually had hair of spun gold or chestnut--rare ones had white or silver.  But, this young elf's hair was jet black as if it was crafted from fine strands of obsidian.  Not only that but his features, while they retained the angular facial structure of those of the Elven race, was pale in pallor that seemed to lack the distinctive healthy appearance of one who was tied to all things natural.

The young elf had been fleeing for days without rest because of his appearance.  For decades, he had been viewed of as a black sheep in the Land of the Elven Kings.  An ill omen or curse.  Some even went so far as to say that he should be kept away from the holy tree Illendril from which all elves gained their energy for fear of whatever his curse was to infect the Tree of Life and cause the downfall of their whole civilization.  Needless to say, he had spent the greater part of his life searching for a cure for whatever it was that ailed him only to discover that he was not cursed at all.  But, the elves of the great kingdom would not listen to the one that they had viewed with such disdain their entire lives.

What his research did reveal was that there was more to their world than originally met the eye.  Because they would not trust him with weapons training, Talonrel had become a scholar, performing research into academic matters where it was more likely that some may not judge him by the color of his skin or hair.  It was wishful thinking, but he was well aware that while the elves could strip him of his clothing or items, they could not take away his intelligence or what he had learned.  And learn he did.  He caught the tail of something large--mortals had done great things before.  They had crafted works of wonders and beauty and pulled open the gates of the Gods.  They had even surpassed the wonders of the crafted works of the elven kingdom that the elves took so much pride in.  When he presented his findings to the elven court, the elven king had proclaimed him to most definitely be cursed, bringing upon the elves a vile calamity.  Not only that but he was charged with trying to become a usurper to the crown by giving them false information to control the elven empire with propaganda.  It had taken everything he had to flee.

However, he did not flee before contacting a source he had from another race.  A good deal of his information came from Joachim Hammerfell of the Order of Sato.  They were an order of humans that had guarded the secrets of the old world for generations upon generations until they no longer knew the details of what they were guarding any longer.  However, Talonrel knew that their whole existence seemed to imply that his theory was correct.  But, in order to prove that theory he had to survive.  So, he had arranged a meeting point with the order to escape the elven forests and find a new land on which to settle and explore the world.  Perhaps crack open the secrets that had been so tightly shut for so long that their hinges had rusted and fused completely.

To do this, Talonrel knew he would need the support of all the races he could find.  If his research and the Order of Sato's information was any indication, the secrets of the world were not possessed by any one race.  In fact, there were probably fragments locked away by all of the races.  And so, he would need to establish a new base of operations not only to perform his research in peace, but also to apply whatever they discovered into practice.  They would call this new place Mythstraisia, or 'The City of Myth's Rebirth' in the old elven tongue.  The city they created would be their place to test Talonrel's research for the betterment of all the races that chose to join them.

It was not long until the Order of Sato along with their two leaders constructed a few structures intertwined with the forest trees in a blend of both human and elven architecture--the first of many inter-species blended ideas to come.  Talonrel was more than willing to throw out the traditions of the elves in favor of whatever worked best.  It was the progress that he had always dreamed of having that was constantly stifled under the elven kingdom's grip.  However, he knew that he had been branded a usurper to the crown and needed to find as many allies as possible.  There was no way he could do this alone with the Order of Sato.  They needed to gather as many people as the could to transform the forest village into a fortified stronghold where they could live in peace.

The young elf knew that he was not the only one outcast from the elven kingdom.  There had once been a group of rangers that had been experts in archery and finesse that had once gone against the elven king because they had been ordered to wipe out a human village down to the children.  Upon finishing their mission they threw down their bows and vowed never to return to the elven kingdom again.  Talonrel knew that if he could find them they might be willing to work alongside him for the betterment of all.  After all, he was now branded a traitor as well, so who better to have as an ally than another group of people excommunicated by their own people?

While the Order of Sato began work on the workshop that Talonrel had designed that would suit their basic needs for crafting tools and construction, he and Joachim set off on a journey to the nearest city for clues as to where to find the Rangers of the Swift Arrow.  Rumor had it that they had long since integrated into a nearby human city and were living lives that had long forgotten the forest.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Learning the lay of the land in this new region was confounding.  Although not as expansive as his ancestral forested home, Talonrel wished he had an entire library just for this land at his disposal; and the time to contemplate it.  However, mouths did not provide food for themselves; and being an outcast meant working on a shorter timetable.

As you enter Moracku, Talonrel finds himself enamored with the massive size of this City.  Huge in the extreme, and with so many races living in a general harmony with one an other!  Meandering slowly and steadily through the streets you spy a quaint shop of leather-bound curiosities; pages upon pages filling the visible walls.  Resisting the urge to sidestep your true purpose, you make your way to the area of the market district less-than-affectionately known as: the meat market.  In a city like Moracku, where skill at arms is valued: sculpted, disciplined, and able-bodied warriors were a welcome site and were a commodity like any cattle or chattels.

Whilst other caravan merchants and the like sized-up a veritable horde of Orcs, your keen eyes detected a small band with the precise skill you needed: Elven Archers.  Though you had your mind set to make use of all available skills and knowledge: none could match the Elves in their capacity with a bow.  Hopefully, soon, you would have the bows to make the best possible use of that talent...

[ You achieve a significant success in conducting Diplomacy with Moracku (G9). ]
[ Talonrel and Joachim achieve a Significant Success. Assign 1 XP related to Diplomacy skill as you see fit. ]

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Having found the Rangers of the Swift Arrow, it had been difficult to convince them to join with the cause at first, but upon seeing that Talonrel was accompanied by a human, they realized that it was not another attempt at elven "diplomacy."  While they were enthusiastic about joining someone else who had realized that the corruption of the elven kingdom would lead to its downfall, long years away from their elven homeland had rusted their skills.  Even their equipment, so vaunted by those who were beholden to such things, had long since passed into the hands of others in exchange for coin to purchase food or lodgings.  It had been a difficult path for them once they had been exiled.  But, they made an invaluable part of the now growing Mythstraisia.

Upon arriving back to their small region of the forest, the dark-haired elf was pleased to notice that the Order of Sato had managed to complete construction of the workshop.  Once he had made sure that the new arrivals were taken to their new accommodations, he and Joachim sat together in the workshop at a drafting table to design blueprints for a new building.  Talonrel was aware of the fact that there were artifacts of power in the world which were necessary to study if they were to discover more about the secrets around them.  However, after discussing ancient writings with Joachim, it came to light that such items of power could not be held by normal means.  Perhaps if they were dormant they could simply be stored like any other item composed of matter, but once active their power could be fearsome and potentially destroy not only a building but the entirety of Mythstraisia.  So, it would be necessary to design a building that could withstand an untold amount of hidden power.  Finally, they decided on a material for usage with a coating of several ancient dwarven runes passed down in writings from a clan called Ironshield.  It was a rather strange clan name for someone who was beholden to the crafting arts rather than a warrior.

After deciding, they handed off the plans to the Order of Sato to begin work on their construction.  Talonrel, however, had caught word while in Moracku that because of numerous adventurers and knights, trolls and ogres had been fleeing from their hills.  Well aware of the fact that no construction or civilization survived for long without metal or stone, he knew that with the trolls and ogres gone this would be an opportune time to try to have an expedition go try to find out if there was anything usable.  The young elf was no fool, however.  There was still the possibility that some of the monsters were still left guarding their hordes.  So, he had the Rangers of the Swift Arrow don the armor and wield the weapons that were originally owned by the Order of Sato.  They were obviously not well-suited for elven use with the armor being ill-fitted and the swords more made for stronger races than those who were agile.  As they set out to the Southeast into the hills, Talonrel made a mental note to see if they could get the equipment refitted at a later point in time.

Joachim, to his credit, did not let himself stay idle, deciding to head to the West of Mythstrasia in order to see what he could find around their new home.

Talonrel leads the Rangers, a rather experience cadre of Elves; out to the south-eastern hills of the region.  Thanks to the general sparseness of the vegetation, you find only a light dew on the ground and are able to move fairly swiftly, even against the early morning chill; which soon gives way to a comfortable warmth as the rolling hills and your own movements heat with the energy of the land.

Spying several smoke stacks, you make your way off of the main road and soon stumble upon a strange and quaint hamlet.  Dozens of men occupy numerous fields and gardens, as women churn butter and setup arrangements of food at their tiny marketplace.

[ Talonrel Windrunner and the Rangers of the Swift Arrow successfully Scout (H9). ]

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Arriving back to Mythstraisia, Talonrel had shut himself in his room for a day, burying himself in research.  The young elf had not expected for his first contact with a human village to end so abysmally.  How was he to know that humans were as xenophobic as elves were in this land?  It felt like all he had done was trade the prejudice about the color of his hair and pale features to another about his pointed ears and almond-shaped eyes.  It was frustrating, and he knew that he needed to shut himself away from the world for a little while in order to reset himself.  Logic was the one thing that cut through prejudice and ignorance like a hot knife through butter.  So, the best thing he could do was to build up Mythstraisia as much as he could.

To that effect, he called on Joachim the next day.  It was quite obvious that they didn't know much about the area surrounding their new home.  That was something that Talonrel knew they had to rectify if they were to have any sense of security.  Gathering intelligence was an important part of making informed decisions.  So, the two of them began drawing up plans for a building in which they could house and use a great deal of information at once.  Drawing up coops for homing pigeons alongside the building, every person in their new home set off to find birds to fill them.  Soon, they began to train them to return to the coops.  Meanwhile, Joachim set out to the West to explore and develop new contacts in order to develop their intelligence network further.  Before he left, however, he and Talonrel discussed the possibility of stopping the bandits to the Southwest.

Could they really afford to expend the manpower to hunt down the bandits that were threatening the village trade?  The young elf knew that trade was important as it led to growth and prosperity for each settlement, but when the different races were afraid or hostile, would that really be beneficial to them?  However, he soon saw that having trade would enable them to reconcile their differences.  Plus, who was to say that the bandits would not come to threaten Mythstraisia in its fledgling state in the future?  They needed to be dealt with, but not before their precise location and numbers were recorded.  Sending forces in blind was a good way to get people killed, and he would not be responsible for the deaths of his own people so soon.  Since the bandits were located in the flatlands surrounded by forests, Talonrel knew that if he and the Rangers went, they would be able to easily spy on the bandit camp from the safety of the forest without being noticed.  So, letting the Order of Sato begin construction of their new building, he and the other elves journeyed out into the forest.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Talonrel move-out with the utmost stealth to observe the camp of the highwaymen and bandits off of the main roads of the Plains (F8).  After the descriptions of the various terrified rumors from the peasants and merchants, it takes little effort to locate them.  The smoke stack from their large campfires and the sounds of carousing are more than enough to draw-in your keen senses.

Taking stock, you find some heavy foliage to conceal your presence as you count their number.  Their numbers are few, no more than ten - and armed with very little of what could be called favorable 'weapons'.  Indeed they were likely hapless peasants themselves.

Possibly as a result of their undisciplined pillaging, on your return trip, you discover a half-battered smokehouse, still filled-with salted meats and barrels of foods.  From a mental note of the provisions at the bandit's camp: you realize they must have been here and only took what they could carry.  This place might make a good source of food as the previous occupants are likely dead or abandoned the area.

    2. Loan a single Unit for one week to help the villagers harvest Stone OR donate 10 stone to the village.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

As he and the Rangers of the Swift Arrow passed by the smokehouse, Talonrel made sure to note the location of where the provisions were in his journal.  Since a good deal of the meat there was already smoked, he knew the food would keep for at least a week if not longer.  They would return for it as soon as they could.  Provisions were hard to come by since they had no way to farm for themselves at the current point in time.  The young elf had his hands full just with designing the layout of their new stronghold.  When they arrived back in Mythstraisia, he inspected the newly-constructed building the Order of Sato had created to store and house their information and communications and wrote a log of the location of the foodstuffs and their rough amount and quality.

As he did so, he took a look around the building.  Bookshelves had been constructed which served to hold the old tomes he had brought with him and added with the Joachim's collection along with those from the rest of the Order of Sato.  Provisions were one thing, but he was concerned about leaving the Rangers with ill-fitting human gear of low quality for too long.  It was not that the Order of Sato had been in possession of shoddy gear by any means, but there was only so much that human craftsmen could do alone.  That did not mean that humans necessarily had inferior quality to their crafting.  It was simply different.  Humans emphasized utility and flexibility in their armor and weaponry: mass production of one size would mean that they could easily outfit a large number of troops without much concern.  It was a trait that Talonrel hoped to adapt into the metalworking techniques he already knew.  Elven smithing techniques emphasized lightweight and form fit for whatever type of military unit's specialty may be.  It had the effect of granting rather high quality at the expense of resources and time.  If he could find a way to blend the two, it would result in flexible armor of high quality and usability.

However, the tools the humans use would not be conducive to elven smithing techniques.  Their hammers were too heavy and they lacked tools that helped mold the metal with subtle and precise techniques.  If they were going to expand their metalworking, they needed to adapt their tools first.  Even though the Rangers were equipped with weapons and armor that did not maximize their abilities, Talonrel doubted that they were so rusty that they could not effectively defeat a handful of barely-armed bandits.  He would only get in the way if he journeyed with them, so he sent them with instructions to drive out the bandits.  After all, if they stayed there would be a downswing of the trade that Mythstraisia needed lest it be killed in its cradle.  He and Joachim went with the Order of Sato to the workshop they had designed to brainstorm a way to work elven tools and techniques into the tools they were already using in their metalworking ventures.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Though not particularly concerned about the needs of the travelers, sending the Rangers of the Swift Arrow still served the greater purpose of putting their combative prowess to use.  Taking up what arms were available, they strode out to the northern plains and sought out a few travelers along the way to confirm the location.  It seemed that the bandits had become bold and flush with their trivial successes on unarmed merchants and were not prepared for a real skirmish.

The Rangers of the Swift arrow dove upon the poorly armed bandits with the dawn, striking fear with their alarming speed.  Unfortunately, highwaymen had developed a penchant for violence and bloodlust and despite the lack of formal training; soon struck back.  But, without adequate equipment; they soon fell to the blades of the Elven band.

Being strapped for coffers and resources made preparing better tools difficult, so the Order of Sato made do with what pithy materials they had and a set of rusty tools already at their disposal.  Working at a steady pitch, they burned-away some of the dross, most of the effort being put into stoking the fires of the workshop to a sufficient temperature to temper the metals once more.  It took days to painstakingly restore value to the Crafter's Tools, but in the end - the effort was worth its while.  Now, having new tools of which Talonrel could be quite proud; they knew they were ready for more strenuous projects.

The Rangers returning from their successful bandit clearing, Talonrel finally felt like they had established some kind of security to their new location.  But, problems still weighed on his mind.  Their food supplies that they had initially brought were running dangerously low, and with the rains they had been having, it was likely that one of the villages they had seen would soon flood without a dam being built soon.  With their knowledge of construction, Mythstraisia had the ability to help the villagers, but what good was doing it for them?  That would amount to nothing more than giving a man a fish when they could teach him to fish for himself.  That required a small sacrifice in that they would have less security while the Rangers of the Swift Arrow went to teach the villagers how to construct at least the foundations of a dam.  In their day, the Rangers had dealt with weather of all different types on their missions, so they could at least get thing started.  It was true that the Order of Sato was probably more well-versed in construction techniques, but they had another path they needed to follow.

Stone would be needed to actually construct a dam in its entirety, but the tools they had on hand would not nearly be good enough to extract the sum which they needed from the ground.  So, modifications needed to be made.  Better quality tools would allow them to extract more resources in the coming weeks.  It was true that the rains were going to get stronger soon according to their calculations, but if they rushed to try to gather as much as they could now, it was likely they would get less in their haste than they would if they made better plans now and prepared.  Spending some time with Joachim and the Order of Sato, the dark-haired elf made some schematics of what he had in mind before they started their work.  Within a week's time, hopefully the Rangers would have taught the villagers enough that they would be useful helpers in the dam construction before the rains really came.  Preparation required a timetable, and Talonrel had already planned for it the best he could.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Whatever latent secrets lay in the mind of the young Elf from his mystical homeland guided the new efforts to take the rust and cracks out of the Earthen tools.  If the Usurpation were to succeed; dredging their fair share (and more) from the land would be needed.  Starting with the pickaxes, The Order of Sato applied their newfound knowledge of craftsmanship against memories and whispered speeches that they recalled from youth.

Burning through the dross was difficult, and with the workshop being little more than a clay and stone hovel against a chimney  backdrop, heat was not their friend.  However, Joachim had learned more than a few tricks himself for stoking a flame and containing heat within stone compounds and soon helped burn-away flecks of waste as they poured new material into even molds; hoping to round-out each tool.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

The rains were coming.  Of this, Talonrel was sure.  The problem became that now they were battling against time to see if they could save both the villages and themselves.  The rains would more than likely destroy whatever foodstuffs they had managed to find in the past few weeks, so they would need to stock up, but not before actually securing the stone needed to build the dam in the first place.  There was no telling when the orcs and ogres would come back to claim their dens in the hills and mountains once again, so they had to work quickly.

Taking every single able-bodied person they had, the dark-haired elf set out to the East to attain some stone they had previously found.  Unfortunately, it was located in the swamps which had only become more treacherous with the regular rains that had been occurring as they built up to the torrential downpour that they knew was coming.  For hours they all worked, human and elf alike until their clothes were caked in the muck in order to get as much stone as they could possibly carry back with them to Mythstraisia.  It was probably more than they needed to help construct the dam, but whatever they did not have to use to help the villages would be useful for themselves in order to keep improving their own buildings and tools.  There was no telling when something else with a higher priority would take up all their time and attention.  Nor would be there be a way to tell when they would need stone the most in an emergency situation.

The young elf wanted to be prepared in case anything happened.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Although Talonrel was certainly not accustomed to hollowing-out holes in the side of the earth, Joachim welcomed it; even though his heart knew some of the stone may be appropriated to assist the nearby hamlet, the inner crafter in him bubbled forth as he saw easy opportunities to carve-out some usable chunks.  The key was finding blocks large-enough to be worth the effort of making the haul; and with as little dross mixed-in as possible.

The work went easily as the new earthen tools, with their sharper edges, and heavier spades made the work far less back-breaking; a feature that the Order of Sato appreciated heavily (pun intended.)

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Having sent word to the village that the required stone for the dam had been found, the members of Mythstraisia helped load the stone onto a cart the villagers brought to haul it back to the site of the dam they needed to build.  Watching the wagon recede into the distance, Talonrel looked to the heavens.  They did not have much time left.  However, they could not help the village and afford to starve themselves.  Their food stores were bare.  If they did not do something soon, they would have problems toward the end of the month.  So, he called on all their members to go find the basic necessities they needed for life.  It would be cutting it close, but they could probably manage to finish building the dam at the end of the month.  What other choice did they have?  They could help no one if they hurt themselves in the process of trying to provide aid.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

With the rains starting to come down in full force, Talonrel sent the Order of Sato along with Joachim ahead to the villages to gather the other workers and begin construction on the dam.  The foundations had already been put in place from their previous work, but now that the rainfall had begun in earnest, they could no longer afford to delay things.  However, the young elven leader could not afford to dedicate the entirety of their forces to the effort.  As it stood, they did not have the resources to afford to keep Mythstraisia going if they did not find more soon.  So, he had decided to personally accompany the Rangers of the Swift Arrow back to the site where the Order of Sato had tried to find gold the previous week to see if perhaps they had missed some sort of vital clue.

After all, there were things that a man of knowledge might see that had been overlooked by people who had been used to the practice for many a year.  That was how research was done and technology evolved.

Heading-out with the Order of Sato, Joachim came to finally understand the problem.  The heavy river had been diverted only by the heavy stones and leaning logs that prevented the wayward waters from crashing into the hard-packed earth that surrounded the eastern edge of the small hamlet.  Unfortunately, it was eroding and was likely to crack and break soon.  You notice plenty of damage already from areas where the townsfolk had hastily repatched.

Setting to work - you manage to make use of the hamlet's labor and soon refortify the area with your expertise and the Order of Sato's strong backs.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

The torrential rain came and the citizens of Mythstraisia pitched in to help alongside the townspeople of Flatscar.  Amid the downpour, they met a man hammering alone trying to patch up what the townspeople had managed to accomplish on their own.  At a glance one could tell that he was no novice to the hammer and nail.  Even his well-toned arms made it obvious that he was used to working raw material into something creative and new.  Coming to his aid along with their supplies and expertise, the crisis was avoided.  Introducing himself as Sam, he offered to go back with them to Mythstraisia as he was excited to be alongside those with a similar talent for the creation of items for the betterment of the people of the world.  With the work they had done for the people of Flatscar, it seemed that the townspeople were warming up to their presence.

With their pantry stocked and enough monetary resources to see them through another few weeks, Talonrel brought his attention to the fact that despite the amount of blueprints they had created, they simply did not have the raw materials to turn any of their ideas into reality.  They had spent a great deal of raw materials just making sure Flatscar made it through the floods.  But, the immediate concern was whether or not the bandits that had been in the area would take advantage of the townspeople that were just now recovering from the disaster.  The young elf knew that it was the habit of bandits to prey on people when they were at their most vulnerable.  What time was more vulnerable than now?  It was because of this that he had decided to go along with the Rangers of the Swift Arrow to become the guardians of the people of Flatscar and root out any bandit elements that may be on their way to loot and pillage.

He would miss the nightly meetings with Joachim and Sam over wine and fire as they discussed their ideas at length.  Sam was an apt carpenter and smith and came with his own ideas and experience to add to the melting pot of their ideas.  But, the dark-haired elf knew that if they left the bandits alone, much of the work they did putting together the dam would have been for nothing as Flatscar collapsed from attack.  Leaving the town, he left Joachim to renovate their building dedicated to information gathering with new maps on the potential movements of different mineral veins and the types of wood that were good for various types of crafts.  Their information was starting to blend between human and elven gathering techniques until it became one.  In the evening after a long day's work, Joachim would still be able to drink with Sam and discuss further ideas that would end up benefiting them both in the long run.

Nibbling on bits of choice food, Sam Buck takes to heart the necessities of the task before Joachim and the Order of Sato.  Proud to be among those who value his knowledge and craftsmanship in general, he alternates between explaining the finer points of refinement and material cleansing while admiring the work of the tools that the Order of Sato puts to use in establishing the obstacle courses, trials, and other trappings of the Spymaster's Suite.

It would do any Usurpation little good to attempt to gather information surreptitiously without their networking being as well trained and equipped as its warriors.  Afterall, every battle was a combination of knowledge, equipment, and maneuverability.  In this apex; the knowledge and guile grew to new heights as Joachim oversaw the construction.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Having blueprinted out quite a few inventions after having discussed them together, Talonrel realized that Mythstraisia simply did not have the resources available to begin their creation.  Not only that, it seemed that their new home had reached the peak of its initial construction.  They had focused almost entirely on building as fast and efficiently as possible--effectively constructing an entire settlement in less than a few months, but it had taken a toll on their available resources for further development.  They no longer had the wood stores available to maintain the pace that they had for the short burst they had.

What they needed was a new infusion of resources, but the closest sources of lumber were in the elven forests from which Talonrel had fled.  But, the young elf had bided his time and gathered intelligence on the peripheral elven guard that constantly rotated at the edge of the woods in order to get a good grasp on their comings and goings.  How else would they be able to infiltrate them?  They would only have one chance to scout out the woods themselves and find a good selection of trees for logging.  One they did, it would be far easier to go and cut them down and transport them by mapping a more direct route from the logging spot to Mythstraisia.  The key now was to gather as many people as he could to multiply the amount of eyes that could search.  By doing so, it would lower the amount of time it took them to find a good spot, which consequently lowered their chances of getting caught.  Gathering every available man and elf, they set off on their expedition of discovery.

Having covered their tracks and their discovery effectively, the group headed back to Mythstraisia to gather any kind of implement or tool they could find.  Talonrel ushered them to make haste.  After all, the trees they had discovered were squarely in the territory of the elves, and there was no telling when they would be found.  Now, it was simply a battle against time itself to see just how much lumber they could gather before the elves realized what was going on.  While usually he would be concerned with the quality of the materials they were gathering, their resources were in such dire circumstances that now it was more of a matter of quantity over quality.  After all, there were structures to be built and tools to be made.  And it was better to have more of them than less.

Under the cover of night, all the members of Mythstraisia flitted silently through the forest, sneaking past the ever watchful eyes of the elves.

Returning to the heavy copse, you unfurl the numerous camouflage coverings and begin to chop, saw, and trim the heavy maples.  Piling them high into the make-shift litters, you look-on with pride at the rapid work of your crew.  If only you had more followers, you could easily take-out this hollow in a hurry, and you hope what you are able to grab is sufficient.

Joachim takes it in turn to rotate members of the Order of Sato and the Rangers of the Swift Arrow to scout and watch the perimeter to not only allow them to rest, but to maintain a weather eye against a possible incursion.  More than once you spot roving bands of Orcs and Elves moving-off in the distance far-out by the main roads.  When finally a single band appears as if it were heading in your direction Joachim sounds the alert and you all pack up the tools and leave.  It takes you a few extra minutes, but you manage to obscure the majority of your presence.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Guiding the others back to Mythstraisia, the it was not long before the Rangers turned around and headed back to continue the logging operation under the cover of darkness.  With fewer numbers, it would be easier for them to avoid detection.  Not to mention that their outpost required more resources than they had initially found.  Taking some of the tools with them, they disappeared back into the night, blending into the forest's underbrush as they had been trained to do long ago.

Taking the lumber they had cut with their own hands, the others took their rest save for Talonrel, Joachim, and Sam.  It was for them to figure out which of their plans and schematics to attempt first with their newfound supplies.  Talking throughout the night over ale and wine, they woke up the outpost several times with their heated discussions.  Tempers often flared as each one advocated for a different pet project that should take priority.  As the sun came up, it was decided that they should construct the new longbows they had designed.  While their outpost was coming along quite nicely, the image of the Rangers of the Swift Arrow blending back into the forest weighed heavily on their minds.  As it was, they were still using the ill-fitting equipment they had borrowed from the stores that were meant for humans.  If anything, their equipment was holding them back rather than aiding them.  With the bandits that the Rangers had already dispatched, the leaders were acutely aware that the outpost was quite undefended.  It was time to create something that was tailor made for the Rangers in order to assist them rather than hold them back.

Gathering everyone together, they began the process of crafting the longbows.  The design was quite ingenious.  The problem with the elven longbow was that, despite its innate accuracy, it was rather fragile due to its willowy nature.  As a result, it was difficult to place a good deal of strength into the shots.  In contrast, the longbow that had been used by humans for centuries was one that was quite durable, but lacked the accuracy of the elves' longbow due to it not having the same shape and springy material.  In order to couneract these problems, they had designed counterweights in order to make up for the power deficit of the elven bow while thickening the grip in order to provide extra durability to assure that the bow would not snap from the draw.  It was the best of both worlds.  Now, it was just a matter of testing it out to see how it worked in practice.

Sifting through the bits of lumber, thin sticks, and heavy logs; the Order of Sato were befuddled.  Few were truly appropriate for crafting worthy bows, even crossbows.  Snagging-out a few of the heavier maples, they were quickly vetoed as some were clearly meant to be set-aside for other projects.  Hours and hours of inspections went-by until they stumbled across a small pile of perfect hickory.  Although not the usual Willows to which Talonrel's elven nature was accustomed, the Order knew they could draw-upon a well of knowledge to make it work even better.  Undamaged by vermin or insects, and having not been eroded by sitting unattended in a stream the Order of Sato set them aside and back to work.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Having realized the possibility of crafting a work that combined the best of two different races, the people of Mythstraisia were overjoyed.  However, they knew that they needed to keep storing more lumber if they were going to have a chance at improving upon their place of residence with both more specialized buildings to help along new ideas as well as more works that sought to blend the crafts of all races into one.  Setting off under the cover of night once again, they left to find the trees they had discovered, slipping into parts of the forest while avoiding the elven patrols that threatened to find them.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

The information gathering of Mythstraisia had grown in leaps and bounds since Talonrel had first founded the outpost.  But, he did not realize just how much it had grown until he received a pigeon from one of the villages they had aided.  It seemed that a caravan holding large amounts of tax money from the local lords was going to be passing from the western plains through the forests in order to travel to the eastern mountains to be placed in a secure location.  It was money that had been cruelly taxed from people who could not afford it for personal gain.  The dark-haired elf knew that he did not possess much of a fighting force, but because the caravan was going to be passing through terrain they knew well, a small group of ten would probably have a better chance of a quick attack.  After all, to the Rangers of the Swift Arrow and all elves, the forest was a home that served to shroud them from untrained eyes since they were born.

However, that was not all the news he received.  It seemed there were rumors of coordination among the bandits in the area.  Something large was coming.  Mythstraisia would need more help.  The Rangers of the Swift Arrow were not the only ones who had left the elven empire, so perhaps Talonrel could find others who were willing to join their cause with a little luck.  He began his journey back to the city in which he had first found the Rangers.  It had been months since then, so perhaps others can come in their travels.  In order to accommodate more people in their outpost, Joachim worked with the Order of Sato to expand their living quarters.

As the Rangers of the Swift Arrow made their final preparations to take on the small caravan, they noticed a slight change- it seemed that these guards were a little more well-prepared than usual.  Bearing heavy, wooden shields; they were a little more prepared for hostiles.

Launching several volleys of arrows, the distance soon closed between the Rangers and the tax-guards, but, not before a full four of their number were struck down.  The remainder, now laden with multiple arrows splintered into their shields met in a bloody clash.  The agility of the Elves won the first blows as they slung their bows and drew swords.

A few moments passed and suddenly the human guards managed to gain a moment's reprieve, striking several Elves with a precision that took the Swift Arrows by surprise.  Thankfully their armor was more than up to the challenge of the pathetic clubs and sticks that the humans had brought.

Soon, the majority of the guards were slain as the Elves made-off with piles of gold.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Having liberated a good deal of the tax money, Talonrel sent word to the surrounding villages and portioned the gold for each of them, setting up dead drops in order to make sure that the villagers would not be seen directly receiving the money.  After all, it would do no good at all if they were caught receiving the money that had been stolen from the lords.  It would cause a potential bloodbath if the lords realized that the villagers were in league with those that had attacked their guards and stolen from them.  Some of the money was kept for the maintenance of Mythstraisia itself.  It only made sense.  Upkeep on a hidden outpost required funds in order to keep operations running smoothly.  And it wasn't as if the villagers weren't benefiting from their presence.

It was the dark-haired elf's luck that led him to find the unit formerly known as the Forest's Shadow while he was visiting Moracku.  The group of elves had previously been a unit of elves specializing in unseen reconnaissance and counter-intelligence efforts for the elven empire.  They had run into problems and become hunted because a particular elven noble had the penchant for contraband substances that were being imported.  The Forest's Shadow had caught the transport and traced it back to the noble's family until they were suddenly under siege by the higher ups and left.  Talonrel knew that they would be a great addition alongside the Rangers of the Swift Arrow if they wanted to keep Mythstraisia secure and still maintain intelligence on their surroundings while staying hidden.

However, more members of the outpost meant they were in more dire need of materials and resources for tools.  It was a different story providing for thirty people than it had been for ten or even twenty.  They needed stone for tools and iron to be refined into steel for arms and armor.  After all, no matter how elite a unit's training, there was only so much they could do with their bare hands.  While Talonrel was not a fan of full militarization, he was fully aware that the best way to keep themselves safe was to have a strong deterrent ready for those that would blindly search for them within their forest home.

With the new recruits working in tandem with their leadership to ply their skills, the Order of Sato was finally given the opportunity to flex its muscles and join in dealing with corrupt merchants and officials.

As the Rangers of the Swift Arrow once-more made use of their powerful bows, the Order flanked-around another ditch to grab several bottles of wine, some less fragile art, and other sundries wrapped in heavy blankets.  The shielded guards put-up some resistance but soon flee; as the mules race-off into the distance to get away from the fighting.  Fleeing the scene, those in charge scarcely had time to realize what had transpired.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Not long after the Rangers of the Swift Arrow arrived back with the Order of Sato, Talonrel received word that there was another force hunting heading toward them from the western plains.  Something about it did not sit right with him.  The timing for the attack was too good--as if someone knew they were going to attack the caravan of tax gold that was on its way to the eastern mountains.  Someone was trying to trick them into revealing the position of Mythstraisia, but to what end the dark-haired elf did not know.  But, the attack was too well-timed, and it seemed like the forces were headed toward them at a fairly accurate angle.  Given enough time, their outpost might be found.  What the mastermind behind the attack did not count on was the fact that they were dealing with elves in a forest.

The Rangers of the Swift Arrow had long been one of the best defenders of the elven homeland, but truly remarkable elven defenders were not much more adept at combat than others.  What they did have, however, was the experience to lend guile to their actions.  A forest was an elf's home.  They spent centuries playing in the forest and living in them until they died.  It made sense to use the forest to their advantage.  But, this was not a simple terrain advantage used to block arrows or trip an opponent underfoot with roots.  No, an elven defender knew how to use the forest to their advantage to harass their quarry from different directions and effectively mask their location and where they came from.  The Rangers of the Swift Arrow would be able to effectively thwart their attackers and lead them on a merry chase through the forest that would not only not reveal the location of Mythsraisia, but it would serve to further confuse the attacking forces and muddle information they may already have.

While the Rangers took care of obfuscating the presence of their outpost, Talonrel and Joachim left for the eastern mountains with the Order of Sato led by Forest's Shadow in order to take back as much high quality stone as they could carry.  While their outpost was remarkable in how quickly it had sprung, it did not have the best facilities as yet.  Nor did they have the best tools available at the moment.  While the initial designs of the tools comprised of the advantages of both races were good in their prototype, they still needed to produce enough for everyone to take advantage of them.  Sadly, their production was lagging severely behind their design ability.  That was something that Talonrel hoped to rectify as soon as possible.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Bandit movements in the past week had become so regular that Talonrel had been forced to keep the Rangers of the Swift Arrow on permanent alert in order to respond to the threat.  Already, he had sent them out on another patrol to take care of more potential attackers.  These were definitely more than regular bandits.  They were too well organized and were sending too many forces too frequently to just be that.  Bandits generally preyed on weaker targets.  Why would they send more men if they were getting killed?  They had to have an outpost in the area.  The key was to figure out where it was.

While the Order of Sato was at work creating the second edition of tools they had been puzzling and planning over for weeks, the dark-haired elf sent Forest's Shadow to see what they could find in the forest while the Rangers were doing the fighting.  Information gathering was their specialty, so perhaps they could find the information Mythstraisia was lacking while they sought out the special wood they required for the silent archery they were known for.

The Order of Sato was excited to be able to continue their efforts in the Workshop.  It was still deplorable compared to some of the more fantastic places ever described, however; the tools served well-enough.  Artfully they worked their methods once more, and with Sam Buck's guidance managed an almost near-duplicate of the previous tools.  A few flaws appeared during the refining, but, they worked with what they had.  Not all dross can be burned-away with a workshop of this condition.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

With all the bandits that had been killed moving through the forest, it seems that their mastermind had not given up the search for Mythstraisia.  However, a mastermind cannot always account for the mistakes of their subordinates.  The previous ambush performed by the Rangers of the Swift Arrow was a good example.  After the bandits had been slain by a shower of arrows, the elves recovered a valuable piece of intelligence.  The correspondence seemed to suggest that the bandits actually were not part of some normal brigands on the road, but were actually housed in their own village nearby.  It seemed that information on where Mythstraisia was would likely fetch them a good price--enough to make them rich beyond their wildest dreams and go from bandits to nobility.  So, even though they were well hidden in plain sight because the village they had seemed legitimate, they decided to risk hunting down the fledgling outpost.

Despite the fact that the bandits were attacking from the West, the scrap of paper seemed to imply that they were actually from East of the forest and were purposefully taking a more circuitous route in order to obfuscate their true location.  The only village that Talonrel knew in that general direction was Mistfield.  The humans that had been there when they had first met months ago had been generally antagonistic when they had seen him.  He had simply dismissed it as racial prejudice given his elven heritage, but perhaps there was something more to it.  The fact that he and Joachim could possibly find something that would tip them off to the villagers actually being a large group of bandits, perhaps?  However, they could not move without proof.  Thankfully, Talonrel, Joachim, and Sam were some of the most brilliant minds in the land.

The plan was simple.  They had to smoke out the intentions of the "villagers."  In order to do so, the dark-haired elf sent the Rangers of the Swift Arrow not to defend their forest lands but far to the East to attack the area close to the Mistfield.  Because the attack would be so close to their village, the bandits would have to react by showing themselves, perhaps sending out another group to reinforce the bandits that the Rangers would be fighting.  It would be a perfect chance for Forest's Shadow to see the bandits in their true form leaving the village as well as get an accurate count of the relative strength and numbers of the bandit village.

Meanwhile, the Order of Sato along with Joachim, Talonrel, and Sam would begin crafting a new set of longbows for Forest's Shadow upon their return to replicate the style of the weapons they had previously created for the Rangers of the Swift Arrow.  If they had found the resting place of their pursuers, they would need to be prepared to strike quickly as soon as possible or their outpost would never be safe.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

As the rust wore-off from the tools, so too did it fall from the ancient memories housed within the Order of Sato, as they began to steam up the water in the pots to warp the wood.  Not all wood was equally useful, and chucking aside the rotted pieces was necessary to ensure quality.  Several days of treating and reshaping occurred before the visible aspects of a bow could even be recognized; but, the patience was worth it.  As they began to cut strong horse-hair; acquired from some of the previous raids on the bandits: it was carefully woven and strung to create a sturdy foundation for the string.

Scouting Mistfield proved incredibly useful.  It was odd to see such a robust group of humans out among the wilder lands normally occupied by Orcs.  Although not impossible to live out here, humans tend to prefer the pastured lands of the plains wherein farmers can product massive crops.  Instead, they preferred to round-up some of the hardier turnips, brocolli, and potatoes that formed the more fortified diet of the highlanders.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Forest's Shadow arriving back to Mythstraisia to confirm their suspicions about Mistfield did not bring any joy to the dark-haired elf's heart.  It was with heavy feelings that he signed the orders to bring to bear the full weight of the elite elven units against the camouflaged bandit camp.  Considering the Rangers of the Swift arrow had spent the better part of the last couple months with Forest's Shadow thinning the number of the bandit forces in the forests surrounding the research outpost, Talonrel doubted that the bandits had many men left to put up a strong resistance.  The reports brought back to him seemed to confirm this conjecture and make it fact.  Still, he wanted no survivors--no one to run and tell others of Mythstraisia's location.  They could not afford the security breach.  Drying the ink of the missive, he left the two groups of elven combatants to prepare for their deadly work.

It was not long into the week that the young elf received a report from another source about Mistfield's activities.  It was from the elves of Redforest.  In it, they outlined some of their suspicions about Mistfield and advised caution when dealing with them.  The advice caught Talonrel off guard.  He had long since been used to prejudice and suspicion from the general elven populace, so the fact that another group of elves was not actively trying to make sure he was dead was something he was not expecting.  Gathering his traveling cloak and some supplies, he decided to travel to Redforest itself with gifts in order to personally portray his thanks that they were looking out for Mythstraisia despite the fact that the information arrived later than Talonrel's own.  It was the intention that counted, and encouraging that sort of behavior would only serve to benefit Mythstraisia in the future.  To that end, the dark-haired elf encouraged Joachim to go out and explore the land again once he had finished giving directions to the Order of Sato on the refurbishing of the workshop.  With the burgeoning number of people, it was high time that they expanded the work space and added in the extra emplacements and larger stations they had been planning for a while.

The more they knew about their immediate surroundings, the better prepared they would be to ensure things like this did not happen again.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

As you meet with the residents of RedForest, they are quite pleased with the gifts of construction tools and gold that you bring, and begin to swap stories of harvests with you.  They seem more than pleasantly happy to see you alive and thriving in the harsh landscape of the region.  As you peruse the marketplace, a rather eccentric Elf approaches and offers his services...

The Rangers of the Swift Arrow and the Forests' Shadow, armed with their latest intelligence on the hamlet of Mistfield.  It seemed that the place had recently received monies directly from the noble families in order to shore up their defenses, and had begun establishing walls of spiked logs around key areas, a posture most certainly suspicious for such a seemingly quaint location.

Sneaking carefully through Mason guild's small chapter house, the Rangers light an arrow and send it hurtling into the barracks building of the town's miniscule militia.  Soon, a squad of poorly trained humans came rushing-out to try and fight.  Unfortunately for them, they took too long to organized and were soon felled by your mighty arrows.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Having defeated the plot that had been looming against them, the residents of Mythstraisia celebrated.  They had been under pressure from their pursuers for the past couple months, and having not only survived but countered them put them in high spirits.  However, Talonrel was acutely aware of how close they had been to destruction.  They would not be able to survive something like this again they way they were now, and their enemies will have learned from their mistakes once they decide to try again.  What Mythstraisia needed right now was a method to give them strength.  To be a light in the darkness.

Ever since he was young, Talonrel had run away from what his appearance indicated, refusing to accept that he was somehow different than the other elves even though they castigated him constantly for what they assumed his appearance indicated.  A pale-skinned elf with hair the color of night was unheard of.  He could no longer afford to avoid that there was something different about him.  It had become necessary to find out just what it was.  If he wanted to have any hope of discovering what it was, he needed to make the journey to the Temple in the Sky to the East.  The Temple had long stood as a relic of the past when magic was more prevalent than it was now.  If any place stood a chance of helping him tap into any unique abilities he may have, it was that place.

Leaving the elves to go and gather more food to replenish their stores and the Order of Sato to further tinker with the forge in the Workshop, Talonrel and Joachim donned their traveling cloaks and proceeded to make the long and dangerous journey to the Temple in the Sky in the hope that they could find what could become Mythstraisia's salvation.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Approaching the Temple in the Sky was a journey unto itself.  Rumors had poured in from your spies as to the nature of the place.  Littered were a series of missives that were beyond cryptic.  You nearly suspected your agents were having fun at your expense until Joachim pointed-out the actual documents being sent: none were written by your scouts.  Instead, they had been fragments and musings written into other texts about the place.

It seemed that the travel to the place was meant to be part of the process: a way for a prospective learner to impress a mindset upon themselves.  As you entered, you beheld the exterior; almost invisible against mountainside into which it was built, or more accurately: the mountain peak.  A few pillars jutted against the sky to indicate its presence.  The whole place was wind-swept and worn, which belied the beauty of the place as you stumbled through the heavy doors.  Clean and pristine to a level of perfection unknown even to your ancient people Talonrel's eyes were nearly blinded by the pearly-white floors and walls.

Seeing the lost, yet seeking look in the young elf's eyes- a group of monks approached, wearing little more than ill-fitting burlap and wool for clothing they moved wordlessly and guided you through an extensive ritual of cleaning, cleansing, and more than a day of meditation.

Finally, you were brought to sit in front of a large flame.  A message wafts into your mind - illuminating you with new knowledge if you are willing to destroy a small sum of worldly treasure...

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

The days attempting to clear his mind were difficult for Talonrel during his stay at the Temple in the Sky.  It required him letting go of all the the hatred he had directed at him his entire life.  When he finally let it go, he felt a sort of resonance with the temple itself.  It was a peaceful oneness which he had never before experienced.  Almost as if he had become attuned to the ancient structure.  In the back of his mind, he began to feel a sixth sense start to emerge that pointed him in the correct direction.  The monks told him that it was the beginning of his growth in an ancient form of magic.  The temple had chosen to teach him, they had said.  It was a great gift, and not one that should be taken lightly.  However, his time at the temple gradually grew to a close as the days wore on.  Finally, Joachim and he began the long journey back to Mythstraisia.

In his absence, messages were still delivered to the dark-haired elf's desk.  Upon his return, he received a request for help from Flatscar to the north.  It seemed that the village had come under attack by a group of bandits and needed the use of Mythstraisia's forces to drive them away before the village's supply lines were cut completely.  Unsure of whether or not the bandits were an indication that they had not fully suppressed their pursuers, Talonrel decided to send the Rangers of the Swift Arrow and Forest's Shadow in a two-pronged assault against the bandits: the former to form a front and attack the bandits while the latter gathered information about their origins and intentions before striking them from behind.  They could not afford to take any chances.

Deciding to leave Sam and the Order of Sato to their own devices in the workshop, the young elf retired to his room.  However, over the course of the next few days, he found himself inexplicably drawn to the west.  It was as if that sixth sense part of his mind was tugging him along, almost dragging him in that direction.  Knowing that he would not know peace until he explored what it meant, he and Joachim headed off to discover just what Talonrel's newfound magical sense was trying to show them.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

The inexplicable draw on Talonrel's mind first led him to a rather beaten and dingy roadside inn.  The place was filthy beyond measure, and the food was no more appetizing, but the place held a certain strange appeal: the patrons therein were the haggard, rugged, and rustic sort.  Speaking little, only the occasional chuckle or murmur filled the otherwise stale air.

You wait, fighting against your most basic instincts and ponder why you have waited here.  Finally, after what seems like an age in the smoke-filled room when a bumbling old man comes-in, stumbling through the large, double-doors.  Striking-up a conversation, you soon realize he is an out-of-work architect who has specialized in building keeps, castles, and other large construction projects...

Having guided the bumbling old man back to Mythstraisia, Talonrel tasked him with expanding on their outpost.  Within a few days, the man had finished construction and was on his way back to where he came from.  The next task on their list was to find some new resources from which to create new items.  While they had a great deal of lumber and stone, they still did not have the most crucial metals they required for fine-tuning and tinkering.  It was difficult to create arms and armaments from wood alone, and stone was far too heavy.  Not to mention the wide variety of metals that existed in the world all had different properties that could allow for different densities and tensile strengths.  Without metal, they could not evolve any further.  Even elves used metal in their work, though it was used sparingly and substituted much of what they lacked in metal variety with technique.  Dwarves had their own techniques, but used much more dense metals.  With his ideals on finding some kind of balance between the two, Talonrel knew that they would have to find another kind of metal that would be able to handle such a feat.  A metal type they could discover and make their own.

However, he knew that he would not be the one to go with everyone else.  Something within him pulled him to stay in the outpost.  Leaving the others to set off on their journey to bring back whatever metals they could find, the dark-haired elf sat in the building they had dedicated to gathering intelligence in a small room with no windows.  There, he relaxed his breathing and released his mind as the monks in the Temple in the Sky had taught him to become one with his newfound magic.  His body glowed with a faint light as he relaxed and reached out to make contact with the magic within his mind.  Suddenly, images exploded into his sight of far off lands and events he could not place.  Attempting to find some solace from the assault, he reached out and grasped a random image in his mind and suddenly, the deluge of information stopped.

There he was, standing in the mountains far to the southeast of Mythstraisia perhaps a week's travel away.  Though, it was not him.  At least not physically.  His body glowed with the same magical light he had when he was meditating, but he was a shimmering, transparent image.  Taking a few hesitant steps, he did not feel the rocks beneath his feet.  It was as if he had some sort of sight beyond physical sight.  An astral form.  Not knowing how long he would have to explore this, he began to stretch out with his magical senses to see just what he could find here...

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Talonrel's mind reached-out to the mountains, tenuously grasping through the ether to experience the land.  Your spirit guided by the magic of the spell, you begin to transverse many of the more deadly trenches and ravines that would have been foolhardy in a physical state.  As your control over the spell strengthens; your sense of smell takes hold in the spiritual form and you smell a truly foul stench; sulfur.  Following the trail, you soon find several paths, signposts, and other sigils of civilization smoldering in charred heaps; clearly the work of the Drakes.

As you crest your way past a nearby encampment of Orcs, you discover the Drakes: sitting around a fire of heated stones, the pair continually breath into the charred wood and nettles to keep it stoked.  Your mind severs the link to the spell just as one nearly spotted you.

Normally, it would be a maximum of rank 1 (due to the DF 5 quest), however; due to your Epic - you can choose: either find a random rank 2 Artifact (choose a category: Combat, Economy, or Support), or choose your rank 1 Artifact from the entire list.

[*] (If Unit(s), choose a number of levels to lose up to to 10 (may not reduce any Unit below -1).  Multiply this # by 5, you gain this much Gold.  Multiply the amount of levels sacrificed by 4 and gain this much skill XP.  If this causes a Unit(s) to be reduced below level 0, it dies.  (If not, lose appropriate stat points.)  Assign to whomever you see fit.

[*] If you sacrifice an Extra, instead: receive 1 Spell of your Choice.  Then, multiply the Extra's Tier by 8: gain this much Skill XP, which you may assign as you see fit to whomever you see fit.
]

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

It had become months before Talonrel realized it.  Everything had started with the monks at the temple and the meditation exercises.  That first out of body experience had only been the beginning.  Soon, he was taking full journeys in just his astral form, finding hidden items and villages around the countryside without a second thought.  Time had a tendency to pass by more quickly to him because of it, however, and now that he had a moment to catch his breath, it felt like he had turned around to quite a different locale than he had started.

Mythstraisia had grown from a simple outpost to a full hidden village replete with living quarters for the different races who had come to join them.  It had taken some time to find them, but there were elite units from the elven nation standing side by side with a group of orcs who had pledged their loyalty after Talonrel had come upon the wreckage of their village after an attack by a family of drakes and had saved their children.  That was all it had taken to bury the bad blood of orc against elf for ages.  While they did not maintain an alliance with the elven kingdom, they would ally themselves with Talonrel and his cause.  That was all that mattered.  After all, he was an exile of that kingdom himself.

Over the course of time, Talonrel's power had grown.  Before, it had required all his concentration to Spirit Walk around the countryside to places that would become important, but after practicing for quite a while, the powers had now become his own.  He could leave his body to perform menial tasks or oversee others in order to snap to a location and find what needed to be found.  Rooting out necessary things had become almost a sixth sense to him.

Now was just one of those points in time.  The dark-haired elf's body was overseeing Sam and the Order of Sato's work in the workshop to create a new set of blended weaponry this time adding more of the orcish flair to the human and elven techniques.  Meanwhile, Talonrel had already split his concentration and plunged back into the astral body once again.  He had learned how to signal others while doing this, and he could hasten their travel.  Mythstraisia had come to be on good terms with the small elven village of Redforest, and they needed help.  After what had happened with their elders, they were in desperate need of assistance since their elders had died taking most of their ancient knowledge of elven smithing.  They needed to find a new source of metal to at least start creating something hard since they could no longer harden wood, but with all the terrible problems going on in the southern mountains with the troll that had started to kill travelers in the area, they had turned to Talonrel for help.

Even now, he was leading them through the mountains along with a unit of Forest's Shadow to provide an escort for the poorly-armed Redforest Scouts.  They could not risk running afoul the troll at the moment when they would be commencing battle with the Rangers of the Swift Arrow and another group of elves that had joined them recently.  The elves would combat the troll effectively and lead them away from where Talonrel and the others were heading.  It was a perfect plan.

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Talonrel's concentration held the best it could against the onslaught of information and never-ending need for his age-bestowed expertise in so many fields.  The Order of Sato, with Sam Buck filling-in where he could; did their best to work with the pithy materials at their disposal.  Making strong and sturdy weapons was a necessity, especially as the Elf's forces began to face-off against ever-tougher foes, it would not be long before arrows would be insufficient and cold blades and hammers would be required.

Sweating in the face of the poorly ventilated furnace, the Order did their best; pounding-away dross.  As they prepared the blades, Sam painstakingly crafted hilts and hafts that would easily fit anyone's hands and be strong enough to be held against even the mightiest of blows.

Thankfully, even out of their normal element, the Rangers of the Swift Arrow and the Wary Wayfarers still made an excellent team as they found the horrible troll.  Drenched in scars of wounds that had healed a hundred times over, the beast was found feeding off of the body of a barely-adult-aged Elf as if it were no more than an ear of corn.  Drool and spittle flung from its mouth as the two Elves launched their ambush, but, wretched creature was outdone immediately.  As it rushed forward, scores of arrows found their mark against its hide and brought it low.  Dashing forward, the Wayfarers set its skin alight, hoping to prevent it from healing.  The work was done, but, the pilgrims would still need a home...

[ You may select a Quest between DF2 and DF7 (inclusive). ]
[ You encounter an a deranged Necromancer:
Siphon the energy of one or more of your Units or Sacrifice one Extra of your Choice.
(If Unit(s), choose a number of levels to lose up to to 10 (may not reduce any Unit below -1).

If you sacrifice an Extra, instead: receive 1 Spell of your Choice. Then, multiply the Extra's Tier by 8: gain this much Skill XP, which you may assign as you see fit to whomever you see fit. ]

Earth Lord's Vigil:
When Housed, this Artifact provides +12% to Defense and Damage Reduction rolls in Combat, to your forces.
Special Activation: All of your Units compare their Armor Checks against the Single Entity chart, even if they are not a Single Entity.  In addition, all morale and cumulative morale effects, inflicted against your forces, are reduced by -1% (to a minimum of -1%).
[ Thus if you sustain a hit Dam => Arm, your Unit only suffers a -4% to Morale, instead of -5%. ]

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

I feel a bit bad for the amount of time you're going to need to spend on this battle, but it's probably about time.  I can't risk Sylvia getting the time to get Pernicious up and running.  That's my main strategy, and it can really take apart my army.  So, I'm going to go for broke to weaken her army as much as possible.  I'll probably take some casualties, too, but if I can dent her enough, it should give me time to finish locating her other base before she can sufficiently recover.

In case I'm not around for battle options, I'm choosing to use Mind Leech on the best defensive Warder unit she has in the battle.  My army is still targeting units carrying ranged weapons as priority.  Randolph can Napoleon as needed.  Of course I'm using the new defensive artifact as well.  Stalwarts Warder has primary defensive priority.  If theirs fail, Phoenix Guardians Warder should pick up the slack.  Will also obviously be using Quiet Shot and every other applicable special ability I have.  Including the sniper combo on Forest's Shadow (Perceptive + Deep Recon).  Let me know if there's anything else you need.

And, obviously, full Harrier is a GO!

Re: In-Game Thread (IGT) for P4 -

Talonrel is victorious!

Your Army shred through Sylvia's forces like a hot knife on a gob of butter.

After routing Sylvia's army, you scour through the Lair as Sylvia and her remaining followers flee.  They gather what they can, allowing the lesser troops to be battered before you as they pull out the last bits that they can.

As you loot, plunder, and tear-down the pathetic excuse for a stronghold, you pull-out a few goodies amongst the wreckage.

[ You gain 10 Leveling XP. ]
[ You gain 20 Skill XP, which must be assigned as Combat Skills. ]
[ You loot:
10 x Foodstuffs,
5 x HQ Iron,
1 x Crafter's Tools,
]

[ You gain 160 Gold. ]

You receive a note from the Arbiter: "That Princess is in another castle."
