Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...
Actually, it threw the picture at you because you insulted it. Living houses actually can alter their inner structure at will, creating dead-end rooms, false doors, and so on. The limitations on this is that it can't create things--the stuff it has to work with are the materials already present in the house. So it couldn't say, create a stone room with no exits--it could make a wooden room and then put a wall behind behind the doors and windows, hold portals closed through Strength, and do things like put the laundry chute behind a false wall. But this is not a thing you fight. Not while inside it, anyway. This is something you either trick, bargain with, or threaten. Only one person has successfully threatened it, and that's because she took the precaution of carrying half a crate of dynamite with her in a shoulder satchel. Or, if you can find the Master of the House (or trick the house into putting you in contact with them), you could ask them to call it off.
Think of the house as a bratty kid that likes to use magnifying glasses on ant hills or pull the wings off of flies suddenly given the power to do that to people.
