B'Teavon!

Sol takes to you like a long lost friend returned.  Saturday, you get a call inviting you to lunch on Sunday.  It's a great deli, it's had some trouble staying open, so I'm hoping you go often, help generate revenue for my favorite lunch place.

It's hard to refuse such an offer, so you have lunch plans.  Sunday morning you go for breakfast in the cafeteria.  As before, you see several people, most of whom you recognize from around and eating here.  Rebecca and Ariel are eating together and you join them.

Ariel:Bonjour Izrayel! Have a nice weekend? You get to meet the boss tomorrow, as well as your partner, how exciting!  Oh, I was just saying to Rebecca here I don't know as I will continue with you to the temple.  No offense to your religion or your rabbi, who seems such a nice man.  It's the women who intimidate me.  do you know I had 4 offers for dates and not one of them by the young man I was supposeto go out with?  I can just imagine what that would be like!*shudder*

Rebecca laughs. It definitely takes getting use to.  Thankfully, the ladies have stopped trying to set me up, at least for now.  With my travel schedule, it's easy for me to avoid them when I have to.

Oh, Israel, I noticed you made friends with Sol.  I guess I should have expected that one.  Doesn't have a lot of friends, but he's a friendly guy.  Spends his time with the wife, at temple, or at work.  He owns Sol's Garage.  Decent mechanic from what I know, Interpol sends some business his way when our guys are backed up.

Re: B'Teavon!

Israel greets the ladies with a smile and "Shalom Aleichem" (Technically 'Peace be upon you', traditionally used as a greeting, often shortened to just Shalom)

He chuckles at Ariel's complaint, then replies to Rebecca with a shrug, "He seems nice enough, and I'm never opposed to befriending people that look like they could crush your skull by flexing their arms." He grins. "Life expectancy is usually longer that way."  He sips from his coffee. "So, anything I should know about Scotland, or its customs, or people? Everything I know about the area comes from American Movies and I expect that's a poor indicator."

In reply to Israel Levy (msg # 2):

Rebekah thinks a moment, cocking her head to one side. Glasgow's big enough to be international, without having that "international" feel to it.  You'll find a large amount of bars or pubs, which is great if you drink and like British and Scottish food. I try to avoid too much of it, that stuff really sticks to the bones.

Ariel mutters Yes, especially around the hips.

Rebekah adds: I mostly stick to the Southern section of Glasgow.  It's where the temple is, most of the congregation, plus, we have a deli, a mechanic, and salon all nice and close to the compound here.  There is another temple and Jewish community on the other side of town, northwest corner.  It isn't so much a Jewish community as a wealthy one.  Definitely white collar part of town.

East side's the poor side.  Lower income housing, lots of transients, migrant workers, crime rate is the highest there, and there is a steady drug traffic.

North is more touristy, West is the main business district, and there are a few grey spots in between.

Re: B'Teavon!

"Sounds straight forward enough. I'm sure I'll only get lost a couple dozen times before I get the hang of it." He chuckles to himself, "Heck, I'll probably have more trouble with the language than the streets.  English is an odd enough language as it is without everyone sounding like James Bond.  I hardly survived the airport."

With no other specific questions to ask, Israel makes smalltalk with the girls (unless, THEY have questions he needs to answer), finishes his breakfast, and heads out to get some basic shopping done before lunch (the bookshelf, beanbag, and lamp mentioned in his room in the other thread.)

From there he heads to the Deli, doing his best not to get completely lost on the way.

As you enter the deli, it feels...odd.  Almost refreshing, like you imagine a computer would feel after a reboot.  As you look around, you begin to suspect something odd about the interior design, but then you spot Sol...at a table for four. Sol has a look akin to a child caught doing something he wasn't suppose to. Sorry about this, she's a hard woman to stop when she gets something in her head.

Tola! I can't believe you are trying this ag--Yisrael?! Tola I'm going to...I'm going to...I I I

Oh hush now, making such a big production about everything.  What you are going to do is sit and have a nice lunch.  And if a nice Jewish man accompanies us, what's the harm?  It isn't as though he's completely ugly. Besides, you work together right?  It's good to get to know your coworkers. And I knew sol wanted to introduce him to Mark's Deli, so I snuck a look at his itinerary for the day.

Yisrael! nice to see you again. I see Sol brought you to his favorite restaurant.  Rebekah and I were doing a little shopping and I realized it was lunch, so we came here.  Turned out Sol was meeting you here, so we joined you.  It's like it was meant to be.
You notice she looks very satisfied with herself, and far away in the land of Israel, you can sense the approval of your mother, and something about a sensible woman to look out for her little boychick.

Hello again Yisrael.  Just so you know I was not aware of Tola's <i>scheming</>. she sends a hard glare at Tola, more of annoyance, but you are learning about Rebekah's temper, and notice it is subsiding now she's getting use to the situation.  Tola, for her part, is weathering the glare with the righteous endurance of one doing The Lord's work.

Anyway, it's good you found Mark's.  The brisket is fantastic, everything is kosher, if you follow the diet closely, and you can get take out. She leans closer and whispers It's also neutral ground, but I'll explain that later.
