Looking at the IC posts no ones fleeing.

Aphail and Gat are still fighting.
Beathan and Usopi still fighting.
Deise is trying to get back to the fight.
Sir Uthern, Brannon, Holt and Garam are making a fighting retreat towards the dwelling.

If I'm reading right she has enough juice for one more GH and then is tapped out unless she borrows one of you potions.

Usopi’s intention is to fall back, but still being defensive so as to keep the civvies and Brannon from getting swamped. I don’t know how that’ll work in game rule system wise, but I’d definitely like to begin falling back toward the house.

In reply to GM (msg # 9):

According to my notes, yeah, she's got the MP for one more GH after healing Usopi, then she's down to a few Yoyo MP from Detect Aura and Third Eye if she can cancel them in time, and one full Healing Potion in her belt pouch. Herbalism takes time to use, and Beathan's already on the job there.

If Caith gets a spare round to cast her scroll of Transfix on the shades, she'll use that. Magic items don't do the PC any good if she doesn't use them, but she has to be able to see her targets, or it would have been more use 1st round.

Can't flee. Where ya gonna run to? Straight into a wall of darkness. :(
Fighting retreat back to the house is about all the PCs can do as far as I can see as a player to reasonably do, and try and hold them off from there.

Every other plan I've thought of so far just seems to get the party ripped to bits slightly faster. At least calling the sheep in makes it difficult for the shades to get to the house for a little while, and may slow the rate of attrition due to panic.

Re: OOC Thread 6

Trolls have comparatively simple motivations compared to the more sophisticated evils of an advanced civilization like humans have. That being said, there are plenty of humans just as stupidly greedy and violent as trolls, and it takes a certain level of smart to be really inventive in one's cruelties.

A Troll Witch would have just beaten the crap out the party by fist and spell, then eaten them alive slowly, feet first.

So if these are some kind of recently blossomed into greater threat local evil cultists, apparently the party are a catalyst to their actions suddenly taking a turn for the worse.

Um, it's just occurred to me that maybe the cultists think the PCs are their 'monster encounter' to kill, loot and level up?

Lol, lucky round to make up for the unlucky one. :P

So just to make sure I’m on track, people still outside are myself, Beathan, Lann,  Aphail, Gat, and Deise, though Deise is touching the outside wall of the house. The sheep are still not locked away in the wool shed, but they’re on their way and the sheep dogs are assisting in that.

In that case, everyone outside just needs to run and attack Aphail’s enemy so that Aphail can get his quarry bolt and retreat as well, cause he can’t until he has it back or he’ll just bleed out?

In addition to saving Aphail, I feel that unless something is dine to break the spell that Deise will be blind. I am not even sure that breaking the spell aill cure the blindness.

In reply to Aphail MacRoach (msg # 21):

Ok so how do we survive or turn this around. The singing - may have worked and we got some luck. But Lann and Usopia are injured, Uthen is mad and injured, Aphail needs the quarry bolt back, the dog is injured, Deise is blind - Caith seems fine but must be running low on spells.

The next two rounds need to go our way or we are in serious trouble (and have no idea why)? So anybody have a credible plan now that we are back together?

Btw - having not played DW in 30 years it is actually refreshing to play a game where the threat of death or disaster is real. Also I have not played online before and the written narrative is very compelling - I used to find battle scenes boring. Online because it is slower seems to be more descriptive with a greater room for role playing ironically. Thanks to all of you guys/gals.0

Re: OOC Thread 6

lol, I know what I’m replacing Usopi with if he dies/we get party wiped. :D

The house itself only has a couple entrance points right? So it forces them to come at us in a more controlled fashion, and lets us trade in and out of the front line as necessary. Plus the hearth fire Caith had the civvies light may help out. The singing seemed to be really effective as well, so the non-coms can just keep singing to calm the sheep. (Which, if the baddies feed on fear, may actually weaken them.)

Wow, what a round! I'm spent (Fatigued) and only harsh words to throw at these things. So, I favor retreat. BTW I also have two healing balms left for those that need it.

Aphail, I couldn't agree more about the RP. I look forward to each morning to read the night's chatter. cRPGs have made me lazy. I wanting to contribute more with the words.

Aphail is VERY close to dropping RA, and getting his arrow back, next round hopefully.
Then we'll know how many hp they might have.

Next would be to drop RB, who is wounded, -9hp I think?

I think you can still use spell mastery :o)

It has two doors but one of them looks to not have been used in years and has a table in front of it. So just the one entrance.

Re: OOC Thread 6

Caith is probably only fine at the moment because she's too busy to think past the next crisis, and yeah, she's burning through MP quick healing...

OK, Alphail isn't dead, even if he is bleeding, and the shade that's got his Quarrybolt stuck in it is getting a damn good kicking. That's good, but I do have a suggestion to make: Would tying a light but strong line to that bolt - like a fishing hook and line - work as a solution for this sort of situation in future? Right now, hitting that shade in combat with Alphail and Gat looks like a priority target to me. Got to get that bolt back.

So the sheep came running in, bar the ones the shadow on the wall got to?
Good. Panic is contagious, so less of that about, the better everyone, man and beast, will be for it.

Usopi is also getting hammered, but Caith just stuck him back together, and he's already in fighting retreat. Defending from the house, as Usopi points out, offers more control of entry points and forces the shades to operate in a better lit environment. Godsdamnit, they hit Gat again?! Grrr...

Uthern is hysterical with fear, and to be fair, given all the scary stuff going on? That's entirely understandable. Not slapping him IC for it either, as it would be too much like hitting a baby for crying. Caith doesn't hurt children, nor an adult driven to childishness in utter terror.

Deise is blind, that's bad, no argument there, but not dead. If it is caused the spell effect Lann suggested it is, I honestly don't know if that blindness can be cured with time, mundane medical treatment, or only by magic.

As to why blinding rather than death? It's generally a more reliable a method for stopping a foe than just stabbing them for a spellcaster. Also archers make many spellcasters nervous, probably because they share the ability to do damage from a distance. They also called Deise a little mouse, right? Could be the proverbial cruelty of a cat playing with their prey at work.

OK, question what makes Deise characterize the voice that spoke to him in the dark as a He? Not upset, no feminist lecture incoming, OK? I'm just wondering why you reckon it's a fella out there in the dark, or if that's just a default descriptor. In short, if that voice in Deise's head has a gender, that's a clue to figuring out how the foe may think and react.

Beathan is out of magic, but damn, it was good while it lasted, and maybe bought enough time to back away to the house in fighting retreat.

Brannon is doing what he can, and may be our best source of info on likely ways to counter this darkness crap. Him singing the sheep in helps too.

Lann, well, 1 Health back is better than none back, and you are helping hold the line to fight a retreat back to the house. Tank it out and back the other warriors up. You still have a grip on your courage IC, and functional sight, so you're doing well enough to help the others out of this mess. Singing along with the farmers might help too.

Lann's a professional entertainer right? Just think of it as a really hostile crowd, and hit them with everything you got vocally as well. In case of sonic attacks, what does a bard usually do? Sings their heart out...

EDIT: Tucking fypos...

I can also pass off a Healing Balm to Usopi.

I should be able to cure that, but it will need time. So after the battle.

Your guess is as good as mine. It could be fear, the more fear the bigger the gain for the puppet master directing these things.

Re: OOC Thread 6

Yeah, I’d think they blinded you because if you’re blind then you’re incapacitated AND still feeding them the fear that I’m pretty sure makes them stronger.

In regards to Gat, I’d hold off on healing him. If he takes another hit he’ll be at zero and I’ll pick him up and carry him back to the hut and somebody can heal him back to consciousness, but I’m hoping the odds against him getting hit again are pretty good with me backing Aphail and Gat up (for what is hopefully that shadow’s last round alive.)

Yeah, that forcefield last round probably saved my life. :D

And fishing line attached to Aphail’s arrow on a spool at is belt could be very useful if it doesn’t mess up the aim and trajectory of the god arrow.
