Re: Character Generation

In reply to Harowen (msg #21):

If you speak Thennault- we can definitely make it work.

Perhaps our parents knew each other and occasional visits led to early trips into the woods where both learned an affinity for the hunt, but only Rhaskos could pursue it. This would make our characters very close in a way that doesn't require "full disclosure" since their lives would have been lived separately, but would also make Harowen a very rare occurrence in Rhaskos life: a close childhood friend.

Rhaskos has a tendency towards being socially awkward, so a longtime friend could go a long way towards integrating him into a "party."

PM me and we can iron out the specifics, but I think this works.

@Simulacrum: No prob!

That's funny, I also had gone Taskan mercenary.
Char name is Tanek Sanasin, and he arrived in Thyrta via serving as a marine on Harowen's ship.

Re: Character Generation

Hi everyone. I suggested to Simulacrum that I try to roll a fighting character to add a bit of brute to the party. The dice disagreed:

STR 13 (on 2D6+6)
CON 6
SIZ 9
INT 13
POW 4
DEX 13 (on 2D6+6)
CHA 11
SOC 7

Hmmmm....

Look forward to playing Age of Treason with you guys.

Re: Character Generation

Greetings fellow adventurers to be,

may I have the honour of introducing to your illustrious company, the noble Iskander of house Chrysos, famed for his esoteric learning and language skills. Equally known for an easy manner with the gentler sex as well as his golden tongue. The rumours in the back street taverns of Thyrta that a lack of that very metal has all but forced him out of his ancestral mansion, is naught but the jealous mewlings of small-minded plebs about their betters.

Or in other parlance; Hi guys!

I've no issues with it. Not necessarily at one another's throats, mind, but having been in contention for the same choice duties, the same promotions and perhaps the same love interests - that's just good fun.

Hi all

Chargen is coming to an end, and thank you all for having some really good character ideas and putting real effort in. Let me know of any final approvals, advice or info you need from me - or admin such as changing character name.

Well, then, let me get to finalizing him, as he's still in a prototypical stage at this point. I'll finish up and post the results in the appropriate location.

Re: Character Generation

In reply to Simulacrum (msg #32):

1.  Are there bonus points (standard +10% per connection) awarded from previous connections?

2.  If so, is there a limit?  Up to 2?  Or 3?  Or unlimited (obviously up to the number of players)?

3.  Do the connections need to correlate with the experience (ie. the characters met, exchanged books and hunted together, thus one gets +10 track, the other +10 Education- that sort of thing)?

In reply to Rhaskos (msg #34):

~I'm OK with the RAW cap of 2 connections that give +10 bonus (per character connection) to a skill that represents or enshrines that connection. It's simply a reward for weaving stories.

but I do want to see some sort of relationship between the story and where the +10 is applied.

So as not to advantage some and disadvantage others, I'll allow some late additions to this as you get into why and how various people meet. ie metagame it in the first few rounds of play where it's not already set up.

To Tathas and Horrowen:

My character, Sallantus was a Borrisan marine. Perhaps his path crossed with those of your characters? He's never been of high status; low born, indentured military service, and since leaving the Borissan fleet has hopped from employer to employer. Some think him little more than a pirate. His SOC is just 4.

Oh, and to everyone, hello.

In reply to Sallantus (msg #36):

Korantine Sea Captain Kordan Mardahar at your service (formerly displayed as Harowen).

It's entirely possible that our paths have crossed at some point in the past.  I am not a ship owner, I am a ship captain, so I have been on quite a few different sailing vessels throughout the region.

I haven't lost a ship yet, but maybe that's due to excellent marines such as yourself?  Perhaps I studied spear and shield style with your unit?  Maybe we fended off pirates together?  Or maybe your drifting from employer to employer has ended up with your being hired on as a marine on my ship on an occasion or two?

PM me and let's explore some options.

Captain, is it all all possible you recently set out from Borissa to Thyrta carrying not only cargo, but passengers?
And having sailed the Inner Ocean as extensively as you must have done, perhaps learned discourse to while away the long evenings would have been welcome?

Nikolos Andrade's the name, and I'm an archer and skirmisher for hire, to whatever employer as has coin that's good. I'm looking for an excuse to have found myself here, though based on my skills, I know the area a little bit - more so than a fresh arrival by any means, and have likely been plying my trade here - although with my dearth of starting money, the plunder has been thin on the ground.

Nickolas!  Maybe it's possible that on some hired outing there was also a scout hired who knew the pay of the land?

That Scout could be Rhaskos.

We could hash out more details via PM if this sounds possible.

Last fall I delivered some grain from Sarestra, by way of Himela.  It's highly likely that I stopped on Borissa on the way down, if only for supplies.  I spent the winter here in Thyrta, spending my down time (and coin) on relaxation, the occasional hunting party, and waiting for spring and the return of heavy shipping activity.

If you've been in the area for any bit of time, we've probably ended up drinking and swapping stories together at Thalvi's Place, as I've been here since the end of last fall.  I've been relaxing, and visiting and hunting with my friend Rhaskos, and generally enjoying myself while waiting for spring to roll around again.

In reply to Iskander Chrysos (msg #42):
I do have a nice set of fancy clothes that I don't get to wear very often, and having good manners I would never turn down the invitation to be entertained by such an august figure as the scion of House Chrysos.

Did you know that I even speak a bit of that islander patoi they call Archipelegan?  So there I was, it was supposed to be calm sailing to some little island town I can't pronounce.  Then this raging storm blew in out of nowhere, by the time it weathered through we were two days off course, then this bountiful little island comes into view . . . .

Re: Character Generation

(This is Tathas under updated name)

@Sallantus (#36)
I arrived in Thyrta via hiring on as a marine in Tysil. (A merc has to hire on with who's hiring, even if it's not dry land.)  So I could certainly have been on the same boat ship as you. I'm envisioning more freshly arrived in Thyrta than Kordan's arrival in last fall.

@Kordan Mardahar (#43)
The captain of the vessel I arrived on didn't have any more work for me, but gave me a letter of introduction to you and directed me to Thalvi's Place as he knows you like to hang out there in the winter.

@jwpacker/Nikolos Andrade (#39)
I lately have served in Timolay and home town is Tarsang.  Perhaps we can have been stationed together?  Or our rivalry can be as simple as having met at Thalvi's, and started up with "A bow? What are we, hunting boar? No Tarsangian would condescend to using a bow when this here sling will do the job just fine.  You just watch, I'll show you how a real weapon works."

How much information is appropriate for the character description field?  Should we include non-secret backstory information there, or is a physical description only more appropriate?

Re: Character Generation

In reply to Simulacrum (msg #46):

I know in games I GM I ask that people include stuff that is visible upon their person, so that if other players want to reference your character, they can click on your description and make an accurate statement.

Otherwise you get:

Malcolm: "Malcolm turns to the fair skinned Rhaskos and says hi, noting the mans sword"

Rhaskos: "I'm dark skinned, bro.  And those are spears, not swords."

These types of mistakes during interactions are avoided by checking descriptions.

And for the record, Im not sure what Rhaskos complexion is yet. Probably a ruddy olive.

Oh, I like that. You're a slinger, I'm an archer - those debates heat up in an online forum, I can only imagine how they'd go in a bar, after a few beers.
