Is that a Rupert Giles quote?

Snyder, but he's speaking with Giles.

Leofwyn:
I, too, have lost track of the time and the days. I have begun my teaching placement with 30 twelve year olds... so I may be posting slower than usual.

It's getting excitingly close, though...

Ah, students.

"I mean, it's incredible.  One day the campus is completely bare.  Empty.  The next, there are children everywhere.  Like locusts.  Crawling around, mindlessly bent on feeding and mating.  Destroying everything in sight in their relentless, pointless desire to exist."

And that's just in the staffroom...

As the child of two teachers, I can confirm that the 'hive of scholarly activity' effect is not confined to the students.

Re: Absence and Hiatus Thread

I regret that I am a little too merry at the moment to post responsibly IC.

I will deal with the after-effects of my celebrating a momentary blip in the pattern of 2020 reality being largely horrible in the morning, by the power of VitB and rehydration.

Merry Change Of US Government to you all, and a good night's sleep too. :)

Will be back this arvo.

Got to go argue with a government department decision first, and as that requires me going in person to argue over it, I'll be off line for a bit today.

Hey friends!

In a few days I'll be heading back to Mallacoota (where I was stuck last year with the fires) to cook for the same camp that's running again. I'll try to come on here in my downtime in the evenings, but I may not be able to for the two weeks.

Re: Absence and Hiatus Thread

I am exhausted after sorting out the multi-family festivities over the last two weeks, and I apologize for my slowness in posting IC.

That said I will try to post later today after some much needed rest.

Thank you all for your continued patience with me, and a Happy Holiday Season to you all as well.

Cheers,

Probably not the best time to disappear, but I'm off on holiday out in Northumberland for the next week. Will post what I can, but normal service will resume on the 7th of June.

Congrats!

My condolences to your partner, I hope they are a very good listener with a very patient and understanding demeanour.*

Thanks everyone!! It's a very fun, yet stressful time!

I've been recounting our tales to my fiance, and he seems politely impressed! He is a fellow nerd, but has never role-played before, but I think I am slowly convincing him! :D

Well you know what they say “couples who play together stay together…” although I cannot provide any empirical evidence to support that assertion, having had one girlfriend describe rpgs somewhat dismissively as “Barbie dolls for boys” - offensive on SO many levels… 😆😆😆

Re: Absence and Hiatus Thread

Still abiding with my irl partner of many decades now due partly to a shared love of RPGs. :)

And there's nothing wrong with Barbie Dolls. Given Barbie was inspired by a Bild magazine cartoon character with as much sass as she had sex appeal, Barbie for Men would be Lili.

Mag put out a mascot doll of Lili, with a wardrobe of fashionable clothes, aimed at male readers, and she was so popular with little girls as well as dads in Europe that Mattel copied the format and sold millions of Barbie dolls as a result.

Turns out that little girls wanted sophisticated ladies who looked like movie stars rather than child-like dolls. :)

Re: Absence and Hiatus Thread

My lovely partner of our 11 year relationship has a healthy obsession with Warhammer Fantasy and pretty much all things horror and grimdark. She played a barbarian in a 6 year D&D campaign; and a pirate (with knight stats) in our Dragon Warriors campaign (our first TPK it was very romantic).

In our home brew, which is current, she runs a swindler bawd type lass who belongs to the town militia. She runs an RR80 Dark Elf Disciple of Khaine on Return of Reckoning MMO too. She used to have barbie dolls too apparently, but I see no evidence of this. The trick is to screen people on the first date. The keepers will be curious about rpgs, the rest will be dismissive. The curious ones are probably worth bringing into your life, even if they don't end up falling in love with RPGs. The dismissive ones... Well lol.
