The Morning After The Adventure Before

Sore heads greet the morning, and Sallantus finds he is still slumped across a counter at Thalvi's Place as the first light strikes him. It's mostly deserted, but Kordan is still there, staring blankly into nowhere in particular, his huge frame having weathered the storm of ill-advised booze after a long and stressful journey, but his mind...maybe not. Orinastron is stretched out on the tiles as if someone has decked him, but he's not hurt. The pool of blood by his head turns out to be regurgitated red wine.

Rhaskos is nowhere to be seen. Neither are Bitch and Bastard. Sallantus feels a wave of panic and flaps at Kordan as if to signal that something desperately urgent needs to be said.

Before Kordan manages to process or Sallantus to articulate the danger, Rhaskos appears. He looks more or less normal, as if he may have slept a little. He's come to summon everyone to meet their employer.

The meeting takes place on the quayside down at the docks, and Sanjar is there to translate between the party and Safra, while the crew of the Foamfollower watch from the rails in amusement. As it happens, Safra has little to say. Sanjar knows that whatever she may think of their condition this morning, she is relieved that the party has come back in one piece, and come back at all - neither he nor Safra liked the look, or the possible expense, of some of the alternative hires that had been putting themselves forward over the last two days.

The ship has been provisioned for three weeks at sea, as the only known ports in the general direction of travel are Tempigone (an island possession of the Korantine state of Himela), and Lyortha, where Safra's father was killed.

Plenty of time to rest at sea. But if you must re-stock or re-equip, best do it now. Perhaps too late to catch the wind today. But tomorrow, gods permitting, we sail.

Re: The Morning After The Adventure Before

Orinastron has yet to forge a relationship with the Ocean - he is a landlubber through and through.  He is facing the prospect of spending his time on a floating tree-branch with some quiet anxiety...

It occurs to Orinastron that he should probably stock up on things he might need but which he won't be able to buy or scavenge at sea.  Presumably the ship has plenty of rope that they could use if needed.  Other than that he would like to get a couple of sheaves of arrows and perhaps a little sturdier protection than his padding to have on hand in case the need should arise.  It's all very well being a skirmisher but aboard a boat it seems likely that he will not be afforded the benefit of distance at which to engage any assailants.... he really has no idea what to expect.  So perhaps if he can find some stiff leather braces and some sturdier protection for his torso and head?

In reply to Orinastron (msg # 2):

I have my old soft leather helm, sleeves, and trews (abdomen + legs) (all AP 1).  Size 14.  There's also the hard leather breastplate (AP2) with only a small hole in it left over from Franskom, also size 14.

I don't think Tanek needs any supplies.

I forget of Thyrta had a temple to Pyrolus or not.

If so - Kordan will make an offering at the temple and pray for a safe voyage.

If not - Kordan will make his own little altar down by the seaside and do the same.

In reply to Kordan Mardahar (msg # 4):

There is a shrine to Pyrolus of Borissa in a corner of the main square. It's the Borissan's own version of the god, and with no treaty between your city and theirs, you cannot gain/renew Divine Magic there, but you can make your observances as if a lay member. Make a Rites roll.

In reply to Simulacrum (msg # 5):

Kordan makes his way to the square, and finds the shrine to Pyrolus nestled between the massive construction works for the new city-goddess temple and the temple of the Borissan Syndics (the merchants' temple). Sallantus hurries along with him, Pyrolus being a friend to the marine who likes to keep his feet dry.

They pay their respects and makes a short prayer, before heading back down to the docks, where the foreign ship awaits them an unconsecrated tub (korantine ships are more or less floating shrines), but at least finely built...and Kordan thinks the Zenduf, Safra's captain, is clearly an experienced old boy(being maybe twice Kordan's age).

What has not been decided yet is the route. If the journey is to be broken, the only place to do so is Tempigone, a little island possession of the city state of Himela, ruled by an exiled aristocrat, Arko of Solarne. Passing close by the island is important in order to take a bearing, stopping there is not necessary unless forced into port by a change in the weather. And the weather looks like it is turning out fine.

Meanwhile Sanjar has had a little colour return to hsi cheeks, delighted that Rhaskos came by last night to report the party returned, aloowing him to drop his protection spell and start to recover his magical energies. He seems even more to cleave to Safra since you left Thyrta a few days ago. A little Insight suggests there is some fondness there - or to out it more crudely, that the wily sorcerer has successfully been inveigling himself into her confidence.

The loot also needs dividing. Safra is expecting something for her own coffers, since the expedition has kept the Foamfollower idle in port longer than it should. A third share, Sanjar declares, is the way in Morkesh to pay tribute to your sponsor.

Re: The Morning After The Adventure Before

I've posted a round-up of loot in the Money &  Equipment thread so am referring to that here.

After visiting the money changers and merchants the loot amounts to 445SP plus

• Tessenber’s Korantine single edged, curved shortsword. Decent quality
• Korantine Sunburts shield boss
• 5 star-shaped shield ornaments (Tanek, Kordan, Sallantus, Orinastron + 1 spare)
• Dagger w/ bone/ivory handle and fine iron blade. Nicely wrought pommel and lozenge hilt. (Kordan)
• Dirty but fine helm (SIZ13) cheek plates and brow ridge (4AP) 30SP value.

and the following items of unknown value:
• 3 rough-cut stones
• Small, bent  ladies’ gorget. Decorated with gold leaves and petals on copper.

The party consisted of Sallantus, Tanek, Kordan and Rhaskos with long distance  support form Sanjar and Safra staking a claim as sponsor.  Orinastron joined along the way.

Orinastron figures that for the four who fought Gorkas plus himself there's a clear 90 SP each.  But he's unfamiliar with the customs that would see a third share given to someone who wasn't even there and it turns out that the sorceror was helping out the others with his spells so he's probably due a cut too.

Orinastron is conscious that he's a way down the pecking order and doesn't want to upset this bunch as they seem both capable and amiable.

'I'd settle for the helm and enough coin to buy 100 arrows as my share, if you're open to that?  The helm is a little big for me but I figure with my cap underneath it will be fine'

That puts the value of Orinastron's share at 50SP (30 SP helm and 20 SP from the cash to pay for arrows at 0.2 SP each)

Orinastron will do what he can to clean and polish up the helm and fit it better (it is 1 SIZ too large for him but figure that will be OK with padding underneath.  Fumble - slips over his eyes?)

Re: The Morning After The Adventure Before

In cleaning his helm, Orinastron attempts to give it a good inspection but evidently fails.

16:54, Today: Orinastron rolled 43 using 1d100. Commerce (37).

I guess he thinks it's just worth the 30SP originally appraised.
