Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

Finding Lonefeather in the gloom isn't hard. He's unconscious, and right where Wilder dropped him when the worms attacked.

From up above, Bullock can hear some whispers and footsteps. The shaking must have worried the madman upstairs. Bullock can hear something that sounds like a prayer, and then the stomping begins again. There seems to be fewer boots, though...and Bullock hears the creak of boards away from the stomping, presumably heading for the door outside...

Meanwhile, the screaming corpse recovers from Jackie's fusillade. McCall's hands scrabble along the ground, resting on the Spencer rifle the bandit had been carrying just before Jackie shot him the first time. The corpse raises the weapon, while the worms flail about. Jackie is able to fend off the worms with ease, but now the dead man is armed...

((OOC: Undead Jack McCall attempts to unshake.

01:33, Today: Jack McCall rolled 7,5 using d8+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 5,3. Recover from Shaken. That will do it, giving him an action at -2.

He will use his action to pick up the rifle he'd been holding just before Jackie zapped him. He also can make an attack with his tentacles. These give him an extra melee attack each round, but count as off-hands for him, so he has a -2 penalty to attack with them. With the -2 MAP from being Shaken, that's a total of -4 on his attack.

01:36, Today: Jack McCall rolled -1,-3 using d6-4,d6-4, rerolling max with rolls of 3,1. Flail!

Card for next turn: 6C

Meanwhile, Reverend Gusano takes the opportunity to do something which you will find out about later.))

Undead always seem to have a horrible affect on James, his reaction was what came naturally to him ... shot it until it stopped moving then shoot it some more. He looked for Jimmy's gatlin pistol as it was the biggest baddedt thing in he could think of then thought better of it and unloaded his borrowed Peacemaker into the deadman.

My apologies for holding things up

Bullock looks back and forth between McCall and the trap door. Finally, he curses under his breath and fires twice, in quick sucession, at McCall, before turning and running toward the trap door.

Shooting. +1 for doubletap, -2 for multiaction:
10:21, Today: Seth Bullock rolled 8,6 using d10-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 9,(6+1)7. Shooting.

10:22, Today: Seth Bullock rolled 13 using 3d6+3, rerolling max with rolls of 3,3,4. Damage, bonus die, +1 doubletap.
Actually, that's 12 damage. Should've been +2

Running towards trap door:
10:23, Today: Seth Bullock rolled 1 using 1d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1. running.
Soo... movement of 7 this round.

Down to 1 bullet in the gun.

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

Out in the alley, four hooded figures round the corner of the hardware store. They might have been relatively stealthy and blended with the shadows, save that one particularly dark purple cultist pulls up short at the sight of Undead Jack and shrieks.

"Oh, mercy, it's got the babies!"

[Language unknown: "Liithachdi ticrutast!"]  her shorter companion says in what sounds like exhasperated Chinese, already bracing his rifle.

"Forget sneakin' - we have another problem right there!"
The first speaker says, breaking into a run. "Hold on, babies! Mama's comin'!"

[[3, Stove running towards Jack with intent to rumble -> 9 squares]]

The short one looks bemused as she runs straight through his line of fire, and pauses to snap at the other two, gesturing. [Language unknown: "Toiesa omtice, m etstunpewh anyiveday-sonnde focaitil anwi'ouititnd u Dinastill Stahasthiure, a tioareugh ckch i acsti, raten etenwe is thuad enno ecomwh. Onmobe ckdireei'peta!"]

At this, the remaining two figures take off. One stops across the alley from Jackie, considers taking a shot at the wurmnapping deadder then changes his mind and starts waving furiously. "Hey, Deputy Wells! Deputy Wells! Hey! Hiiii!"

[[ Smarts Trick vs Jackie: (ish, Straw really does want to ask her stuff) 2 ! ]]

The other, lighter purple cultist heads in the same direction but shows no sign of stopping, hurling something with purple icing at Doctor Han as he goes. "Blibdiblibdi!"

[[ Agility Trick vs Han Lee: 4 to beat, or get caked by Fawkes!]]

Meanwhile, the shorter cultist takes aim again, careful not to hit the imprisoned wormlings, and squeezes off a shot at the abomination's head.

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

Bullock's shot is true, striking Jack's lurching body through the breast. The matronly cultist is also a good shot, hitting McCall straight in the eyesocket.

But the screaming, flailing dead man only staggers a little at the shots. Flesh boils around the eyesocket, and within moments the eye is once more whole and undamaged.

The screaming dead man aims his purloined rifle at the shorter cultist, and squeezes off a shot. Death doesn't seem to have done anything to the dead man's aim, and the bullet finds it's mark.

The dead thing then lurches towards Jackie, the flailing worms in his chest wrapping themselves around her yet again.

((OOC: That means it's my turn, isn't it? Bullock's pistol Shakes McCall. The Cultist also Shakes McCall, but since McCall has the Hardy power, the extra Shaking doesn't do anything. And since he's not a zombie, he doesn't take any extra damage from the headshot.

He starts his round attempting to Unshake.

00:03, Today: Jack McCall rolled 20,4 using d12+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of (12+6)18,2. unshake. yeah...that will do it.

McCall can attack with his tentacles AND take a separate action in the same round, and now he's got a couple targets.

Jackie is in Melee with him, so he'll use the tentacles against her. He takes a shot at the cultist who attacked him. He has a -2 to attack with the worms (they're offhand for him), but since he's not moving this round, he gets his +2 Marksman bonus to the shot against Stove.

Grapple Jackie: 00:10, Today: Jack McCall rolled 3,2 using d6-2,d6-2, rerolling max with rolls of 5,4. Grapple!

Jackie, roll Fighting to resist the grapple!

Shoot Stove: 00:11, Today: Jack McCall rolled 3,6 using d10+2,d6+2, rerolling max with rolls of 1,4. Shooting! (Marksman).

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

Let's see here...
23:25, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 1,5 using d10,d6, rerolling max with rolls of 1,5. Them's Fightin' Worms!

I'm going to interpret that as he fails.  Even with an Improvised Weapon penalty 4>3.

Deputy Wells, it turns out, was no paper tiger when things got down to the mud and the blood and the beer.  She adroitly blocked and turned on her heel to keep the monster back.  And when it leaned back just a bit, she took one step back.  But it was just to get into a classic isosceles stance.  Less recoil that way.

All right it's only 3 pp to do this, the real limiting fact is on rolling 1s.

I wound up having to chipper this due to a 1

23:37, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 3,4,0,7 using d10-1,d10-1,d10-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 4,5,1,(6+2)8. pump him full of future lead!

23:37, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 4,7,3,2 using d10-1,d10-1,d10-1,d6-1, rerolling max with rolls of 5,8,4,3. mitey whitey.

One hit!

23:39, Today: Jackie Wells rolled 4 using 2d6, rerolling max with rolls of 3,1. shot!  In Melee!

Okay I'll have to switch up tactics, I was trying so hard to make that work!

23:40, Today: Jackie Wells drew the single card: 6S using the Deadlands system. I membered!

Re: Chapter 4.4: Cult of Worms (Deadwood)

The abomination wasn't the only one confused by the sudden pile up on what used to be Jack McCall.  But Wells never was one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Finding herself freed of the creature for a split second, she fell back.  Dropping the loud but mostly ineffectual Gatling pistol in the relatively crude (if artful) gun leather she'd procured for it in this time frame, she reckoned that if it dropped him where he stood once, the Raygun might well do it again.

Taking advantage to Withdraw.  I don't see anything in the rules that says you can't Withdraw and draw a weapon, but that might require an Agility roll at a -2 MAP if that would be awkward enough.  Your call Marshal.

The undead thing lashes out as the cultists dogpile him. The unholy thing begins tossing cultists left and right, its hideous strength prying fingers away and its slippery skin keeping the cultists from getting its limbs locked down.

And the flailing worms aren't hampered by the dogpile at all. They drill through Stove's chest with the same power they used ripping through Jack McCall in the first place.
