Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

The thing about Maddox is that though he's a Hexslinger and he's tied to a bloodline of witches and wizards, he himself is a Doubting Thomas. He knows the supernatural exists, but he still tries to rationalize weird events, following red herrings or ignoring evidence that doesn't fit with his world view. Just telling him about something supernatural isn't enough...he's got to see it in action.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

In reply to Ezekiel Starkweather (msg # 787):

It could...by people who also hadn't seen anything but Jane running out of a fiercely burning building after shots were fired...since as Zek knows, Demon!Hickock never left the place.

Ironically, Jane getting et by the House means the one person that could clear up this mess (and also possesses something Zek might be interested in) will no longer know of any reason to do so.

Ach, my point is it just seems a bit...backwards? -to punish Jane for maybe being involved by leaving her to a horrible death, and to let Hickock walk away without trying to raise the alarm about him, since he outright said he was going to keep pulling shit like this. (and again, bias. Poor Jane...)

[one teapot later] Good gods you guys type fast.

"What? That bloke wasn't supernatural, he was just hopped up on opium. They don't call opium addicts fiends for nothing, see you. And he didn't walk through that wall--you must be remembering it wrong."

Though technically, Jane isn't dead yet. The house likes to play with it's food, after all.

In reply to Tan Xiaohan (msg # 794):

I had no way of saving Jane...and I was not sure weather or not I should. I planned to go back and make sure the house was destoryed, but I can't anymore. Maddox is my only link to her and the house.

Also-I can't stop Hickok without his weakness-or at least I am not sure I can.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

Note that things didn't get sideways with the House until Zek left the room...but he could have defended her, or asked Fairchild to call it off, or told it that Maddox needed her and would be annoyed with it... [offers peace oatcakes] I'm not saying Zek would have/wanted to do any of those things, violent curmudgeon that he is, just that the options existed.

Oh no, but you could make life significantly harder for him by proving Jane wasn't the only one hallucinating him and generally making noise. Going up to his grave in daylight and decapitating him would put a kink in his stride, too.

@Stray - ...aaand then Mister Nate was a zombie.

True, but it had a reason for wanting to kill Nate more quickly than normal...he just wasn't any fun to play with.

Too bad that Leopold isn't in the wooly buffalo right now.
He's delighted when he gets a chance to see the locals engage in their quaint little customs.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

In reply to Tan Xiaohan (msg # 798):

Its easy to have hindsight with prefect clarity.

That house was boasting about killing people, and he tried to get Jane out. It was a monster that Zek could actually stop-and again, saying he could just follow Hickok around and wait for him to go to sleep is a lot easier than actually doing it.

Especially when Zek did not come to kill Hickok in the first place. He came to kill Sweargrengen and his men. Chances are Hickok is a LOT more powerful than Zek. Heck, we all know he is 100 times the gun fighter Zek is.

Yeah, but he did. He's had it pulled on Wilder and Lonefeather since he sat down. And in the heat of the moment...

So him using a gun in melee while pointing it at somebody else might be an issue...not to mention I am not sitting at the table, so the table might get in the way...

Ah. an edit. OK. That's a 7, so you and maddox are going at the same time. Lonefeater beat both of you, though, so he gets his action first.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

Easy there...again, not saying Zek would/should have kept trying, just that one could. In theory. Also that her punishment was a bit disproportionate.

Like Moses mentioned once upon a time, though, sometimes one reads a thing and wonders "what would one of my characters do?" and mine can't escape by walking through walls, so that's the angle I'm coming from.

Hickock was a famous guy: most Deadwooders could point you at his grave for the asking...but if Zek's not interested in stopping him, why not just find out where Swearengen is, murder him and run like hell? Zek could even team up with his rivals, who're bound to want someone apparently unconnected but happy to kill Swearengen for them.

[tries to bat posts down] Hey, Stray, if this goes all-out brawl, how about using Wildcat's handy barfight rules? Those were golden.

In reply to Tan Xiaohan (msg # 811):

I am not angry or anything.

I am pointing out that the actions you are suggesting could be done by someone MUCH better informed than Zek. Especially when it comes to the supernatural.

Also, stray had asked me to hook up with the rest of the pcs, which made sense. Not to mention Zek very nievely belived he was the only harrowed 'alive'. Hickok ' existance proved him wrong,  and if he was more powerful than Zek - not a unreasonable conclusion, he would never get a chance to avenge his loved ones.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

Of course, I WAS expecting you to go to the Woolly Buffallo first, rather than the jailhouse, and things kind of went weird from there. So now the PCs are in a brawl. Good times.
