Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

The board in Bullock's hand vibrates as he brings it crshing down on the deranged reverend, who staggers back. Blood slides down his head, and he laughs. "Good! Good! Some fight left in you yet!" he crows.

The cultists shoot wildly. Han Lee feels a bullet crease his side, which sends him staggering into the crates. A second shot traces a line of fire across his thigh.

Bullock, meanwhile, is able to avoid the first shot of the babbling cultist near him, but the second one takes him in the shoulder, distracting him enough for the Reverend to catch his breath and renew his assault.

Gusano laughs wildly. "The Princess of Worms saw in you a worthy foe, Bullock!" he laughs as the blade tears into the Marshal's belly. He stabs again and again. "When you are gone, her plans will bear fruit! Her power will spread! All of Deadwod shall despair!"

((OOC: I opt not to soak that, so the Rev keeps the wound. On his action, he attempts to Unshake:

04:04, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 1,0 using d8-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 2,1. Unshake. That's a no. The Reverend gets no action this round.

There are 2 cultists left. One will shoot at Han Lee, the other at Bullock.

04:06, Today: Worm Cultists rolled 4,3 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 4,3. Shooting!

Han Lee is hit!

Damage: 6. Han Lee is Shaken.

Card: AD. They get to go before everyone.

Gusano gets to attempt an Unshake again.

04:11, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 3,10 using d8-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 4,(6+5)11. Unshake. Yeah, that will do it.

04:12, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 8,2 using d10-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 9,3. Fighting! That will hit.

Damage: 7. Bullock is Shaken.

The cultists again take potshots at the two of you, one attack each.

04:15, Today: Worm Cultists rolled 5,5 using d6,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 5,5. Shooting! Both hit.

Damage (Han Lee): 7. Another Shaken, which will result in 1 Wound unless soaked.
Damage (Bullock): 6. Another Shaken, which will result in 1 Wound unless soaked.

Card: 6D))

It doesn't look too good for Seth... out of chips.

10:55, Today: Seth Bullock rolled 3,0 using d6-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 4,1. Recover from Shaken.

10:56, Today: Seth Bullock drew the single card: 4H using the Deadlands system. Initiative.
10:59, Today: Seth Bullock rolled 6,0 using d8-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 7,1. Notice.

Seth staggers back, pressing his hand on his guts, trying to stop them from spilling out.
He looks around for his pistol on the ground somewhere and once he finds it, grim determiniation takes plavce, pushing away grief and panic. He might die, yes. But he'd take a few more of these bastards with him. And if his deputies would survive, then maybe, just maybe, he could get them something to work with.

He keeps staggering, but more deliberately now into the direction of his pistol.
How many bullets are still in there? I'll need just one... just need to make it count.

He yells back at Gusano:
"And who the fuck's the princess? I'd certainly like to meet her and take her to a dance!"

The cultist goes down in a heap, leaving only one more and the demented preacher himself left.

Reverend Gusano laughs. "She is a dark haired witch woman, Bullock. Very pretty, but you must keep your distance. She is dangerous...that is why I sent the murderer McCall to silence her before she got out of hand. He failed, and so she told us we must kill you. You would remember her, I think. Her name is...Janet. Janet Weiss."
It's Wilder's turn.

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

"Perhaps you shall meet her. Perhaps not." The crazed Reverend says as the door behind him cracks open. "But for now...adios!"

And then he runs for the open trap door, leaping down into the darkness below.

The last purple-skinned cultist goggles for a moment. "Oh, shit!" He says, whirling around toward the newly opened door and pulling the trigger...only for a nasty }SNAP!{ to echo in the room as the bolt on his rifle breaks. "Shitshitshitshit!" He says, then runs for the trap door himself. "Hey Reverend...wait fer me!" he shouts as he tumbles into darkness.

((OOC: Cultists go. Reverend attempts to Unshake.

21:04, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 3,4 using d8-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 4,5. Unshake.

The Reverend realizes it's time to get going. He makes a break for the trap door, since Bullock is Shaken and can't attack him, and Han Lee had to move to attack the other cultist.

He moves to the trap door and drops down into the darkness. He's Running, which is a -2 to actions. This is important because he needs to make an Agility check to avoid damage from the fall down into the pit.

21:06, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 1 using 1d6 with rolls of 1. Running die.

21:13, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 3,0 using d8-3,d6-3, rerolling max with rolls of 6,3. Jump! Almost there, so he uses his last remaining red chip for a bonus.

21:14, Today: Reverend Alonzo Gusano rolled 8 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of (6+2)8. Red Chip. And that will be an 11 total, so he passes with flying colors.

With his Wound, that means he moves at 6 for the round (5, +1 for the Run). He's not incredibly hard to catch, but he's now in the total darkness of the cellar.

The last cultist, realizing he's been left behind, takes a potshot at the now busted door and then runs after the preacher. Wilder has Medium Cover from the door frame

21:18, Today: Worm Cultists rolled -1 using 1d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 1. Shooting! That's a natural 1 and his gun is El Cheapo, so it jams and he abandons it.

he leaps down after the Reverend...

21:19, Today: Worm Cultists rolled 2 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 2. Agility.

...and falls flat on his face. he takes damage, but nowhere near enough to actually hurt him. It slows him down, though, as he has to stand from prone and hobble into the darkness.

Card for next round: 7H))

Allright then.

"Go after them! I'll be right with you!" he yells at Han and Wilder, then checks on Jackie Wells. His hearts pulls him to Sol and his wife, but for now he is too afraid as to what he may find there...

Janet rounds the corner, and finds a battleground. Bodies lie everywhere (some still twitching), and the cellar door is wide open. But she can't quite make it to the dark hole leading down...not by walking, at any rate.

((OOC: As we have established elsewhere in the thread, it takes 2 rounds of movement to get fully around the back of the building to reach the stairwell leading down. Janet can get behind the hardware store, but not to the cellar door, with her move. Unless she runs, and she needs to get at least 3 squares of movement from the run die.))
