In reply to GM (msg # 771):

OOC: Is it like a tavern, with a bar and a barkeep, or just tables?

Grwn takes a seat, a polite distance from Morrie, with one eye on the door and one eye on the service. He hails an attendant and orders a round of cider for his friends, Morrie included.

OOC: How many pennies or florins will that set me back?

OOC: Its more of an earth floored shack built of wood and pitch. There is one small table and two saw-horse type benches. There is no one else here but Morrie.

Its basically a storeroom with a cider press.

They don't have much use for money out here, she'll probably want to barter.

Grwn, removed from the conversation, cringes at the barbarians lack of tact, but continues to listen intently...

Sometimes the direct route was the best one, he thought.

Grwn fills a mug of cider from the tap. As the cider flows, he retrieves a florin from his pouch. The warlock walks over to the table where Morrie sits, places the coin on the table, then covers the florin with the mug. He then proceeds to slide the mug over to Morrie, with a gratuitous smile. " Aye, dannae trouble them and they shouldnae trouble you.",she winked.

" Shouldnae...yer friend isnnae the first to be elf-bit in these parts and he wont be the last."

"If'n yer thinkin' to go out and teach them a lesson I'll advise against it. They're little buggers but they're vicious as Old Blackie and twice as fast."

She examined the coin Grwn had pushed across towards her and grinned a gap-toothed smile, " And what should i do wi'this, boyo?"

"From our recent experience, it would be inadvisable to seek any form of vengeance.  Their childish, fickle ways can only be contained by the inevitable progress of man as we destroy their habitat.

..I am curious as to whether there are other locations of historical value.  Although I might be inclined to ask those who have existed before the Selentine Empire, I doubt they would take an interest in the affairs of man.  Where else can I find more information on the ancients that existed before men became 'civilized'?"

Dann feels the frustration gain him. "Civilized? Companions get killed, and instead of trying to find a way to avoid it in the future, we think of visiting tombs of people long gone. Are the dead really that much more interesting than the living?" he spurts.

That came out a little harsh, but he had to let it out.

In reply to Kores Varias (msg # 783):

Grwn sits back, amused by this banter--the banter of men used to disagreeing about most things. The warlock sits back and studies these diametrically opposed men: Dann--a man of might and muscle--as straight-forward as the thrust of a spear, and Kores--a man of mind and magic--as subtle as the twist-and-turn of a serpent.

Grwn sits back, amused--bemused, wondering what Morrie might have to say...

Morrie watched the men speak with somewhat bleary eyes, " Ruins and the sort? Yer needs be looking further afield. The Mountains of Brack hold such places it is said. Or perhaps the old forests?"

" If its barrows yer after there's more further north along the cliff tops about a half days journey along the coast."

Rabbie helps himself to a mug of cider and sits on the earthen floor.  He takes a sip.  A large sip.  "We didnae bother those fae but they came and took Hugh anyway."  He looks over at Morrie without the usual humour in his eyes.  "I donnae like tae think that they're out there, just waiting tae kill the next clansman that wanders past their den."

He takes another sip.  "Dann, I didnae think you wanted to see more barrows."

Dann reacts to what Rabbie says. "He is right. I am pretty sure Hugh did not go out and look for trouble with the fae. When you come to think of it, there might be more going on than we think."

About the clansman's remark about barrows, he mutters: "No, I don't want to see more barrows. I am not sure if I want to see more tombs either. When dwelling too much in the past, people tend to forget to live in the present..."

Morrie nodded solemnly, " You may as well fight against the tide. You'll make as much impact and change as many minds."

" If your wanting to kill them you'll need a few more years yet, it is said only wise eyes can gaze upon them and see something other than shadows."

" I'll toast to your friend though. And should we drink a toast to you other friends? The dark one and the posh one? They're in for some unwinnable battles themselves after their nuptials."

The last sentence from Morrie was able to trigger a smirk on Dann's face. He joins the toast, in a way to acknowledge that there are things against which it is hopeless to fight.

Grwn raises his mug and nods his head, acknowledging the toast in solidarity, then empties the crock in one final draft.

"Aye..." He begins, suppressing a belch and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. "I can attest to that. The Fae took much and more from me. What little they give cannot compare to the debt they ask..." Grwn concludes, in reverie as much as in present.

Kores clutches his cider, deep in thought, oblivious to the others as he tries to work out some complex formulae, questions about interdimensional gates and how to manipulate the flux to alter reality further.  Sometimes he furrows his brow and scowls as he tries to see the pattern in integrating multiple equations...  Unfortunately he doesn't have that high an intelligence to do so....

Whilst simultaneously thinking about scripts he read about Emphidian Automata construction...

Momentarily clutches his cup in alarm before relaxing.....

"Yer man was asking you a question," Grwn says to Kores, gesturing with exaggerated eyes at Rabbie. He leans back and adds to all, "If it's all the same, I'll continue on with your travels, near or far..."
