Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

-=Books and Branches Library=-

Ponyville's public library and home to local librarian, Twilight Sparkle and her assistant Spike.  The library hosts a plethora of topics, tomes, books, and scrolls with a wealth of literary knowledge.  Twilight Sparkle's own studious nature has only improved the capacity of the library as it now features a wide array of meteorological equipment, scientific devices, and magical research materials.

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

It was a bright and beautiful new day in Ponyville. The sun was up, the birds were chirping, and Applejack was pulling her closed-up apple cart away from the Orchard. She turned off the route to the market, though, and left thee cart a  few paces back from the library door, as she trotted over, and lightly rapped a hoof on the wood door in the tree.

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

It was a bright and beautiful new day in Ponyville... which meant Twilight Sparkle wasn't awake yet.

For a Pony who glorified the Sun Princess as much as she did, Twilight had never been in the habit of rising with the dawn like some of the more hard-working Ponies in Ponyville.  She was more prone to pulling late-night study sessions or getting absorbed in a captivating book without realizing the midnight hours were marching on around her, then sleeping half the day away as a result.  Spike was no better -- the dragon went to bed early and slept as late as he could, but at least he had the justification of being a baby and needing all his rest.

It took a few knocks and minutes of waiting before Applejack would get any reply.  At first she'd hear some grumbling and shuffling about, the bang of something being knocked over, and finally hooves coming down a staircase.  A moment later the door to the library would glow faintly with a familiar violet aura and swing smoothly open to reveal the slightly bed-headed Librarian on the other side.

"Mnn?  Oh, g'morning Applejack." Twilight hid a wide yawn behind her hoof.  "How are you today?"

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

Outside, Applejack's expression at the series of sounds shifted, curiosity at why the door was unopened, puzzlement..  concern at the crashing about... then  a forced grin, as she realized she'd woken them up.  As Twilight opened the door, she trotted inside. "Ah. G'mornin' Twilight." Applejack turned, and tossed open the flap on one of her saddlebags, revealing a book - Applebloom and the girls had borrowed it a few weeks ago, on one of their escapades. "Ah was in town, so ah thought ah'd drop this off fer Apple Bloom."

She put the book on a table, and turned to Twilight. She did have this look like she'd done something she was sorry for about her, but she just couldn't hid that feeling guilty about inconveniencing somepony else. "Ah hope I didn't wake ya'll up too early. Ah'm on the way to sell some apples at the market."

"Oh~!  My copy of 'Boiling Hearts: A Study of Hearts and Hooves Tradition'!  I'd forgotten that the girls had borrowed that one."  Twilight followed her friend back inside, her sleepy eyes automatically scanning the shelves to see where the suitable gap would be.  Spike had just re-shelved everything the night before, so it was no problem finding the right spot.  The book lifted from the table AJ had left it on in a magical glow and floated over to be slid back into its proper place soundly.

"Don't worry about waking me, AJ.  I should've been up by now anyway... besides, I appreciate you taking the time to return that book.  That was really thoughtful of you." the unicorn smiled as she lit her horn once more to float her mane brush down from upstairs to tidy up her appearance.  "Though if you're going to the market, do you think I could come along?  I needed to do some shopping anyway."

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

"Well, sure. Ah'd never turn down good company." She said, and took a minute to glance over the library shelves. She felt a little intimidated by all of the knowledge accumulated there like a gigantic wall of ... knowing things. Sometimes, so much information could be too much. She had no idea how Twilight handled all these books, but that was what made her friend special. Applejack - she didn't even know where she might begin to look for a book she might like. "Ah'll wait, if ya wanna go get ready."

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

"Thanks, I'll just be a moment." Twilight chirped before she cantered off back upstairs with her mane brush hurriedly following behind her.

In all honesty, Twilight wouldn't understand somepony being intimidated by the wealth of knowledge gathered on those shelves.  She looked upon the vast collections of books and tomes she had, or the even more expansive archives housed in Canterlot, and it practically made her salivate more than one of Pinkie's delicious creations would.  The gathered stories, experiences, and lessons of countless beings from all across Equestria and beyond, the theoretical musings of great minds through the ages, philosophical essays, historical records, even good old casual fiction... what wasn't there to love~?!

On the other hoof though, Twilight mused over her early-rising friend already bringing apples to market.  To already be carrying them off, it meant AJ had probably been up for hours already and working hard at her morning chores.  The unicorn looked over herself in the mirror and couldn't help but frown a bit.  She was slim and fine, which was quite the contrast to her farmer friend -- Applejack naturally had the subtle muscle that came from manual labor and carried it well.  While AJ felt intimidated by the scholarly endeavors, Twilight felt a tad jealous over her friend's strength and reliability.

"Ah well... to each their own."  Twilight shrugged as she finished preparing herself for the outing.  Ignoring Spike's snoring in the background, she hovered her saddlebags over onto her flanks and headed back downstairs.  "Alright, all set~!"

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

Applejack gave a bit of a grin. "Ah, Twilight." she was still at the book-wall when she came back, but the look on her face showed a kind of cluelessness, like she'd been staring at the titles, and not really reading them.  Ah, well.  She wasn't cut out for books anyway, but maybe like Rainbow, there'd be somethin' she would like in the world of books. It'd be something to ask Twilight about... Later, she reminded herself.

Twilight still had her bedmane, but Applejack wsn't much of one to comment on others' looks. Still... she should probably mention it. "Hay, Twilight." She lifted he rhat with one hoof when she caught her attention, and settled it back on her head. She wasn't quite sure what words to use, but maybe that would work.

Re: Ponyville Residential District - Books and Branches Library

Twilight lifted a brow curiously as she found Applejack passing the time in front of a portion of the collection she had, glancing over to skim the titles.  That section was dedicated to historical records about the self-aggregating communities of Gryphons and studies on traditional migration rituals.  A fascinating topic, but not one she would have pegged AJ for being interested in.  Perhaps her interest had been piqued by encountering that Gryphon chef during the baking competition they'd attended in Canterlot a few weeks ago?

Of course, before she could make mention, the Unicorn was reminded of the state of her mane.  She blinked curiously and crossed her eyes as she looked upward, realizing she was still a bit of a mess.  "Ah... heh..." once more her brush swung down to actually do its job, not allowing her to get distracted before her mane could be smoothed down.  In a few moments she had her bangs straight and streaks organized like they should be.  "There.  Now I'm ready."
