Can someone explain to me what's happening in Chapter 5.1: Deadwood Smoldering ?!

I feel like there's a layer I'm missing.

Folks were chatting, and while they were doing so, Black Jack did some hoodoo. His hoodoo clued him in to something the rest of you were't able to notice. The last thing you will probably want to respond to is the revelation of Hickok being dead, Black Jack and Maddox having a bit of a snit, Bullock revealing that McCall was dead (which you were present for and might have something to say about), and then Black Jack yelling about an ambush.

Also, Janet is in another location, but doing some stuff of her own, so we were exchanging PMs back and forth until the stuff she was doing quietly became something that could be detectable by others (which are on their own thread but might enter the Deadwood Smoldering thread soon).

Thanks for clearing up. I was in the same boat as James but got the benefit of having all the posts happen while i was away from the keyboard.

This is kinda random, but one of the features I requested for RPOL (that was met with nearly universal enthusiasm in the RPOL Development forum when I proposed it) has made the next update for RPOL!



Basically, any character controlled by a GM can be hidden from player view on the Cast List by changing the tag from NPC or Player to Hidden. Personally, I had planned to use it for setting up NPCs in detail (giving them portraits and descriptions) well ahead of time without giving anything away, and eventually unhiding them when it was time for them to be revealed.

Smart!

Oh, and @Han - I'm sure you could sidle left until there was someone in smashing range...just be sure to look confused all the while.

Shouldn't Maddox's counter be outside the bar, having bailed out the window and all?

Stray, updated my post with my initiative draw. Also I must have misread my quickness roll, i thought I got a 3. Returning the red chip to the pot if it is ok with you.

I think a red would be wasted here. Chances are I would fail. Given how Black Jack knows where the guy is-I think he should target him. I will try and free things up for him.

He's currently invisible. Jack pointing him out is what gives you a roll at all.

And that fight just eat almost all my chips ... geez!

Why does the die roller hate you? I was rolling crap for damage until I got to your roll. Seriously, every time I roll damage, the die just says "I'm going to screw Wilder/Charging Bear/Jake Lawrence." Why does it keep happening?

Wish I knew. It is mostly just in your games though, so I'm thinking your GM mojo doesn't like me.

Seems that way. It's kind of frustrating that you seem to get the brunt of all the Bad Stuff, though. I wish my GMing mojo would spread it around more and give you a break.

Maybe you subconsciously think of him as "Charging Bear's Player" and the dice roller suspects all his characters might secretly be Charging Bear...
