Re: The Southern Pagans Continued.

Caith sniffs the rank air from within the cavern, not in distaste, but trying to tell the scent of rotting flesh from compost, manure, or the stench of algae choked still waters.

"Look twice, choose once." she mutters to herself, pondering the path, but sees no reason to mistrust the forestwalker's advice, for the capricious legs need not portend a similar head, even if one might need to be goat footed indeed to walk this way without mishap.

"Have a care how ye step down the crystal path, or yer quite liable to end up on yer arse..." the Hedgewitch warns, already wondering if the wine loving warrior ahead is as charmed on his feet with treacherous stone underfoot as he was with it suspended from naught but rope, strength and the secrets of engineering.

She follows the beckoning figure, watching her footing, looking around in the light she carries with her, and keeping an eye out for the tell tale shimmering that precedes it's final fading.

In reply to Caith Cernach (msg # 975):

As the group followed the Ùruisg down the 'steps' it slowly faded from view until it vanished altogether...

At the bottom of the calcite steps they arrived at a jutting shelf projecting into an expanse of black, still water, the ceiling sat just under a foot above the waters surface and they all had to get very low in order to peer into the expanse.

The low ceiling was studded with stalagtites and tree roots projected through it into the water in many places.

Re: The Southern Pagans Continued.

Usopi ponders the depths for a moment, before looking around for a sizable chunk of rock, or if necessary breaking a piece of the wall with his mace. While he was not fond of swimming in his heavy armor, water was not unknown to him, and he recalled fishermen on the lake near his home tying rope to a weight and dropping the weight in to the liquid, using the rope to measure its depth. he attempts to repeat the trick now to see just how deep the pool of black water is.

Usopi did so, feeding out his full ten metres of rope....the stone had still not touched bottom....

Re: The Southern Pagans Continued.

Usopi pulls back the rope, untying the stone and putting the rope away. He had no intention of stepping in to the pool if it was that deep, and he moved himself to the side of the tunnel to make room for others.

”If we can find no magical method of freeing the man from his prison, I would think it better to shatter him than to keep him locked away there. However, I can not reach him in these depths, and I will abide by the group’s decision if we believe it better to leave him as he is.” he says as he makes way for the other party members.

Re: The Southern Pagans Continued.

The Hedgewitch looks around slowly, studying the walls and roots as she considers their eerie beauty, their great age and their likely strength.

"I doubt ye'd catch many fish with a stone lure, but stranger things have been known to happen." is Caith's only comment as Usopi pulls up all of his rope from the unfathomable depths of the water.

Usopi Venia:
”If we can find no magical method of freeing the man from his prison, I would think it better to shatter him than to keep him locked away there. However, I can not reach him in these depths, and I will abide by the group’s decision if we believe it better to leave him as he is.”

"It would be wisest to leave him be if he cannot be freed safely, aye, but it is possible that we may yet find a way to do that, if not today, then another day yet to come." she replies pensively then suggests "As I have my own ways of seeing, I'd like to take a closer look for myself first."

After the handsome knight completes his own investigation, she wiggles and weaves her way to the edge of the water to peer into it's depths, wary of what she might see, but resigned to perhaps gazing into another scryer's pool in pursuit of whatever visions it may hold.

OOC: OK, so it's deeper than 10 meters, but is it so dark that Caith's MOONGLOW spell shows nothing either? Casting PEER or DETECT AURA would be her next step after taking a look under moonlight.

In reply to Caith Cernach (msg # 982):

Caith uses her magical light to peer into the depths, the water was remarkably clear and the surface stretched on into darkness before her.  As she looked down into the water she noted the light was reflecting off of small glass like flecks in the water, it took her a moment to realise they were tiny fish.

Peer as she might she could not see bottom, recalling Danns story she remembered that the person who had sighted the crystal had swum quite some distance across the surface before doing so...

Re: The Southern Pagans Continued.

Usopi had no new thoughts on how to extract the man, but he eyed the fey creature warily as Lann called him back. It seemed to clear to Usopi that the fellow knew not of the specifics of the magic that placed him or how to get it out, but he did not hold it against Lann to ask. He did however worry that the fey might get fed up with the party, and if that happened there was no telling what the strange being would do.

"There's enough handholds from the roof that it would barely be swimming..." Caith says dourly to Lann, tearing her gaze from the water.

"There's nothing but wee glasskinned fish that I can see below the surface of the water." she says, in more cheerful tone, followed by "Brass chest fella in a big crystal hanging from the ceiling, that's what Dann said, aye?"

She points at the roots hanging from the ceiling and says "Treeclimbing in reverse really, in a rainforest..." as moisture drips from the roots in the chill air of the cavern.

Caith offers "If ye consider this task beneath ye? Then turn yer back, the lot of ye. I'm nay keen on stripping off in front of an audience, but the dark and a touch of damp have never bothered me afore."

OOC: And I'm damned if Caith's leaving without a look at the fella herself either...

Usopi turned his back at Caith’s words. He would not wish to see her disrobe if she planned on swimming in the pool, hand holds or no he would not be going in to the water. He never was a fan of taking his chances in seemingly bottomless pits of a substance he could not breath in.

Re: The Southern Pagans Continued.

Caith wastes no time in stripping off her pack and slipping out of her wolfskin robes, then the rest of her clothing, unwilling to be encumbered by waterlogged material.

She takes the dagger from one boot, and ties it to one thigh securely with two strips of bandage, then checks that the thong of the pendant hanging around her neck is tightly tied as well.

The Hedgewitch detaches the gold wires of her coin earrings from her lobes, tucks them in her pack and says "Might be an idea to light a lantern if ye have nay wish to sit in the dark 'til I return." to the knights, then simply slides into the water, serene as the moon dipping below the horizon of the sea.

She seems entirely unconcerned about swimming from one tangle of treeroots to the next, looking at the larger teeth of calcite hanging from the roof as she passes near them, and watching for the flicker of her borrowed light that warns of it's waning, ready to renew it's light.

Usopi turns back around once Caith is in the water, and nods at Lann’s request. He reaches in to his pack and withdraws a lantern, lighting it, and then setting it down on any level spot of ground.

He eyes the gear, but speaks to the fey fellow as he does so, ”I apologize for my companion’s.... eccentricities. We appreciate your assistance. Do you happen to know if anything lives in this lake aside from the small fish? It seems quite large for creatures of such size.”

The creature was already fading again but turned at Usopis words, " Apologies are not necessary to me....but I know not if She still considers these waters hers...and what other waters they connect with.", it finished with a whisper as it vanished.
