It's odd, if the sheepkiller has minions like this at their command, then why on earth did they ever leave anyone alive, and just stuck to knocking off sheep?
What do they want? Blood? Animal sacrifices? Feeding off the fear rather than flesh? Power over the valley? Suffering for amusement's sake? Stark raving mad?
It just doesn't make sense, unless they either want one or all of the PCs dead, and don't give a damn about the locals, or they want someone from the family here? But they could have taken them ages ago, long before the PCs showed up.
My wild assumption, with no knowledge of what these things are, is that it has to be fear, and maybe they’re ridiculously powerful now, but they can’t have always been. If they feed off fear and grow stronger the more afraid people are in the area, then it would make sense to staft with sheep until either they were sure they were strong enough or people showed up to stop them.
We definitely underestimated what this fight was going to be because it was just sheep killings.
If we can live long enough to fall back to the house then I imagine we can pull it out because the tight defensive perimeter will let us dictate which of us is engaged and when. If the sheep can be called in to the house then I’m all for it, but at this point I’m alright to let these things have the sheep and just pay the family compensation for their losses. Better to lose money and fail a mission then for all of us to die. :P
