Re: OOC

Breaker:
Ok, I'm kind of confused. Care to answer any of these Y/N type questions? Fully understand that it might not be possible to answer OOC.

1) Their are puddles (standing water) of "toxin" (water) on the floor of the barracks, but none in the Equipment Room?

By now there is rain water everywhere in different amounts. The open windows and open door let the wind blow around inside alot.

2) The "toxin" (water) in the barracks is not electrified?
Most of it is fine. The only person to get zapped was Echo who was touching electrical equipment.

3) The Equipment Room has raindrops splattered randomly about the room?
Yes, and a few puddles. Like on the lifesupport machinery where the outer case was removed by those working on it.

4) The "hull breach" was the open door?
Good question. "toxic" rain in coming in through the self opened windows and the door. The door is closed. Windows are being closed up.

5) The "hull breach" was the multitool?
Well if the rain comes in through the hole suppose it could be one. Thanks for bringing it up.

6) The windows are being manually cranked closed by the other Cadets?
One crank so one at a time. Blankets are being held up with duct tape.

7) The "toxin" is being mopped up by the other Cadets?
Yes

ayup

Boot Camp in ST isn't about a perfect score. Its about getting a good one while your weaknesses where poked. Forcing you to learn to overcome yourself. That's what the MI wants.

Re: OOC

Thanks for the clarifications.

Yeah, sometimes playing IC correctly can be strange as you do and say things that are nothing like what would happen IRL in the same situations. For instance, the only way you would ever get me into a Boot Camp is on some kind of Authorized Friends & Family visitation day.

I would be kind of "Private Benjamin":
You want me to wake up when? You do know that you need at least 10 hrs of deep, uninterrupted sleep, per night? And under no circumstances should consciousness be forced on anyone prior to... 9 am, right? I'm making concessions here because it is the military. So don't think I'm not trying to meet you half-way.

Re: OOC

I love military people but service like that is not in me, I support our soldiers and vote to not get them into stupid wars. But I'm family being a military brat. I remember outside a gay center three men were picking on me and a friend, I'm in a wheelchair well this big special forces guy who knew my dad and me came up. You know the quiet and respectful soldier you KNOW is lethal as hell. Well he stood up for me and said he fights for my right to be an American and as a base kid I was family, they mess with family well you mess with him.

Did I mention he was BIG.

Well they backed off and he escorted us both home that is class. I want to be that kind of Trooper in the game modest and great at ones job but not have to say it she is far from there right now she needs time in to shift to that mindset. You get there MI people will give my character respect she won't need to show it.

Re: OOC

Anyway I have my engieer type classic russian by the book inside the box practical work not creativity she is not in R&D she is simple what is wrong, how do I fix or do it, if not taught what to do tell the superior and let them find someone who does.

So of course she screwed up was she taught emergency procedures yet to know what to do? No. Don't blame her she blames the instructors not in the game its just they likely needed to find out how people react and she is - no teaching, no demonstration, nothing to base this on so no clue.

Re: OOC

Of course it is they need to see how we tick and work, then make choices. I would think for her they need to pair her with a creative engineer in the field and in school make sure her training suits how she handles things. Not an issue as a player makes perfect sense in fact.

But come on by the book is not bad as how one works she has a high memory for a reason that is how she learns. You cannot teach people to be creative its there or not there.

Re: OOC

LOL - I almost made a skill check with a d100. Just think how phenomenal would the results be on an average result.

That would be a 38 result on 1d8... Breaker single-handedly manually pilots the starship without any previous experience, while performing an operating system upgrade and reboot all at the same time, dodging plasma bug spray in geyrations that Moebius finds difficult to contemplate.

Oh, and he's managed to bake an absolutely perfect meal for the entire ship's crew, healthy and nutritious. Tonights' dinner includes honey-roasted ham, a cheese and spinach souffle, garlic cauliflower with (real) bacon bits, with a roasted red pepper sauce on the side. A simple sour cherry compote spread over a crispy, sugar-glazed puff pastry is for dessert.

Breaker does apologize for the lack of a wine - the admiral refused the request.

Ut oh, just made myself incredibly hungry!

Re: OOC

Intel Officer Haverson trumps Zim she was just following his orders and he never dismissed her, that is not her fault.

Damned Russians being in the box and by the book is they tend to be no trouble in some areas unless issued an unjust order as determined by SICON regs. At least she hopes so.

Re: OOC

GM's health a bit off as for whatever bunch of reasons I haven't slept for more than 30 minutes at a time since yesterday morning. Cuddles and peppermint tea with honey seem to be proving the most effective.

The next thing on the to do list is training gun battle scene, squad on squad.

Normally with Roll-One system I don't use maps. Just text descriptions.  For this one I am planning to try using a 10 x 10 grid. If we can get using that figured out we'll be better straights for using it at times later on. Other battles the size of each grid will change.

I'll have it set up shortly.

The battle will be taking place toward the end of basic, namely several months down the line. After much thought I think I will allow you the skill upgrades to your characters now.

That means the following can now be applied to the characters:

Special: Attribute increase +1 Endurance and +1 Strength
 12 skill points:
 +1 Tactics (Land)
 +1 Melee (Unarmed, Weapons, Shields)
 +1 Thrown Weapons (Grenades)
 +1 Heavy Weapons
 +2 Gun Combat (this is a +2 not +1 as it is primary focus)
 +1 General Fitness
 +1 Survival
 +1 Medical Care
 +1 Leadership
 +1 'chore' related (GM pick)
 +1 Choice of PC

The GM picked chore skills are:
 Taps = Admin
 Echo = Comms
 Sony = Medical
 Boomer = Engineer
 Breaker = Computer
 Shadow = Gun combat

As all of that will take a few real life days to sort out, espically with this being the weekend and some folks like Taps being away (it seems) the training battle will not start for a few real life days.

Please update your character sheets and let me know by PM what your "choice" skill +1 goes into.

IC Posting in the existing Camp threads returns to open for those who wish to do things at the barracks or other parts of the camp. Those might be any mid boot things during month 2 of boot camp.

Basic Squad on Squad IC timeframe is during early month 4.

Re: OOC

I pm'd her things up to the squad on squad fight. I will do light roleplaying and work on some things in the meantime

Did we get any liberty time during boot, just thinking 24 hours or something to get out and stretch our legs would not be uncommon. But not sure if you want any town roleplaying or not.

Re: OOC

One would assume that somewhere in the 4 months there is some town time. However, I doubt its every weekend. Maybe every two weeks an overnight pass.

There are several sets of training to go through so we need not attempt everything at once.

I thought that while you were in Boot Camp you were not issued a pass for any reason. Maybe the death of an immediate family member, but even then I'm kind of doubtful.

Re: OOC

In reply to Breaker (msg # 224):

Im not sure what Real Life Boot Camp has.

There is a leave vs a pass. A leave is a release from training time (middle of the weak) while a pass is you are allowed off-base for a day/night/24hours.

I do see the UCF as allowing the pass as a way that if someone goes AWOL they are a wash out. In the peacetime conditions you guys are in there are far more applicants then positions to fill. By law everyone can apply to be a citizen so the real challenge is to flush out the crap, find the good, and develop the good.

The best (you guys) get further developed with specialist training.

Going to visit a dead relative would have likely needed leave of 2-4 days for travel and affairs. Missing a chunk of training. Immediate family bereavement leave was okay but an Aunt isn't an immediate family.

Re: OOC

Well I asked my dad and he did have leaqve after the first month of boot, for one day at a time and if there was a real reason to go aka mom was dying or something you could go but had to redo boot from scratch.

Not a good idea in this game to ask for time to see sick grandma and of course command has to approve.

How about a "Town" thread for places not on base or on duty, down time.

Re: OOC

What if she doesn't want to drink after all she is Russian and they don't drink much of anything - save Vodka. :D

Seriously my character might go lots of places in town if a university has a free event going on that could be fun maybe student recitals or somthing. Meet some nice woman maybe worth something to have in her life or go shopping to buy something for family members. Or just get a hotel room, get a good private time and hang out at the pool. 24 hours offers nice options.
