In Elson, Hite, and Van Kann's cabin, Ryker sees how the three are settling in.

Elson, the weapons inspector, asks, Is something wrong?

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Wong does both plots, the jump one first, the other as an exercise.  At this moment, we are how many planetary D's out ??  Just in case we have to pull that red lever ...  When time permits, he will do a couple random scans in that area, space junk in the departure lanes is never good.

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Anyone can answer the question (as we seem to have stalled).

Do you want to;

- immediately head to the quick jump point?

- stay your present course and hope that Wong is seeing things?

- something else?

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Stand  down from station...but I want one turret online and hot just in case...Sensors keep an eye out for any other contacts...Pilot, and nav proceed on on previous course." Sully switched to the crew only channel and gave the crew instructions." I want everyone to have a sidearm close by keep it out of sight of the passengers though."

"this is your captain speaking." Sully switched to public address and put on his best professional and collected tone." Sorry for the excitement. Some space junk tripped our sensors.. Nothing serious,We just play things safe when were carrying passengers. Just a little story to tell when your enjoying a drink at your destination. Be sure to tell everyone it was a fleet of pirates who the crew fought off with a single pulse laser and some well aimed rocks."

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Tybalt stays near the turret, just in case (OOC: am I the only one who has ship gunnery skills?) with pistol in holster.  Actually it was usually just easier to keep a sidearm nearby because when you needed one most, you rarely had time to run get one.  Assuming Sully doesn't call out an alarm, he will spend most of his time running training drills, picking an imaginary target then determining firing solutions.

"I'll inquire for you sir.  Can you describe the passenger?"  Ryker asks Lord Bailey then bows and departs.

"Let me know if you need any tools or access to ships systems."  Ryker says before leaving the doctor to his work and checking on the next passenger.

The comm he had been provided with indicates an urgent incoming communication "Excuse me" Ryker says and listens.  Then the ship wide announcement is made.
"Ah, it was nothing." With a smiles Ryker excuses himself.

Finding someplace private where passengers won't overhear, Ryker contacts the bridge.  "Did you mean for me to carry a weapon?  I've never used one."

Call it healthy paranoia but I do not like sensor ghosts at all." Sully commented to anyone else on the bridge., and anyone on the crew channel. <blue> Give me another sweep of the contact area..see if you can boost the sensor strength."

Sully looked at ease where he sat, keeping his expression and posture as close to normal as he could. He watched hsi side monitors checking in on the other stations and offering Tybalt tips on the gunnery station as he Kept the ship on course.

Ryker Jevekle:
"Did you mean for me to carry a weapon?  I've never used one."

"Well if your lucky you wont have to." Sully replied with a slight look of bemusement."If you know how to use a knife, or anything else just keep one hand, and keep an eye out for anyone acting strangely...I don't want to find out the hard way someone on board is a.....Problem....and if anything goes down. Remember pick up something heavy and hit the problem in the head with it....as long as it's not crew, or bystanders."

Yes, Bailey says waving his hand absentmindedly, The ugly one.

Of course...now go. In a voice like the Professor from Futurama.

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Over the crew channel,Captain, would you mind rolling the ship so we can scan a stern ?? Old pirate trick, keep them looking where you aren't. Wong does a quick navigation change as the ship maneuvers about and forwards it along to the pilot.  Perhaps we can orient the ship so that anything close by will be silhouetted by the planet we just left ... ??

Wong switches comm channels,Departure control, we seem to be picking up some space junk in our departure lane, we  are maneuvering to avoid it.

Copy the scan results and then run them thru the computer - having it look for occulted stars ...  If something out there briefly blanks out a star -- maybe we can find it ...  Do some fancy spherical trig work and focus the sensors in the correct direction ...  Just trying several things here in hopes something may turn up.

"Crazy Ivan in ten."Sully nodded as Wong requested a 180 flip. Kicking the grav-plates nt he starboard rear and port forward hull, he balanced the gavitics and the internal gravity systems to keep the passengers from noticing the hard turn. , or more importantly the cargo shifting in the hold."Ever wonder why they call that a crazy Ivan...Hell I don't think anybody knows."

{Reminder: whatever it is that Wong saw is maybe 40 hours on M-drive out. Avoiding it is as easy as using a non-standard Jump point, no fancy flying required...but there may be a negative for the Jump check.}

Wong, run one more scan when i bring us around, then we'll head for a secondary jump point just in case."Sully held the ship with it's nose opposite it's direction of travel as long as Wong scanned then flipped it back over waiting for the alternate jump point." I don't want to hang around to see if we are getting spooked by a sensor ghost, or if its something solid."

Ryker checks on Lary Hite and makes sure his needs are met.  Bringing up the cargo of wine and that another passenger is interested in acquiring some, Ryker works on brokering a deal.

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Captain Sully! This is Bob. I am in engineering looking at the long range scans that Wong made. It's hard to distinguish, but running a matrix of algorithms, I can pull out no less than four ships, not sure the size, all dragging a carbon-fiber net between them.

I suspect the net's properties scramble our sensors, as well as...well, if they got close enough - to catch us? Is that even possible?

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
"I've heard of it, just never saw anyone cray enough to try it....Good work Mr Smith. Relay those readings and the location of the ships to my console." SUlly replied as he began to maneuver the ship to the alternate jump point." Comms send this broad channel in the clear.
Adukgin Control and any ship in system."
He began as he keyed his mic. He left the crew channel open so the crew could hear what was being said, and then tagged the transmission with the ships transponder code, location and the location of the unknown vessels."All vessels all stations, This is the La Grenouille Frénétique   Pirate alert, I repeat pirate alert. . Four unknown vessels operating in outer system with capture net. They are using unknown system to disrupt sensors and detection equipment, Request immediate response to these coordinates."

To the unknown vessels This is Captain Sullivan Krate, if you approach my vessel I will take one of you with me on the way out.

Engineering prepare for jump, Sensors Get me a lock on those hostiles.Guns, weapons free, if they enter your range you may fire at will.

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Tybalt snaps to attention upon hearing Tully's announcement.  Before he was mostly paying attention and solving firing solutions when all of a sudden shit just got real and the firing solutions now became a life or death matter.  He starts actively scanning space for the previously mentioned targets.

Ryker goes somewhere private.  Fidgeting a bit with the controls, he replays the message.  He verifies that the passengers had not received the message.  Must be the captain wanted it to be business as usual.  Ryker adjusts his uniform and attempts to not look concerned as he goes about his duties.

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
Wong takes Mr Smith's findings and reviews them.  doing a direct 180 course away from the pursuing ships leads to ...  Wong taps numbers into the nav computer, looking for gravity wells and other stellar objects in the flight path.

Mr Sully, if they cast a net over us ... what happens ??  Shorts the jump field out ??  Alters the jump distance ??

Wong swivels the scanners about, if we are being herded into something ...  Mr Smith, I am aiming the scanners straight ahead, in case we have more ships there.

Re: Chapter 2: Adukgin System
"Best case scenario is that it just snags us and we tear through it, bend a few plates, tear off a few antenna...worst case scenario it snags us, the ships wrap us up and we cant maneuver, jump, or use the life pods...Or one of the pilots on those ships is an idiot, the nets send him off course to slam into us at a couple of gees." Sully replied privately to wong, as he nosed over lined up on the proper vectors and reached over to flip the lighting circuits to dim

I don't plan on finding out."He then flipped the safety cover off the master switch for the jump drive, typed his access number in and listened to the drives begin their power up sequence. With a final light rap on the main panel he triggered the drives and hopefully left the pirates far behind..
