Re: ( IC) Lacklaw and surrounds.

The companions steady themselves for battle when suddenly a large, rather sick looking, walrus breaches near the ship.

The huge serpents attention is captured and it fixes its eyes on a more filling meal tracking the walruses somewhat erractic movements through the water. The Serpent strikes downward sending up an enormous wave that crashed against the side of the ship, all of them hold on to avoid being washed away.

When the water is wiped from their eyes they note with amazement that the walrus is still diving and swimming in circles not far off the ships port side, the serpent surfaces again and roars in frustration at the beleagured pinniped.  It crashes down on the walrus again sending up a huge plume of spray, but amazingly the orange skinned beast somehow manages to evade capture again.

The captain calls out, " Haul away! While it is distracted! We must get as far from here as possible!"

OOC: I'm going with the idea that, so far, everyones eyes are firmly fixed on the huge nightmare machine in the sea and not taking much notice of what Kores is doing.

In reply to GM (msg # 823):

"The thing is hungry.  Do we have anything to put it off?  Spices?  Mineral oil?  Contents of the slop bucket?!?!?"

(Kores will keep it up until it expires or somebody comes up with a better suggestion, since he can't send it out too far...)

"Och, it's a whopper!" Rabbie stares in amazement at the enormous walrus. "I cannae ken how such a big 'un can move so fast!"

He nocks an arrow to his bow. "Should l shoot it, let the beast have a feed?''

Grwn watches the spectacle with incredulous amusement.

"Stay your arrow!" The warlock yells to Rabbie over the splash and roar of the beast. "Let's see how this plays out..."

OCC: Grwn has three Spell Points left, just enough for 'Havoc'. He'll blast the creature if it gives up on the walrus and shifts it's attention to the ship. In the meantime, Grwn will grab some nearby rope and loosely lash himself to the mast; tight enough to catch him around the waist and hips if the ship is tossed too violently, loose enough to free himself of the lashing if the ship capsizes and he has to swim free.

"Well, if it wants to eat..  get *READY* to let him have it!!!"

Kores will, assuming that most people have a missile weapon and ready to fire.

He'll get the Walrus to take to the air.  Assuming the serpent will open its mouth, everyone can get a shot in....

In reply to Kores Varias (msg # 830):

Grwn hears the banter between Kores and Rabbie, and gleans their intention. He recalls the arcane syllables of a spell in his mind, and prepares to cast 'Havoc' at the required time...

OCC: If/when the GM presents the situation where the serpent rears it head--facing the ship, mouth agape--I'll blast it with the spell.

Dann looks at all everything that is happening, then looks at his dagger and realizes that it is probably a futile weapon whan trying to take on such a huge monster at a great distance. Heeding the call of the ship's captain, he starts to haul with the others.

Rabbie has an arrow ready.  He balances himself, trying to gauge the rise and fall of the ship and how to compensate.  When the Kraken's mouth opens to swallow the walrus he will loose the arrow.

OOC: Rabbie will use Precise Shot, sacrificing 6 points of defence for +2 attack.

While Grwn concentrates, he can't help notice Brenar's helplessness. Grwn gropes among his gear and yells out to the warrior.

"Brenar! Here..."

The warlock lobs his spear to the warrior.

Re: ( IC) Lacklaw and surrounds.

The sailors aboard prepare to row and then all stop their eyes staring skyward as the walrus rises into the air and begins flying about as light as a sparrow....

The captain is also caught up in the spectacle and stands there slackjawed.

The huge serpentine creature cocks its head to the side as if slightly confused but eventually its hunger wins over and it lunges at the walrus mouth agape.

The creatures jaws distend so wide that the companions cannot fail to hit when they launch their attacks.

Rabbie lets fly his arrow, Brenar casts Grwns spear and Grwn summons scintillating energies which fly towards the creature and strike it in the throat.

The walrus vanishes with a faint popping sound...

It rears back with a sudden gurgling hiss and regards the ship balefully but a second later it dives beneatht he surface and is gone.

OOC:

Didn't bother with attack rolls as it was taking up the entire sky from your viewpoint.

Arrow and spear did damage. ( 4 + 4)

Havoc did 13hp damage.

Kores gets two mp back as he cancelled the spell before it expired.

Critter decided to say bugger this for a game of soldiers and go catch some herring.

Grwn, unsure the danger is passed, reaches for his bow and arrows, notches a barb, then confirms the lashing secure around his hips. The warlock scans the sea around the ship, ready with an arrow lest the serpent resurface.

The captain called on his men again to row away and the ship began to move once more.

After they were a kilometre or so away from the scene of the attack the captain got down from his place at the bow and wiped the sweat from his brow.

He came over to the companions, " Jag ha' no seen such a ting in my lang years....you all have our thanks!"

Kores will be taking notes based on his limited recollection.  More aquatic creatures to be documented for posterity.  Who knows when these things will be extinct?  He wished the beast took a bite out of the ship, a tooth or scale would've been helpful in proving that his estimates were correct.

Grwn breathes a staggered sigh of relief, now that their troubles have passed, but wary of the dangers ahead. Exhausted from his exertions, the warlock whispers words of cancellation, dispersing the magical energies that fill his body with fearlessness and exuberance. He stows his bow and arrows back among his gear, then takes a heavy seat against the mast he's lashed to. Grwn closes his eyes to rest, but opens one to check the lashing...
