The Sound of Distant Thunder

Paris 42 hours after the events in Poland.

There are moments in life when all is right with the world.  The first rays of morning find their way through the curtains, bringing you to consciousness, and into such a moment.  The early morning sounds of Paris drift up from the sleepy streets below, and a warm, loving, and lovely figure is curled against you.  You smile as she slowly wakes.

Good morning.  We have a little time left, let's go to that cafe on the corner for breakfast.  Then we can come back and have a shower, then head for the airport.

Thirty minutes later you are sitting at a cafe out on the sidewalk, having breakfast.  It occurs to you how much you have missed such a simple thing as having breakfast with her every morning, even if the office cafeteria is not a sidewalk cafe in Paris.

You talk, not about anything in particular, but that brand of conversation where two people just wish to share the experience of being in one another's presence.  Work is very carefully avoided, the longer to extend this moment of peace and contentment.

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

In reply to GM (msg # 1):

As you are finishing breakfast a man approaches your table and shows you his badge, identifying him as a member of the Paris office of Interpol.

He hands a phone to you, which rings as you accept it.

Ben: Finally! I kept trying to wake you up, but the two of you kept hexing the electronics for a few more minutes sleep!  Jehuti was ambushed, some of the pieces stolen.  There are several suspects, but no one is claiming responsibility.  Orders have come down for you to protect the son, who happens to be in Paris, and escort him to Glasgow.  I'll have the security footage for you on the plane.

Also, Rebekah has been called back to the US, a car is on the way now for her.  Be careful on this one, Jehuti wasn't a vanilla mortal.  In some ways he was a fairly heavy weight, you can't have that kind of accumulated knowledge and not be.

Here's the address for Benjamin Jehuti.  He's currently staying at a hotel not far from here.  He's in his mid-20s, filthy rich, intelligent, now with ages of accumulated learning, just lost his father, and inherited a multi-national corporation.  Good luck.

After saying your goodbyes to Rebekah, you walk the 3 blocks to the hotel.  There is a car with 2 agents on the street.  Another is on the way to provide backup if need be.  The second vehicle should be here by the time you leave the hotel.  These 2 do not include the one coming to get Rebekah.

(I'm going to leave you on the sidewalk in front of the very swank hotel Benjamin is staying at.  This gives you the opportunity to make rolls, do any kind of prep or whatever you think you might want to do.)

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

Israel is limited in what he can do until he meets with Jehuti Jr. but he does collect his standard gear (though he is carrying his blasting rod instead of staff here, since its easier to hide in the streets of Paris.)

He does collect any easy to get ingredients he may need for fancy veils, illusions, masks, disguises, etc.  If he's gotta escort someone, its best to be prepared to make both himself and his charge look different.

He also collects any ingredients he may need for tracking and investigation typed spells - just in case this escort mission turns into a rescue mission, or Jehuti Jr. demands this becomes a "figure out who killed my father" mission.

Should any of this need rolls of any kind, rolls are 0 and -2, Plus whatever the appropriate skill would be (Investigation and Lore skill are at base 2, Alertness and Resources at 1, I can't think of any others that would conceivably apply).

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 3):

As you approach the hotel room, you hear sounds of conflict, furniture is being broken, lamps smashed, and lots of screaming.  While Williams is the muscle of your team, you know how to open a locked door.  Kicking it in, you advance, and find a scene you were not really expecting.  The furniture is indeed smashed, and there are 3 lovely French women who can't be over 23 or 24.  They are also wearing little to no clothing, are in various positions around the room, looking at you.  In the middle of the room is Benjamin Jehuti, the only one looking somewhat embarrassed.

Ah...Interpol, I hope?  Let's see, you are probably Israel Levy right?  I wasn't expecting you for a couple hours.  Sorry ladies, I'm afraid we're finished.

The women get dressed and leave.  Benjamin is a little slower, getting everything he needs to take with him.

I know why you're here.  The...transferal process started slowly a year or so ago, but yesterday it was fairly intense.  The amount of information I was learning was staggering, it hurt.  So I went to a club and started drinking.  Then I saw those three ladies, and the information hit me, I knew how to pick them up, and, um, you know, the knowledge was pretty convincing I could handle 3, so why not put it to the test?

I'm ready for business now, I guess.  How do we proceed?  Head for the airport and get to safety?

(That is the assignment)

As the two of you are leaving the room, your phone rings, it's Ben.

Boss, you gotta get outta there fast! Winter Court, a couple of Wild Fae, known operatives of Set, Neptune, and couple other bad guys are all headed your way.  It looks like they are converging on the hotel.  Iz, you're about to get caught in a crossfire as they fight for the new Big Brain.

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

"Got it...and don't call me Iz."

Israel turns to Jehuti Jr. "Ok, Don Juan, we've gotta move." Israel tosses another set of clothes and a wig at Jehitu. "Get dressed quickly. Hostiles are incoming."

Israel pulls out his chalk and draws a circle around himself and Jehuti.  Without a  lot of time, he's not going to be able to do anything very advanced, but he's going to throw together a quick illusion to slightly changing the way he and Jehuti look. (Functions as a block that adds to deceit checks)

Veil/Glamour set at 6 total (Drawing three at a time, giving three shifts to each character)
Rolls are 7 and 4 - success. So Both Jehuti and Israel have a plus 3 block against alertness or investigate checks to see through our disguises.

The idea is that all this happens within only a few minutes, so we still have time to slip out the door before hostiles arrive.

Should that succeed, we slip out as unobtrusively as possible.

Should that fail, and they make it into the room before we leave I Fus Ro Da (Set at 4, 4skill + -1roll +1 blasting rod = 4) anyone that comes in the door and push Jehuti behind the cover of a table, couch or other similar item.

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 5):

Benjamin is able to help your spell, causing it to add +4 to each of you.  It will last until washed away with moving water, or sundown.  Or you dispel it, or cross a reasonably strong threshold without permission, that sort of thing.

Your primary objective is to get to the airport.  There are two Interpol cars waiting for you outside in front of the hotel.  You can try for them, being disguised and such.  Or sneak away, letting the agents act as diversion, or possibly letting them not get involved.

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

I call Ben to get one of the cars to play decoy, and the other to circle around - make sure they are not being followed - and meet us a little ways down the street.  That way, if the building is being watched we're less likely to be noticed.

Deceit = Skill 2 + Roll 1 = 1 + 4 Block from spell = 5

Israel and Jehuti head to a stairwell and head out of the building to meet the car.

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 7):

Thanks to your magic, tactics, and a little luck, the two of you exit the building unnoticed.  You, however, notice several of them.  A fight is in the process of breaking out as your car pulls up, you check the driver to make sure he's legit, then get in after scanning the crowds you can see.

One of the heavies is a large man with no neck in a suit obviously inspired by Al Capone movies.  You almost expect him to pull out a tommy gun, then notice he doesn't need one.

Several operatives of what you think are the Technocracy are here, makes sense they would try to get at Jehuti. Several more factions you can only guess at for now.  One other stand out is a woman dealing dangerous amounts of damage, including taking down the wannabe gangster, who is probably an ogre.

As you drive to the airport, it pleases you immensely to leave them all fighting over a building that does not contain their target.

The car pulls into a private airstrip near the commercial airport.  Your Mossad Sense starts tingling, making you examine the scene before you.

The jet is waiting for you, but you notice other cars and people trying to look inconspicuous.  They appear tense, like they are waiting for something to happen.  While the two of you look like someone else, your destination isn't hard to guess, especially if there is a leak in Interpol, and considering the type of people you deal with, it could be anything from an intercepted comm, brainwashing, torture, or a spy.  Maybe just a guess.  Who knows.  but you don't think these guess are your backup. The car is at the gate, the driver is in the process of entering the code to gain entry.

Ah, Agent Levy? Is there a problem?  I have resources to help you if you need them.

(BJj has a large amount of knowledge, and can do a lot with Thaumaturgy, especially if you are the one providing the muscle, channeling flashy magic, he's a lightweight.)

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

Israel, not really having a specific plan of his own, simply explains the situation to Jehuti. "They're waiting for us. If we march over to the plane, even in disguises, they'll figure it out.  I could make us invisible, but they'd still see the plane take off, and without knowing what kind of firepower they have I can't guarantee they couldn't stop it from launching.  We could make the plane disappear, but they've already seen it, so that would make things worse. We could try blinding them with light, but I don't know if they're all outside and in the same area for it to work."

Re: The Sound of Distant Thunder

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 9):

<Aqua> We could try a distraction, I guess.  Are you any good with earth magic?  We could cause the building most of them are hiding in collapse.  Of course, with a little time we can warp the metal hangar, close them in for a few minutes.  That way won't kill them or horribly destroy the stuff inside.

Channeling that sort of thaumaturgy would be tricky though, without a piece of the building, though a circle drawn around it, then a circle drawn here with the same chalk or rock would do it.  Oooh! We could draw a  circle on the building, still need line of sight on it though, for simplicity's sake.

If you know any summonings, and one that would actually help in this situation, that would be another option.  We could try talking to them, unless you recognize them as enemies.

We could also pull the action movie routine, and run for it while using suppressing fire.  Of course, if they change targets and try to disable the jet, we'd be in trouble.

Now there's a thought...you go invisible and sneak to the plane, set up a cirlce or whatever you need, and set up a shield for the jet.  I know shielding a whole jet isn't feasible right now, but I was thinking about Star Trek...put all available power to the rear shields.  Signal me when you're ready, I'll come over and help the best I can. I should be able to stir up a small distraction while you are setting up the shield.

Any of those ideas sound good?</Green>
