I don't think the 'ambush' is for us?  Shooting arrows in the ground at your feet is a warning, NOT an attack.

In reply to Deise (msg # 963):

'Rhongomyniad the Striker' would be Ron.
Magic spear, and a big name in the tales, frequently shortened by lazy scribes who didn't want to have to write the whole name out all the time.

Vallandar is a domain in Germany dating back to celtic times IRL.

Grellen is likely aggressive by name as well as nature. That's one of the ususal meanings of 'Grell' in German.

Caith knows Old Kurlish well enough to work that much out.

Re: OOC Thread 6

Just confirming I've read right thus-far, and a question.

Caith Cernach from a healing standpoint, the 2 knights from a profession standpoint, we'd all know our way around horses? So to confirm and ask - is it a mare, is it behaving as a wounded mare giving birth? If it was a car I'm assuming it'd be like a mechanic and a pair of racing car drivers looking under the hood. Can we get any more info? Namely, can we rule out this horse isn't in labour?

Ps - how much were the meals and drinks back down the road.

In reply to Sir Turren Uvedale (msg # 967):

I am not the GM, however I can offer the following information...

Caith's no knight, and she'd be more experienced in sheep, goat or even cattle midwifery than horse obstetrics, but the principles are roughly the same for a horse and a cow.

Wounded horse might well go into labour after healing, or have already been in labour before being wounded, and stopped or slowed while the horse was comatose and dying.

The teeth are what's worrying Caith. Born with a intact birth caul is unusual, but not out of the realm of normal quadruped birth, even born with a full set of baby teeth happens often enough to be natural, but fangs? That's a new one...

She can't condemn a new born creature sight unseen, nor can she leave them to suffocate in a birth sac though.

And in answer to your other question: 2 Silver Florins/per person, I believe, plus another Silver Florin or more for drinks, depending on how heavily folk were drinking.

Okay, unless I'm told different I'll wait on your (Caith's) next move and follow her up rather than throw a javelin in her science project preemptively. I'll scratch 8 florins unless GM states otherwise.

If Mari's offspring tries to bite anyone, it will probably be Caith, and she's already wary of horse teeth at the best of times.

I'd always had a good chuckle at the fact that Arthur's spear was called Ron. I hadn't realised it was a contraction from a longer name... or, I see from Wikipedia, the word for spear.

Now I feel like a fool! :D

So we have a dozen Men-at-Arms who appear to be wary of a pregnant horse?

Meta: Its a supernatural creature right? Aphail might be able to kill it with his Relic Arrow?

In reply to Aphail MacRoach (msg # 972):

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but there's a dozen armed men, some pointing bows at the PCs right now, and you're worried about a possibly supernatural horse?

Caith's dealing with the horse situation. Not a whiff of sorcery on either horse or foal(?). No spear either. Turren's got javelins, yeah, but no spears, and definitely no magic ones.

The armed men haven't said anything about the horse, so we have no idea if they're wary of Mari or not. I'd say they're dire need of a sit down, a drink, and someone to talk to by the look of them.

If it turns out that Mari's birthed a monster intent on devouring everyone in sight then sure, shoot the monster.

In reply to Caith Cernach (msg # 973):
Yep, thats a good read of this situation. As it stands, Aphail and Deise are within an easy bowshot of the 8 bowmen. The U's, Caith, Leaf and Brannon are in less immediate danger from the dirty dozen. Deise is gambling that they will talk when offered a drink. They seem desparate.
He has no intention of shooting first and if the point the arrows down then so will he. Hopefully the offer of Gonds cider will sway things. Only thing that I wont rule is that they are batshit crazy. I mean it's a bit nuts to accuse 8 heavily armed people you've never met of the theft of a very specific legendsry artifact.
Unless that is the Boars spear? That was highly magical from recollection. If that is what they mean we are in trouble. Then these are nobility that have been deposed by Corbin, implying the might be close to Darian.

Re: OOC Thread 6

If they've got a beef with Corbin over Ron, then what the hell are they doing out here looking for it?

They're either completely lost, very polite for would-be bandits, or mad as hatters.

Redhead 'Knight':
" Parley? Nay, give back what was stolen and we might not kill ye."

And in response to Deise's query as to what was stolen:

" A spear, Rhongomyniad the Striker, in Sir Grellens family since the days of Vallandar."

Now a spear is a heard thing to hide about one's person, even in long robes. Turren's got a javelin or two IIRC, Caith's got a staff, not currently on fire, and that's about it. Alphail had a spear, but he sold it back at the castle, so there's no spear here that Caith's aware of.

So if they're going to kill the PCs just for not having the spear they're allegedly looking for, then they chose poorly.

Just re-read this again.  Does this look like a natural birth!  Do this look like a natural foal?

Re: OOC Thread 6

I'm a bit unclear about how much our various characters can see. Brannon is still on the road, and more concerned about the men than the birthing horse (which he hasn't taken any close look at). How far off the path are Deise and Aphail? Is Brannon able to see the men, or just hear the voices?

Thought I'd check this before deciding on actions. Don't want to trigger a panic by approaching from out of sight!

Brannon is now able to see everyone as the men have emerged from cover in the woods.

Deise and Aphail are about 50m from the road on opposite sides, the men are 5-10m further out.
