Killing maddox would not help zek. He can't get dead people to tell the truth. That is why he is brawling.

Yeah, and Maddox is confused and not a cold-blooded killer. Which is a problem for him in this fight, because Harrowed are immune to nonlethal damage.

Are you seriously telling me maddox can cast a deflection spell, keep it running, and yet somehow does not count as supernatural in regard to the memory effect?

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

I was thinking a bit of frustration...feel free to tell me to whist if I'm annoying, I don't mind. Heheh, I reckon my characters just tend towards the stubborn, then. [tangerine - being tastier than a tangent -] If he survives his current situation in one of the stray's other games, there's one guy I'm going to have to write The Ballard of Carl The Wrangler for, I swear. Upgraded NPC, highest stats are in horse wrangling, and he decides to take on a cthlonic snake god. Has been rolling at -12 and still standing. Carl in that situation would have just sat where he was told, and picked up the light source if he felt threatened in the room (his default for anything that doesn't die from a shotgun blast is 'set fire to it').

[thinking] ...Goes To Mass would've started talking to the House to distract it until it was too confused to eat him, Rabbit would summon a giant eagle, Alouette just wouldn't understand what was going on, and Alouette's Little Friend would level the place entirely...kinda apples to oranges with the Arcane Types there, true.

Ah, you'd have got there eventually. Hickock probably is, but why does that preclude just hitting Swearengen and skedaddling before the undead fella can object?

Ach, Maddox, he is such a sweetheart, and so doomed...

Though, to be fair, all of the spells Maddox has don't have any obvious trappings, so he could easily rationalize the effects as just being very lucky...

Oh, and Rabbit: Pierce would've dropped everybody by now. Murphy would've cracked a joke. Then possibly a skull. By accident, of course.

You still have him grabbed. Until he escapes the grab, you've got him. It's Strength or Agility checks to break free, not Fighting or Shooting rolls.

In reply to Moses (msg # 826):

Ummm...no? Zek is short for Ezekial. Is that english? I don't think so...it could be.

Edit-I did not mean a physical way out. I meant a easy emotional way out. He can claim-'It was not me, it was you! And nobody remembers any house or Jane.' Which is annoying-and also means he most likely fed other people to that house because it can erase his memory at any time...

I think there was an actual case of someone bringing a chipped-off piece of their own skull before an Irish judge to complain and getting "oh come on, in [village] we wouldn't mind a thing like that, all in good brawl...next!"

I think that was a very theoretical "if Maddox knew a lot more about the House and shenannigans, he could..." meta-joke, Stray...oh, and 'Ezekiel' is Biblical and thus unadulterated Hebrew.

Yes, but a lot of Christians in that time named their children old testiment names.

As for maddox, is because he had no idea makes it ok for him to do in the frist place?

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

I'd certainly consider "having no idea he was putting anyone in danger" a mitigating factor, yes. As far as he knew, the boarding house was just a house. Creepy, but old houses tend to be creepy. It's not his fault the house is a monster that eats people, any more than it's his fault that he's distantly related to a family of sinister warlocks. he didn't make the house, he didn't know how it worked, and if he had known he certainly would be siding with you to blow it up.

Edit: Also, he's more likely to point to Mr. Sebastian (the guy in the grey suit) than you once he realizes you have a legitimate complaint.

[confused] That...doesn't change the language the name's in...hey, Stray, can we have a Mordechai if ever any real Jews show up? (Solomon's a pretend Jew, right?) Mordechai is a ridiculously cool name. As is Nicodemus.

Actually, I have a Mordechai Whateley waiting in the wings, and Sol Star (the historical one) really was Jewish (why would you call him a pretend Jew?)

Ee! 'cause you kept putting that only the ignorant would call him "the Jew", implying that if they knew the truth, he wouldn't be one...or rather, never was one. Existed in a non-Jewish state, despite being called Solomon. [confused pause] I should go to sleep now.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

Actually, it's because I want them to know there's more to me than just my religion. I'm a businessman. A philanthropist. I helped fund the local orphanage, and I make loans for widows at very reasonable rates. And I've never killed Jesus. Never even met with him. So when they call me "The Jew," as if that were all I was, well, it hurts. So I enlighten them.

Re: Because I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently...

So...there's more than one Jew in Deadwood?

I've never understood the "killed Jesus" thing. I mean, he was Jewish too, and his mother; it just doesn't make any sense. Even blood libel has a coherent idea behind it, and that's pure them-over-the-river-ism gone rabid.

Moses:
Oh, and Rabbit: Pierce would've dropped everybody by now.

"Shoot everyone" seems to be Pierce's default response...I wouldn't want to be late bringing him coffee of a morning. Hank just told the clank to go jump in a lake, by the way.

Carl dealing with the barfight would probably consist of no visible reaction before standing and smashing Zek's head into the table with enough force to stun a normal man, ready for Maddox to get the aggressive party in an armlock...which is where Problems would occur, since Zek is not a normal man.

Alouette would tell Zek to let his consicence be his guide, not the demons in his mind.

'Course, I reckon Nat and/or a spare bartender have shotguns for precisely this sort of occurrence.
