We all voted to go back to Myth Drannor immediately, but we do need to figure out a base-of-operations before we go. The place we've been staying has been borrowed, and that family should be coming back any time now. Talindra is leaving us.
Building a Base
(a consolidated post from Discord)
DM: Okay, so this is a wider question for the group: do you want to set up a main base? If so, I'm happy to help make that happen. There will probably also be a lore reward for someone to help design it. If so, where do you want it to be?
WalkerNinja:
- We need a place to keep the stuff that we can't carry or easily liquidate
- Both of us eventually want followers--a base is requisite for that. That doesn't mean that YOU have to have followers, but for our continued enjoyment of the game, that's something I/we both find fulfilling
- We're in a site based adventure for the foreseeable future. Myth Drannor is our dungeon site. We need a place that is close to the site, but also close to markets, and which we can keep secure.
- Architectural engineering and stonework is a big part of Corym’s character, so that would be big for his personal fulfillment

Glen as base:
Per DM: Glen
wants to keep a low profile. Us building a base there and attracting followers would double the population, which is not a thing they want. They
are open to us building a secure warehouse with an executive suite for our living needs.
WalkerNinja's thoughts: Myth Drannor (MD) shouldn't be a permanent dungeon crawl. We want riches/treasure/magic so that we can go and do THINGS. Some of the things we get from MD are big and bulky. Others are niche and we need to find the right buyer. In both cases we need storage. Glen is close to MD, it's discreet, and it has discreet customers. It's ideal for this. Think of it like a well stocked safe house--not a base.
Of course, where we choose to build a base could impact whether we need to have a secure warehouse in Glen.
Per the DM:
On the other hand, the Dalelands in general are pretty open places. You could set yourselves up pretty much anywhere. So what I think the group needs to decide is what sort of place they want to develop?
New plot of land? Take over existing, likely-ruined manor? Edge of a town that will have you? Something else?
Also, because the Dalelands are so sparsely populated, it's going to take time for followers to arrive, and you're going to need to take steps if you want the full complement. Basically, you need to run something of a publicity campaign. It's not like you're a couple miles from Waterdeep, with lots of excess population who might be interested in a new start. Kitheras is a bard, which would help a lot
In fact, if all of you build strongholds in the same area, and you all get your full complement of followers, you'll basically be creating one of the larger towns in the entire Dalelands. Which is why, while I'm willing to do followers, I'm going to be making you work for it.
[Site 1] I like the Deepingdale/Highmoon/Bristar area which aligns closely with the interests of the campaign. They are the most densely populated with Cormanthan refugees. They are strongly threatened by Sembian expansion, and they are a major trade hub. It's a good market for offloading Myth Drannan treasures, and we can do our community investing there too. A warehouse in Glen is probably critical for this one. There's also a lake that heals elves, and Elorfindar, Karilla, and Talindra are all going to be there (so, connections).
Speculative Character analysis:
Corym: Highmoon is as cosmopolitan as it gets for the Dalelands. He'd have improved lines of communication with his handlers, and with his interest in returning elven artifacts to communities from the humans that stole them, proximity to Sembia is a boon.
Kali: Highmoon is as cosmopolitan as it gets for the Dalelands. Plenty of swashbuckling and derring do to be done here.
Kitheras: it's an elven community to whom his nobility would matter, there's deep woods, big game hunting and refined audiences for his performances.
Krackor: There are mountains and hills nearby for prospecting or perhaps establishing a dwarven colony
Tarron: An elven community to serve and protect and possibly redeem himself in
[Site 2] Elmwood/Elventree--keeps us much closer to Myth Drannor, and a hostile nearby power (Hillsfar) that our low-level followers could reasonably contend with in a less political/economic intrigue more warfare/robin hood style scenario. A warehouse in Glen would be irrelevant in this scenario.
Speculative Character analysis:
Corym: Hillsfar is douchey, and he'd love to pull a heist on them.
Kali: Plenty of swashbuckling and derring do to be done here.
Kitheras--it's an elven community to whom his nobility would matter, there's deep woods, big game hunting. He's for sure the Robin Hood type.
Krackor: This is the only option where there are prominent dwarves.
Tarron: Elves are getting holocausted by humans here. Sounds like a job for a bladesinger
[Site 3] Battledale/Essembra--ready built empty manor houses, former center of power for the Dales, so intrigues aplenty. Large market, good trade. Very close to Myth Drannor. A warehouse in Glen would be irrelevant in this scenario.
Speculative Character analysis:
Corym: Restoring old homes?
Kali: Plenty of swashbuckling and derring do to be done here.
Kitheras: Meh
Krackor: It's close to Glen!
Tarron: ????
[Site 4] Mistledale--start a colony in Mistledale. From scratch. Fertile lands, pretty boaring place. Blank slate. Good horses and proximity to Myth Drannor. A warehouse in Glen would be irrelevant in this scenario.
Speculative Character analysis:
Corym: A blank slate! I could design an entire society! Mwahaha!
Kali: Boooooring
Kitheras: Meh
Krackor: Ooo! Corym! Can we design dwarves into our society?
Tarron: ?????
Corym's preferences:
1, 2, 4, 3
Kitheras' preferences:
2, 1, 4, 3
If there are additional sites you want to consider, add them in. List your site preferences. This should be able to be decided upon quickly, and we can get back to MD.
We're taking out the Alhoon, right?
