Re: Got a light?

I felt the series REALLY got going about in Grave Peril (book 3) as that's when he opens up the world and lets the reader in on the larger scope of things.

Re: Got a light?

That seems to be the consensus, from what I've been seeing. I'd heard that the first two books were not as good as the later ones, so I was a little hesitant when I picked them up. But the first two books really sucked me in, and made me want to read more. Honestly, the point that really got me excited was the point in Fool Moon when Harry blasted that werewolf through three buildings, then used a Snoopy plushy to bind it from causing anymore harm that night.

Re: Got a light?

I did very much enjoy that myself.

The varied types of werewolves in that book made me (a lover of lycanthropes) very happy... aka werewolf vs hexenwolf vs lycanthrope vs Loup-garou etc

Re: Got a light?

It was pretty impressive, and a lot of research must have gone into that. A lot of franchises stick with only one type of lycanthrope--this one had the stones to go with four different werewolf origins and weave them in to the world, which is tough to do.

Totally forgot about the "wolf-weres"

Now I want to re-read the series ... again ... well for the 4th or 5th time, I stopped counting.

Ah, so I should've read more than the first two?
I liked them, but they weren't that great. Sounds like I'll have to give the others a try, then.

They get better, yes indeed. And I thought they started out pretty good to begin with.

Re: Got a light?

Just checking...y'all know that lycanthropy is a genuine schitzophrenic condition, right? Those people are sad, suffering and on lots of meds, not monsters (pet peeve, sorry). Does the series get a lot of native North American feylife in?

[random] Tesla and his hat have a statue beside Niagra Falls - I don't know why, but it is a rather fine thing.

Re: Got a light?

The book that talked about lycanthropes mentioned the mental condition, actually. But since Harry is a wizard, Harry dealt with the supernatural kind of werewolves.

Not really (or at least, not yet--I'm still fairly early in the series). The Fey that have appeared so far tend more towards the European kinds--Faerie Queens (three for each court--The Queen That Was, The Queen That Is, and The Queen That Is To Come), trolls, sprites, ogres, and so on. Queen Mab is a major figure in the series. If they talk about native faeries, I haven't gotten to that point yet.

My home internet is dead.  I'll post from a computer when I get the chance; my phone won't handle the cut and pasting necessary for a dice roll.

Silly and belated question, those of us in the cult of worms thread, did we bring a lantern or light source?

Only if you have one in your inventory. So most likely, not. You can probably fashion a torch fairly easily.

Re: Got a light?

Liu might well let Reggie go, but I don't know if the extended-family feeling is mutual.

The rest have generally had enough for one night, but might be moved to pile in if Liu's in trouble, so I think it's up to Fei and the PCs...

Fei is willing to retreat, as long as the demon is dead. So I guess it's up to Janet and Reggie to see if they want to push the issue.

Re: Got a light?

Does anyone want to play a group of townsfolk or soldiers on the Greatest Show on Earth thread to help Von Steinhof and Black Jack out? These would be characters who've recovered from their fear enough to grab a weapon and help out.

Von Steinhof, if you want to try to activate the suit's defensive capabilities, you can attempt a Weird Science roll (untrained, naturally). The suit will do str+2d6 fire damage with an unarmed attack when active (+2d8 on a raise) and these things aren't actually immune to flames, despite all appearances.
