Morrie looked across at Rabbie, " About time you were spreading your wings, you weren't nesting so you may as well fly away somewhere for a spell."

" So where are you bound for?"

Kores blinks, briefly snapping out of his thoughts.  If he was in the libraries, he would have a thousand paths in his mind and unable to resolve them.  So many things that can be accomplished looking within.

He snaps back to reality for a moment and takes in his current circumstances.

"So...  Have we decided?  Shall we spend time with the dead or the living?"

Grwn listens to the magician, staring into the bottom of his empty mug, wide-eyed with sarcasm. When Kores completes his dissertation, Grwn up-ends the mug to let the last drop fall, then firmly plants the crock upside-down on the table with a ceramic clap.

"Well if it's a choice between the living and the dead," Grwn offers, "I'll take my chances with the living..."

Brenar listen to the exchange. He had not muchto add as it was a field beyond his experience and knowledge. He took a sip occasionaly and toasted the Fallen and the newly married...who were soon to Fall.

"What ever is your choice you can count on my blade." He added as they were wondering where to go. "However, in Glissom and Glissom City, I know a few people who could help us with work. Mostly escort and warfare though. He offered.

Re: ( IC) Lacklaw and surrounds.

Over the next two days.....

Brenar relaxed and made good use of the brewhouse. He quite enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and merry festivities of Yamousous wedding and attracted a number of tentative offers himself. He was gifted a waterskin made from an otters pelt and a bone eating knife from some of the young ladies.

Grwn received a number of gifts from Morrie over the following days; a small piece of sky-stone, a larks skull dyed blue and a piece of greenstone with a hole worn through it. He was asked to help officiate at Baels wedding, a request that sent Father Jeffries into quiet but rather frantic conniptions.

Kores was left to his own devices for the most part though he did have a troubling dream one night where a shadowy pale blue presence prowled about him in the shadows singing in a high-pitched childlike voice an ancient song the words of which floated away from Kores' memory. When he woke in the morning he noted a strange red filament hung from the ceiling. piled neatly beneath it were the bones of a field mouse, still slick with moisture.  He received a number of gifts of warm woolen shawls and the fist sized likeness of a fecund male figure in limestone.  he attended the weddings but did not really participate.

Dann listened to some of Brenars tales and discovered it was likely the two had been part of opposing sides in some past conflicts.  His dour mood lightened somewhat as he enjoyed the two wedding feasts...though Yamousous more than Baels. He was rather surprised to find himself standing as Baels second for his wedding and there was a moment of panic in both his eyes and those of Niave when Bael took his time turning up.  Dann received an oiled iron knife in a seal-skin sheath and a rather lewd wooden carving of an entwined couple that was left in his sleeping skins.

Rabbie was given leave to accompany the others by Baron Hulmer and the old man hugged him warmly in a display of affection that took Rabbie by surprise ( admittedly he had indulged rather heavily at Baels wedding banquet...so it was perhaps the wine hugging more than the man). When news that he was leaving got around there were a number of gifts left for him on his windowsill; a roll of leather containing a number of excellent arrow heads and fletchings, a small pouch of white quartz pebbles and a leather thong on which were strung rings of cuttlefish bone.

A ship was sighted up the coast and news reached Lacklaw that it would make land the following morning.

OOC; Anything you want to do before heading South, do now.  If you have decided to head inland ( you will need feet and you already have those) or North, then that ship will be in a few more days.

Re: ( IC) Lacklaw and surrounds.

In reply to GM (msg # 803):

Grwn thanks Morrie whole-heartedly for the gifts bequeathed upon him. Later, he fashions the trinkets into the pendants of a necklace he wears upon his chest. While crafting the fetish, the warlock speaks the spell 'Perception of Sorcery', to see if there's any glamour or enchantment upon the gifts...

Grwn rolled 12 using 1d20. PSY test for 'Perception of Sorcery'.
OOC: That's a success, with a Psychic Talent score of 15.

The warlock does not expect to find the dwimmer of magic upon these trinkets, but sometimes--especially in remote places--a person will have a strong attachment to an object for reasons beyond their understanding, and the items proves to be a product of sorcery. These supernatural objects seem find their owners, rather than the natural order.

Before leaving, Grwn wishes Bael and his bride final blessings of health, wealth and happiness, with many baerns to warm their home. The warlock remains sensitive to the local customs and folk beliefs (Intelligence 12), while trying not to offend the tenets of the True Faith too greatly. In that spirit, Grwn attempts to smooth things over with Father Jeffries to the best of his ability (Looks 15), not wanting to leave the man of God on bad terms.

When his companions are assembled at some meal, Grwn asks, "So... shall we take ship to Glissom City. There, Kores may find a courier to bring his documents to the library in Ongus, and I'm curious to meet these men Brenar speaks of who may have work for the adventurous sort..."

Dann gives thanks and blessing as appropriate to all those who he will leave behind. At Grwn's proposal, Dann agrees. "Given the fact that close to no clue could be assembled as to how to deal with these Fae people, I am of the thought to go back to the city of Glissom, for better or ill. Despite all the blessings, this place still brought its share of pains."

Re: ( IC) Lacklaw and surrounds.

Rabbie went bright red when he received the hug from Baron Hulmer (this was probably also  partly due to wine) and mumbled some thanks before taking a seat at a bench.  While he hasn't known Bael and Yamousou very long he warmly wishes them the best of luck with their new wives and new leige.

With his future unsure, Rabbie has mixed feelings of excitement, trepidation and sadness to be leaving his friends and family behind.  He is however quietly touched by the gifts and carefully packs them with the rest of his belongings.

He is happy to join the voyage south, having heard many stories of the great city of Glissom and is eager to see the sights for himself.

Re: ( IC) Lacklaw and surrounds.

The Narwhal left Lacklaw on a fine morning with the companions aboard, The entire town fairwelled them from the shore, Yamousou and Bael at the fore.

The Narwhals bow was carved to resemble a dragon's head and the scars on its wood indicated she may have done her share of raiding in the past. Her hull was painted a rich green, with smooth, flowing lines from bow to stern. A single mast extends from the center of the main deck, and holds a single, large, square, grey sail.

Similar to the mercanian and Thulish longships she had room enough for 30 oarsmen if needs be but for trading the captain relied mostly on the sail.

The main deck was quite small, with oar wells taking up at least half the deck area, the ship was well stocked with arrows and bows to drive off any opportunistic raiders. The railing was low compared to the cog they travelled north on and those unused to sea travel were warned to stay away from the edge.

She is relatively featureless as described, with the mainmast coming up from amidships, and two square hatches fore and aft that lead down to the stores. These hatches are kept open except in bad weather to allow light and fresh air into the store area.

The Captain was a truly ancient man known only as FarFar, he seemed to be of Thulandic stock though most of his crew were Erewornian.

..............

The trip south was relatively uneventful but as night came the wind died away and the crew were required to take up the oars or risk drifting into shore.

Around midnight there was a sudden loud splash on the shoreward side about 100m out from the ship..

Heeding the crew's practical advice, Grwn stays well away from the ship rails, finding a safe place near the mast where the warlock will be out of the way. He spends most of his days in meditation, exercising his mind in memory games to recall lengthy incantations. His nights are restless, as the land-lover is not use to the toss-and-turn of sea travel.

Nodding in-and-out of sleep, Grwn is sobered by the loud splash heard near the ship. Not sure if he imagined it, or if it's cause for concern, the warlock calls the nearest crewman on-duty.

Looking for any signs of worry on his face, Grwn asks the sailor, "Did you hear something? Something loud? Something big? Something untoward...?"

The sailor on lookout nodded to Grwn, " Aye, look there."

Grwn and the others coming onto the deck saw a great wash of green light beneath the surface of the sea.

" Theres something there, something big....I've never seen the like...."

Suddenly a huge black shape leapt clear of the water crashing back into the ocean with a sound like a clap of thunder.

" Hval! Hval! Whale!"

The sailor began to chuckle.....then his jaw hung open as the reason for the great marine mammals breach rose from the depths to regard the ship below.

This time the shout that went up woke even Rabbie.

" Sjo-Orm!" "Kraken!" "Jörmungandr!", went up the cries of panic from the crew as a huge green-black form blotted out the moon, the wedge shaped head split open to reveal phosphorescent jaws lined with thousands of needle like fangs. It swayed back and forth on a long thick neck at least the width of one of the ships boats.

Small black eyes almost hidden by its immense jaw regarded them with malice....
